Ravens pick Suggs over Lewis, Scott for franchise tag

Posted: February 18th, 2009 | Adam Schefter |

As expected, the Ravens slapped their franchise tag on linebacker Terrell Suggs, guaranteeing the six-year veteran a $10.2 million salary in 2009.

Now, fellow LBs Ray Lewis and Bart Scott are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents, free to test the market.

Now Suggs is franchised. Nnamdi isn't though. Nnamdi's contract would be FUCKING huge if the Raiders tagged him again. That's why they didn't do it.

Well Al Davis isn't afraid of paying huge contracts. How much did he pay for Javon Walker again?

Also didn't he end up paying that Cb Hall something like 10 million pre-game because of the huge signing bonus and they cut Hall after only 8 games.

Money doesn't seem to be anything to Davis.

Going into the off-season, one of the Raiders' biggest quandaries was choosing between the free agents.

"We've got a tough problem with Nnamdi and Shane, a tough problem," owner Al Davis said Feb. 4 at the news conference to introduce Tom Cable as coach. "They're both unsigned and you have only one franchise designation."

Shane Lechler having been signed to a four-year contract Wednesday

Sounds like Davis knows he's going to use the franchise tag on somebody.

The Raiders have resigned CB Nnamdi Asomugha and the Panthers have resigned OT Jordan Gross and tagged DE Julius Peppers

Hopefully we can get Jennings locked up and depending on how well Kampman does next year as an OLB will determine if he's worth tagging assuming we couldn't strike a long-term deal with him.
