With Randall Cobb out, the former sixth round pick may finally get the opportunity he has waited for since 2018. Let’s make one thing clear: losing Randall Cobb is a gut punch for Green Bay Packers  fans.
His return to Green Bay was not just a great story during the summer. He’s been a contributor throughout the 2021 season and reliable third down target for quarterback and best bud Aaron Rodgers.
As painful as Thursday’s news was to hear, the season goes on and the Green Bay Packers have a Super Bowl  to win. Therefore someone will have to step up and step into the spotlight in Cobb’s absence.
Enter Equanimeous St. Brown.
For St. Brown, this moment has been four years in the making. When he was drafted in the sixth round of the 2018 draft, not a whole lot was expected from him. However, at the time some considered him more “NFL ready” than Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who was drafted one round ahead of him. St. Brown’ skills were more balanced while Valdes-Scantling’ route running and ball skills needed more polish when they were both rookies.
As the 2018 season progressed, St. Brown found himself taking a back seat to Valdes-Scantling (MVS caught 38 passes versus St. Brown’s 21) and would end up missing the season finale with a concussion.
That injury would be a harbinger of things to come, unfortunately. St. Brown would miss the entire 2019 season after suffering a severe ankle sprain in the preseason, starting a run of bad injury luck. He would also end up on injured reserve during the 2020 season when a sprained knee cost him three games thanks to the new IR rules.
Entering 2021, St. Brown was squarely on the roster bubble. He had the support of quarterback Aaron Rodgers who had praised St. Brown before the previous season, but the Packers had plenty of talent at wide receiver, especially with Cobb arriving just as camp began.
St. Brown ended up being the odd man out, but he was able to be brought back to the Packers’ practice squad. He has been moved to the active roster multiple times thanks to COVID and injury issues before earning a full-time promotion back onto the 53, but with Cobb now out for multiple games, St. Brown is finally going to get a chance to showcase what he can do.
Even before the Cobb injury, St. Brown was showing signs he could be a contributor. During the Week 11 loss to the Minnesota Vikings , St. Brown made a beautiful play on an end-around and also made a big catch and run that got the Packers into scoring range while trailing 23-17.
Those two plays rewarded the faith Rodgers had in St. Brown and serve as a sign of bigger things to come for the former Notre Dame  star in Cobb’ absence.
“I’m really proud of EQ,” Rodgers said after the Vikings game. The quarterback said he reached out to the receiver after his initial release and told him he felt St. Brown would get his chance to come off the practice squad once the season started.
Rodgers proved himself prophetic and now St. Brown has the biggest opportunity of his career. So how can he cash in on it?
He’s not going to be the field stretcher that Valdes-Scantling is nor can he be Davante Adams (to be fair, no one can), but he can be the slot receiver Cobb was and he could even be used in the backfield like he was against Minnesota. That’s one of the perks of Matt LaFleur’s offense: anyone can be lined up anywhere at any given time.
The thing to remember about St. Brown going forward is that he doesn’t have to be Cobb. He and Allen Lazard can replace the veteran’s overall production. St. Brown just has to be dependable, consistent, and make plays when Rodgers throws his way. That he has seemingly earned the (sometimes) difficult to please quarterback’s trust with limited opportunities is telling, and that trust could help ease the pain of Cobb’s loss.
Like the other receivers, St. Brown isn’t under contract for 2022 but unlike Adams and MVS, he isn’t playing for a huge extension. He is playing to prove he can be a contributor and worthy of a spot on the roster next year and perhaps beyond.
After injuries initially derailed the start of his career, everything is now in front of St. Brown. He will now be called upon in ways he hasn’t been before so it will be interesting to see how he rewards those who kept faith in him these past four years.
The dawning of the age of Equanimeous many finally be upon us and the sun is rising at the perfect time for the Packers.

I'm sure EQ's opportunities will increase with Cobb out. That said I am not convinced it will be a good thing. Over his career his reception rate is only 58%. More chances doesn't mean more receptions. And if he is the third down go to guy that means a few drives die on the tips of his fingers. I look or Aaron Rodgers to spread the Cobb targets around. Lazard catches 67% of the passes that come his way. EQ will get a few more but not that much.

I think LaFleur said with Cobb out, Adams, St. Brown and Amari Rodgers will get more slot snaps.

I'm thinking it'll mostly be Adams with Lazard and MVS on the outside. But rotate the other guys in, or when something fits them well. Like St. Brown on that quick hitter slant or Rodgers in the sweep stuff.

Also we have Deguara already filling in for Tonyan's receiving TE stuff which probably includes some slot stuff.

CanPackFan (53m) : Will there ever be a time when Rodgers' whacko views will not reflect on GB? He is the past, thank god.
Zero2Cool (18h) : Jan 4th gonna be rough with that start time lol
Zero2Cool (18h) : Packers schedule listed. Boom.
buckeyepackfan (15-May) : Let the leaks begin. Colts @ Packers week 2, Vikings @ Packers week 4
Zero2Cool (14-May) : WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling to Bills
Zero2Cool (14-May) : Jets and Aaron Rodgers open up on Monday Night Football,

Zero2Cool (13-May) : I know we moved on. That tidbit just makes me a touch happier.
Zero2Cool (13-May) : Sources spoke of many, many times last summer where Hackett called a play, then Rodgers changed it completely at the line
Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : And the OL protections seem to be good.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : I really don't know lol. I don't see him getting blown up.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : -3 buwahhhahaaha
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : 4th
Zero2Cool (9-May) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : @BookOfEli_NFL Packers pass game coordinator, Jason Vrable said that Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks shared a placed in Florida while train
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : For now...
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers go about evaluating their "best five," OL coach Luke Butkus makes on thing clear: "Josh Myers is our center."
beast (8-May) : Though I'm a bit surprised letting go of CBs, I thought we needed more not less
beast (8-May) : It was confusing with two DB Anthony Johnson anyways
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers actually had Ray Lewis on the phone.
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers wanted to draft Ray Lewis. Ravens stole him.
Martha Careful (6-May) : Happy 93rd Birthday to the Greatest Baseball Player of All-Time...Willie Mays
Zero2Cool (6-May) : Walter Stanely's son
buckeyepackfan (6-May) : and released CB Anthony Johnson and DL Deandre Johnson and waived/injured WR Thyrick Pitts (thigh-rick).
buckeyepackfan (6-May) : The Green Bay Packers have signed WR Julian Hicks, OL Lecitus Smith (luh-SEET-us) and WR Dimitri Stanley
Zero2Cool (6-May) : Petty, but it's annoying me how the NFL is making the schedule release an event.
Mucky Tundra (4-May) : @mattschneidman Matt LaFleur on how he tore his pec: “Got in a fight with the bench press. I lost.”
Zero2Cool (3-May) : Jordan Love CAN sign an extension as of today. Might tak weeks/months though

Zero2Cool (2-May) : Giannis Antetokounmpo is listed as out for tonight's game.
dfosterf (2-May) : Surprisingly low initially is my guess cap wise, but gonna pay the piper after that
dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
