If anyone still thought there was any chance whatsoever for Dan Snyder to hold out and keep the name, here's the coup de grâce. The name Redskins is gone. And it will be soon.

BBC

Major US retailers Walmart and Target have dropped American football team Washington Redskins' merchandise from their websites.
Last week, the Washington DC-based team said it would be reviewing its name following demands from sponsors.
It has faced years of pressure over a name seen as offensive to Native Americans.
The decision to review the name comes amid a fresh focus on racism, sparked by worldwide protests.
Walmart said on Twitter that it would be "discontinuing the sale of items that reference the team's name and logo".
Target told CNN in a statement that they were "in the process of removing the items from our assortment".

Since this is Dan Synder we're talking about here, I'm curious to see how he fucks it up.

My question is ... why now? Why now are places like Nike and FedEx taking such a hard stance? While the name of the team holds no value one way or another to me, I wonder if this is to distract from something else. Not sure what, but just feels odd that suddenly now this is massively outrage material.

Think of all the merchandising opportunities that come with a name change. Traditionalists wanting the old stuff before they can't get it. All the woke bunch wanting the new stuff.

Smokey nailed this one....all about the money.

Fedex and Nike don't give a rat's ass about Native Americans. Nike is too busy trying to figure out what slave labor to exploit next.

I INSIST you call them the “Alcoholic Underachievers”.....😂

I also heard that FedEx was going to buy out UPS.
Their new name is “FedUP”! 🤪

As you said, neither FedEx, and Nike don’t give a damn about the nickname. The ONLY reason they, and Target and other stores are jumping on the bandwagon is MONEY! And they think they can endear themselves with the “politically correct” bunch by doing it now. It’s makes them appear oh so thoughtful! When the “bottom line” is all they really cared about in the first place.

Native Americans in Oklahoma would love to make such products, but the $40 to $50 a jersey cost can't compete. That's where trade laws could work to provide paying jobs for Americans.

There must be some legal problems holding up the expected name change. Each day lost = sales lost. Copyright rights may be in play with someone holding onto their claim for a big payday.

As for all the others (and blood in the water) I think it's largely to do with a very large number of high rolling financial investing groups came together on refusing to do business with companies that are supporting the Redskins such as FedEx.

And FedEx owner is a minority owner of the Redskins, and not all the minority others who aren't a Synder are trying to sell their sake in the company, as they're tired of dealing with Dan Synder, or tired of ignoring everything. It's has been strongly suggested that the minority owners have been feeling the pressure and been trying to pressure Synder into change and Synder has mostly been an absentee owner over recent years. Weather that's true or not, I don't know.

Of the people that didn't inherit their team from their parents, he seems like he might be the last guy you want running your brand, considering NFL fandom maps have been showing he's been losing fan territory for over a decade. And I don't think it has anything to do with the name, but how the brand is being run. Hell, even if the owners that inherit their team, he's still quite low (I might have Bengals owner lower).

Mucky Tundra (14h) : No time for talking! Back to work beast!
beast (14h) : You saw only 4,201 of my mocks? 🥺 I think that means you missed more than half of them 😢
dfosterf (18h) : Does anyone know what Lambeau field improvements got put on hold? My guess would be for the 2025 draft
Zero2Cool (20h) : It's like listen, you made 4,201 mocks, no shit.
Zero2Cool (20h) : Cuz during the draft "I had them mocked there!" as if it's amazing.
Zero2Cool (20h) : They're fun to do once in awhile. It's people who think they are "content" that annoy me.
dfosterf (20h) : Against tbd
dfosterf (20h) : Answer to your question is yes, it's a Thursday, will be the Chiefs aga
dfosterf (20h) : Luckily for all concerned, I don't post them. I did one, but that was like 25 mocks ago
Zero2Cool (20h) : NFL 2024 gonna start Sept 5th isn't it???
Zero2Cool (20h) : Ugh... kids these days!
dfosterf (20h) : I'm gonna go do some more mock draft hell instead 🤪
Zero2Cool (20h) : Did we do one of those prediction threads yet for 2024 season?
dfosterf (21h) : In my city, they are playing the nimby game, in order to keep some railroad tracks vs. 2 professional sports teams and a concert venue.
dfosterf (21h) : And/Or a city council, of which I haven't seen a good one in a very long time
dfosterf (21h) : That sounds like a Mayor, not a city.
buckeyepackfan (26-Mar) : Packers halt scheduled 80mil upgrade of stadium until lease agreement talks are restarted
Zero2Cool (26-Mar) : City of Green Bay puts Packers' Lambeau Field lease talks on hold
buckeyepackfan (26-Mar) : Packers 1 of 3 teams to vote no on new kickoff rule.
Zero2Cool (26-Mar) : Packers sign another Kicker
dfosterf (26-Mar) : Lengthy explanation at PFF if you click the link
dfosterf (26-Mar) : Kickoff rules officially changed.ngthy explan
Zero2Cool (26-Mar) : lol
Cheesey (26-Mar) : 2009? No thanks! One open heart surgery is enough!
dfosterf (26-Mar) : Good for you!
Zero2Cool (26-Mar) : Yes. That's the one.
dfosterf (26-Mar) : Is that "Lady Dugan" per chance?
dfosterf (26-Mar) : Crystal?
dfosterf (26-Mar) : Please refresh my memory

Mucky Tundra (26-Mar) : BAH GAWD! THAT'S CHEESEYS MUSIC!
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Gutekunst said early stages of Jordan Love contract being discussed.
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Shouldn't be penalized cuz official screwed up
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Yeah, challenge until you are incorrect twice.
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Fining them is the goal, per the people who made the rule anyway.
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still waiting on the kickoff rule changes. Did hear yesterday that the touchback proposal will now be the 30 yard line, not the 35
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Probably speed of game issues with your proposal
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Hopefully the refs don't get in the habit of throwing flags on this
beast (25-Mar) : I think when it comes to Challenges should get two strikes, so unlimited challenges as long as they keep winning them, but 2 wrong then done
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still subject to the fines etc
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Yes, I should have been more specific. Also, they are now saying it would be a 15 yard penalty. That makes more sense .
beast (25-Mar) : Simply fined in the week to follow
beast (25-Mar) : I agree with one NFL official, it'll probably be like some of the helmets hits, not really called by the refs on the field but simply fined
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Hip drop is not. Super confusing. Referees job is harder
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Swivel hip drop is banned
dfosterf (25-Mar) : The hip drop enforcement will be in the form of fines, etc. Not flags
dfosterf (25-Mar) : A major foul will be enforced on the offense if there are offsetting penalties in a change of possession situation
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Teams will receive a 3rd challenge if 1 was successful. Previously, it took 2
