It is nice that at Arkansas he lined up everywhere from fullback to x & z receiver.

Having another versatile player on the squad looks awesome. I doubt we would actually convert him to FB, but he could probably line up there on occasion.

Perhaps he is the typical draft for the future kind of a guy. Just amazes me that they selected a TE.

I know what you mean, I had to do a double take when I saw TE next to the dudes name.

But Finley does have a mini-history of being injured, and seeing that they are likely to keep 4 TEs again minus Donald Lee, I can see a place for this guy.

I honestly wonder whether this pick was the product of DJ Williams being the BPA by far, or whether its a product of Thompson thinking ahead and covering his behind in case of a worst-case scenario should Finley depart through FA.

Either way, it's funny that the most pressing position I thought we'd need help at (DE) has not had a single player drafted yet. Positions where I thought we were quite stable (WR, RB) have rather been target. I'm not sure if that is coincidence, or rather Thompson being smart and thinking ahead to possible scenarios and making sure he has the worst-case ones covered.

Either way, it's kinds scary thinking about the competition we'll have at some positions.

Woah, 6'2" is pretty short for an NFL TE, isn't it? The good ones all seems to be 6'5" or 6'6".

Yes, its short. It's most likely why he fell, but Keller is only 6-2 himself, and Dallas Clark is only 6-3, and they has proven that shorter TEs can succeed.

Is this guy the possible pass catching fullback that has eluded this team since William Henderson? He's a little short to be a tight end but good lord does he have some hands on him. Rodgers certainly has some weapons now.

Actually, several teams thought Williams was a FB. He's kind of a tweener. He's more athletic than William Henderson and he's a natural pass catcher. I think this put Andrew Quarless on notice. I think Williams will push him. The problem with Williams is figuring out where to play him, but I think they can use him in the flats, especially inside the red zone.

That's okay. They just drafted another TE. 🙂
