Think about this for a second. What's this say about the rule when they cannot agree?!?

The NFL's former officiating chiefs don't agree with the direction the league is headed with its new definition of roughing the passer. A league source confirmed that Clay Matthews hit on Kirk Cousins late in Sunday's Green Bay-Minnesota game was correctly called. In fact, the league's current head of officiating, Al Riveron, will share that [more]

  • He landed mainly using his left arm to take the weight; not letting his weight go into the QB
He didnt drive him hard but just enough so he could sack the qb
I dont know how someone is going to get sacks if you cant tackle the guy unless its like rodgers where he is hobbled or there are 2-3 guys coming at once[/list]

How popular can any sport become when the league officials, players, media and fans don't know what the rules really are?

What's a catch, etal is going to erode the fan base. Younger people are not going to vest their time and emotions into a roulette wheel of every changing rules that are interpreted differently by every ref.

I feel the same will happen with NFL after Aaron Rodgers retires and the Packers return to the 70's. I'll still watch and support, of course, but the personal time investment outside of the 3 hours on Sunday's ... nope.

I agree. I understand protecting guys from VICIOUS hits. But the one Matthews made is ROUGHING?!?!
    Come on.....GET REAL!
He did everything but gently lay Cousins down and give him a kiss on the cheek!
This is getting to the point where you wonder why should we watch anymore.
The NFL just removed any doubt that it will be HONEST when it comes to backing up the refs. Anyone with even half a brain could see it wasn’t roughing in any way.

Baseball has been screwing up their product too. In the attempt to squeeze every nickle they can get they are all putting out a product that is rather unenjoyable.

Pretty soon we will hear: “penalty on the defense.....the linebacker came within 5 yards of the quarterback without saying “captain may I?”. That results in a 15 yard penalty, and the linebacker is disqualified.”
