DYSTER'S HEAD NOT IN THE GAME AS HE HANDS GOVERNOR A JERSEY

ANALYSIS By Frank Parlato Jr.

Niagara Falls Mayor Paul A. Dyster rather abruptly had to leave the Memorial Medical Center press conference to promote cardiac health, held Friday at City Hall in order to attend Gov. Andrew Cuomo's press event at Daemen College in Amherst.

Many local politicians were in attendance, including State Sens. George Maziarz and Mark Grisanti, and Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown.

Dyster summed up the event for the Niagara Gazette: "Gov. Cuomo's agenda for New York is ambitious and desperately needed. Our great state is suffering from years of overspending and overtaxing."

In a spirit akin to prophecy he added, "Today we change course and take the difficult but vital steps that are necessary to rebuild a strong New York."

Questions naturally arise.

Did we really change course? Who is "we"? And how the hell, really, does he know?

Dyster certainly isn't part of his own proclaimed solution.

He talks about the "suffering from years of overspending and overtaxing," but he raised taxes more than any mayor in the past 20 years, including a whopping increase this year of nearly 3 percent.

And Dyster has overspent in proportions that dwarf anything his predecessors have done, splurging on everything from hiring out-of-town nobodies as top aides at $100,000 a year, to approving millions in change orders for the courthouse without getting bids, to giving literally millions in studies, grants and other work to campaign donors.

His overspending is the sole reason taxes were raised this year.

No mayor ever overspent so freely as Dyster.

The mayor did get about 15 seconds with the new governor, who was here to talk about budget cuts and serious state and local business.

What did Dyster do with his opportunity?

He handed the governor a Green Bay Packers jersey with Niagara Falls native James Starks' name on it.

Dyster's son apparently played on the Niagara Falls high school football team with Starks, and naturally Dyster wants the rest of the world to be as happy as he is. But his clownish behavior lifts the terms "jock sniffer" to new heights.

Dyster could have used the opportunity to discuss any number of serious issues: the casino, the economy, demolition needs, tourism, power allocation, the airport, our downtown, lack of jobs, public safety. He could have prepared a memo for the governor detailing how he envisions the state and city working together. In other words -- a plan.

Instead, the mayor gave our new governor the football jersey of a Wisconsin professional football player, whose team is in the Super Bowl in Dallas, Texas.

To say this guy is out of touch with what the city needs and what the residents are looking for in a political leader is a major understatement.

FACEBOOK FOLLIES

Many people have been critical of Mayor Paul Dyster's State of the City address, in which he seemingly took credit for almost anything that ever happened here.

He may have been misunderstood.

For two weeks leading up to the event, Dyster himself promoted the speech on a special State of the City Facebook webpage as something monumental and life-changing for his audience.

He may actually believe his own exaggerations. One might ungenerously call him delusional.

Interestingly, defeated assemblywoman Francine Del Monte still has her "Assemblywoman Del Monte" Facebook page up, along with two other active pages, leading some to speculate that she intends to run again.

On her Facebook page, Del Monte compliments President Barack Obama and Gov. Andrew Cuomo on their respective speeches but says nothing about Dyster's address. That in itself demonstrates how much the relationship has cooled.

The foolish mayor was on his own Facebook page Wednesday morning confiding he needed sleep, since he had been awake a very long time keeping watch on the weather for city residents.

In the wee hours, our meteorological mayor drowsily signed off, "Going to try to get a little shuteye."

Mucky Tundra (15h) : I may end up eating those words but I think they need a lot more talent then their 4 picks can provide

Mucky Tundra (15h) : The Chicago Bears are very open for business at 9 and telling teams they are ready to move for the right price, per source

dfosterf (24-Apr) : Mucky- The only thing fun to watch would be me flipping the f out if Gute goes up to 13 and grabs Brock Bowers, lol

beast (21-Apr) : I haven't looked into the QBs, but some have suggested Maye has some of the most extremely inconsistent tape they've seen
beast (21-Apr) : Well it also sounds like Patriots are listening to trade offers, not that seriously considering any, but listening means they aren't locked
Zero2Cool (21-Apr) : Maye needs to be AFC
Mucky Tundra (21-Apr) : Not liking the idea of the Vikings getting Maye
Zero2Cool (21-Apr) : Vikings HC joked that he may or may not have sent flowers to Bob Kraft. That's where rumor came from.
beast (21-Apr) : Can't tell if this is real or BS, but some rumors about a possible Patriots/Vikings trade for #3 overall
dfosterf (21-Apr) : One playbook to my knowledge. I was shooting for facetious.
beast (20-Apr) : I'm not sure they have different playbooks for different OL positions, and Dillard run blocking is supposedly worse than his pass blocking..
dfosterf (19-Apr) : The only problem with that is he isn't a guard either.
dfosterf (19-Apr) : Put him at right guard. That is where he will be coached. That is where he will compete. He is not even allowed to look at the LT playbook.
dfosterf (18-Apr) : Kidding aside, I hope the best for him.
dfosterf (18-Apr) : Went to a Titans board. One comment there. Not very long. I quote: "LOL" They don't sound overly upset about our aquisition.
beast (18-Apr) : OT Dillard has been absolutely horrible... like OG Newman levels
dfosterf (18-Apr) : Suit him up and have him stand in front of the big board as a draft day cautionary tale.
