“This is the fastest I've been in the last four or five years,” the Chicago Bears' new tight end said.

No one holds a gun to their head and forces them to play in the NFL. I fully understand their bodies take an absolute pounding. Ignore the concussion issue, players often face debilitating injuries when they are older. They do it on their own accord. They do it for the love of the game, their families and the money. Insane amounts of money. Everyone goes through things that are difficult. Almost nobody else gets paid like professional athletes do.

So....this is “the fastest” Graham has been for the last four or five years?
I guess that means he was “half-fast” when he was here.

He certainly sucked for us. He will probably ball out for Chicago.

Re T.J. Lang't tweet, here is the Florio Article:

Jimmy Graham says he can still run, but will the Bears want him to?
Posted by Mike Florio on March 27, 2020, 8:55 PM EDT

Tight end Jimmy Graham recently said that the Bears have the right plan for him, but Graham didn’t say what it is.

So what is it?

Graham added in his introductory conference call that he can still run. Many would say he can’t run like he used to. The reality is that he can still catch, and that he has the body to create space when trying to get the ball in short-yardage or red-zone situations.

That’s exactly what the Bears should be doing with Graham: Letting him box out defensive backs in tight spaces and go get the football.

Remember Week One against the Bears at Soldier Field? Green Bay’s only touchdown came when quarterback Aaron Rodgers tossed the ball in Graham’s general direction and grabbed it out of the air.

At this point in his career, that’s his biggest strength. Not running. And definitely not blocking.

It never was blocking, even though there are still some meatheads out there who refuse to understand that the basketball-player-turned-tight-end’s game was never about blocking. His game was and is about running routes and catching passes, period. To chastise him for not blocking is no different than shaming an offensive lineman for not being able to throw a 30-yard spiral.

So Graham can still play an important role for the Bears, as long as that role is specifically defined. If the Bears do that, they’ll be happy with Graham’s performance.

Thanks T.J. Lang. You just played your man card...and called Jimmy's. And I guess T.J. and I are both meatheads....we expect tight ends, especially those making 10mm a year to block...how Neanderthal is that?!?!? Florio shows his lack of basic football understanding...blocking is both a prerequisite of that position.

Herein lies the major problem with Graham. He thinks the function of blocking is beneath him. "Just throw me the ball" A prima donna....not a team guy. This is one of reasons I love Marcedes Lewis....he blocks and doesn't have a prima donna attitude.

The primary function of a TE is to block and if you don't understand that you probably should not play the position, coach, opine, or write about football.

The Superbowl featured the two best tight ends in football....excellent receivers AND GREAT BLOCKERS.
