This would probably only be used a few times a game, but it sounds cool. They did this a little last year when jenkins would be standing up.

I hope it works out better than the Kampman experiment. Dom Capers is who he is for a reason. I'm excited to see this as well.

They didn't have much of a choice but to play Kampman, It's too bad things worked out this way, Kamp was one of my favorite players; a cosumate professional and good person. Too bad we couldn't get better value for him. Wish him nothing but the best, except, of course, against the Pack. Hope Jones makes huge strides and stays healthy this year.

The second I see a 305 LB in there, I immediately change it from a run play to a pass play and exploit the area he covers with a quick pass to my slot receiver or a fast TE.

I'm assuming this is for run downs only.

That's a match-up you're always looking for in a 3-4, though. If Jenkins plays standing up, it'll be in an elephant position. Close up to the line, not dropping back too often. Pretty much exactly the same as a 4-3, but standing up and dropping back on 5% of the plays, rather than 2% or so.

Just because he's standing up doesn't mean he needs to drop in coverage. Who cares if the QB knows if he's going to be rushing the passer. Good. No different then knowing that a 4-3 DE will be rushing most of the time. Let Jenkins draw some attention and maybe drop a DT or Jones back in a short zone to confuse the QB.

I like the idea . . . in certain situations.

Adding new wrinkles to a defense is always helpful.

That being said, gimmicks can only get you so far, (see Psycho package last year).

You have to have a solid D and great depth to succeed, which I feel like we have. Should be a great year.

The way Jenkins covers screens from the DE position, I don't have any fears of him being exploited in coverage. Not any more than I feared Kampman being exploited, and he wasn't. First he was only in coverage a few times a game. Second, he had the lowest completions against percentage of the LBs.

I would only expect to see Jenkins standing up a couple times a game. I would also expect him to rush the majority of times. I would be surprised if he was in coverage. I hope the opposing QBs are too.
I want to go out like my Grandpa did. Peacefully in his sleep.

ya gimmicks can only get you so far but we had sanders so predictable 4-3 that a child could figure out when we were blitzing ...

and speaking of gimmicks ... you ever watch the jets D? ... they were #1 for a reason and their style often looked 'gimmicky'.
