Inspired by the drafts
GermanGilbert takes part in every year, I want to invite you all to participate the live mock draft I am hosting at 4:00 p.m. ET sharp today. Each participant will be assigned a team/draft slot by lottery and will serve as the manager for that team. If we don’t get 32 people to sign up, any extra picks will be randomly assigned to participants.
The draft will be conducted in a moderated chat room I set up especially for this purpose. It will be hosted right on my server, so it should not be blocked at your respective places of employment. Managers will announce their picks in the chat room, as well as field questions and comments posed by observers. Questions will be screened by a moderator.
Managers will get five (5) minutes per pick. If a manager fails to submit his pick before time expires, the round becomes a free-for-all and whoever submits their pick first wins. At that point, the round will continue with the next pick as scheduled.
All trades will be negotiated behind the scenes in another chat room I have set up. This chat room has private messaging capabilities, so managers will be able to negotiate without being overheard.
Anyone may observe the draft in real time and comment or submit questions to the moderator.
Total time for the Round 1 will be approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes. If there is interest in continuing past Round 1, we will naturally remain for the fun. Due to work and other obligations, however, not all managers may have enough free time to be be present for the entire draft. Therefore, draft order will be announced approximately one hour before the event kicks off (i.e., at 3:00 p.m. ET) to give drafters a chance to plan accordingly. Unfortunately, regardless of a drafter’s reasons for absence at his appointed time, the draft will simply go on. The drafter will forfeit his slot and be forced to pick later in the draft —
à la Mike Vice's infamous Vikings. Participants may also appoint a proxy to pick for them.
