I don't want him to go on the PUP. That way he can't practice with the team even if he's healthy by week 3. Just let him have a roster spot and bring him in when he's healthy.

Can you clarify this just a little for me? Can he at least be at practice and meetings and such, but just not walkthroughs or live practices? If this is the case, he would still know the game plans and such as well as his own private conditioning. The mental aspect of his game should be sharp.

I would agree though that it would be best just to give him a roster spot and have him practice in a limited fashion until he is totally ready, even if that's week 10.

I'd rather the Packers kept Harris out a couple weeks too long than try to rush him back a couple weeks too early.

Does this mean that he's not allowed to even stand on the sidelines or be in the building? I can understand the no live practice part, but if he's not even allowed to be there I found find that odd.

A player on the PUP list can rehabilitate and participate in team meetings. He cannot participate on the field in practice.

Does it really hurt us if Harris doesn't practice with the team for the first 6 weeks or so?

I highly doubt it. Harris is someone who can miss a bunch of games and come right in. He knows our D. He knows what he needs to do. Heck, he's got more experience than pretty much anyone else on this team if I'm not mistaken.

Put Harris on PUP. Give some kid a shot to prove himself. We might end up with an unknown gem and we might find someone else who stinks to cut.

This is our SB run year. That 53rd man could matter.

The other side of the coin is to think who Harris would keep off the roster should he be placed on the 53 and not on the PUP list. In all likelihood this would be Jarrett Bush, who is quite frankly an awful corner (and a former core special teams player.)

The Packers have good depth at corner, and could easily survive Harris' inactivity. Bush isn't likely to see the field before Underwood, Lee or Shields at CB, and even in a pinch the Packers have two former cornerbacks playing safety in Will Blackmon and Derrick Martin (who are both likely better than Bush at corner).

I wholeheatedly agree that Harris should not be rushed back. But with seven game day inactives every week, he could easily be stowed away on the 53, whilst going through walkthroughs in practice for the first few weeks.

I for one am not counting on Harris for anything this year or ever again for that matter. Not many 35 year corners around the league, especially ones with good knees. He always was slow, now I bet that is worse. I look at this the same way I do Bustin, anything we get from Al is gravy.

Go ahead and roast my chestnuts for this, I'd rather live in the now and reality than to live in nostalgia. I commend him for his efforts in the off season, he busted his ass to get this close.

It won't be Bush. It would be someone like Sam Shields or that real fast WR guy who returned a punt for a TD. What if one of them turns out to be a stud for another team because we cut them? Of course, they could be duds too but just saying hypothetically.

It is reasonable to PUP Harris. That removes the temptation to trot him out there when he is 92% ready.
Even when his knee feels better it's going to take another couple of weeks to get back up to speed. My guess is that the fastest he could be ready is week 5. MHO
