In the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers could have selected T.J. Watt. Instead of one of the best defenders in the league, Packers wound up with Kevin King.

It will never go away. I'm sure even the front office regrets it.

Didn't like Watt there. Remember at the time, he had just torn up his knee.

Didn't care for King's history either, just saying. King was also a trade nack into the 2nd roubd, iirc.

Where are the articles about other teams missing out on players the Packers picked? There has to be teams upset they didn't take Kenny Clark, Davante Adams, Jaire Alexander ... where those at?

Yeah this type of situation can be brought up in a lot of different cases. Too bad we passed on Adrian Peterson to draft AJ Hawk too.

If the 2019 draft had a redo, does Elgton Jenkins last more than 15 picks?

Or Bakhtiari to the 4th round in his draft?

It happens every year. The draft is not perfect. One of the reasons I laugh at the media experts. They are wrong more than the team's are. Yet you never see them admit it.

They also make the assumption that everything would just shake out the same way with names swapped around like Huber does here: assuming that GB ends up in the NFC title game but better positioned on defense due to more cap to spread around. He also assumes Watt would have fared better vs Tampa but that's overlooking Brady's quick release and the number of balls that he throws away when nothing is available to avoid contact at all costs. If GB drafts Watt, who's playing opposite of him? Does Gutey still sign Z to a massive contract? Does Preston get signed as a cheaper fill in option? Do they draft some mid-tier guys in later rounds instead of Gary? A large part of the success that GB has had in terms of creating pressure and getting to the QB has revolved around rotating the Smith Bros and Gary as well as lining them up all over.

The reason so many are sore about that pick - many (most) fans I know wanted them to draft TJ. It adds to the anger because the returns on King have been that of a 7th round flyer pick. Easy to criticize with hindsight, but even without that - it was obvious in the moment that they took the wrong guy.

All of that said - it is true that things would have been handled differently as far as free agency and future drafts. No telling what roster we might have now. Instead of having a guy like Z or Gary, he might be expected to do it all himself - happens more often than most would think.

It is amazing how often people (media) fail to consider the butterfly effect.

dfosterf (3h) : I think the rest of the league has great respect for our defensive talent. Not so much for our defensive schemes

buckeyepackfan (4h) : He signed with Tampa to play against The Packers, now he retires?

Cheesey (21h) : As ELVIS would say, 'Thank you! Thank you very much!"
dfosterf (21h) : I'm not saying it was technically superior to our former site boss, but it was certainly more user friendly! I knew we hit a home run when we elected you!
Cheesey (21h) : Let's see...how to link a video from a cell phone. First, get a link. I prefer a sausage link. Fry it and eat it, and that should link your video. Did that help?
Cheesey (21h) : It's more like "the not very clear" code!🤪
packerfanwayoutwest (21h) : Did he turn over the nuclear code?
Cheesey (22h) : Well, I guess I have to use my super powers to keep this place running! Let's see...where's the "start" button...
dfosterf (23h) : Alan! Wayne has the destruction key!
dfosterf (23h) : Beast. I wound him up a little too tight. It ain't you, bro. Let's let Cheesey run the show for a little while. This should be good.
dfosterf (23h) : aking out here!! Can't handle it.We don't even have loose women when things go south
dfosterf (23h) : OK no response. We are on our own boys and girl. Alan? What do we do? I'm freaking out here! Wayne! Why aren't you bringing stability up on here!!-?? Don't you people know how to run a website!!?? Fre

dfosterf (4-Oct) : Whoa. found it. apologize for bitching at you.
dfosterf (4-Oct) : What did you do young man?
beast (4-Oct) : Sorry to upset you Kev, I seriously didn't mean to, I just didn't think your two statements follow the same logic...
dfosterf (4-Oct) : I apologize for him too! We love you! Put baby come back on the record player ,(great song) and forgive us for our insurrectionist proclivities!
dfosterf (4-Oct) : Oh, zero, please come back! If it was me, I apologize ! If it was another fellow moron that is too stupid to apologize
dfosterf (4-Oct) : OMG This place sucks so bad in the last three hours since the site owner left. I can't believe I stuck around for the last 14 years. Definitely 4 stars now.
dfosterf (4-Oct) : One last thing, Alan. How the heck do I link video to this site with my cell phone? Thanks in advance for your wisdom!
dfosterf (4-Oct) : We have to be nice to Zero2Cool when he comes back. He did have a lot to do with this place when we used to let him run it, so be nice.
dfosterf (4-Oct) : In fairness.
dfosterf (4-Oct) : It's some bullshit Kev made up to suck us in. You got this. All hail! Cheesey!
Cheesey (4-Oct) : I can handle it! Uh.... what's a "modem"?
dfosterf (4-Oct) : Hey Alan ! What do we do now? Do you got the technical aspects of running this site? The last guy was kind of weak, we hope you can pick it up to modern day standards
dfosterf (4-Oct) : Wayne has an excellent point..We may suck at the whole undermining of Kev thing.
