At this time I am happy with Benson getting the overwhelming share of carries. That said if Starks and Green got 1-2 carries a game and Saine was inactive that would be fine. After 3-4 weeks if any of them averaged less than 4 yards a carry their playing time should be cut and those few carries given to whoever was making the most of their time on the field.

The burst is finally back for James Starks, but two months too late to seize the starting job in the Packers’ backfield.

Following Ryan Grant’s offseason departure, the door was open for the third-year running back to seize the starting running back role until he suffered a turf toe injury on the second offensive play of the team’s preseason opener against San Diego on Aug. 9.

Starks continued playing and didn’t feel the full extent of the injury until the plane ride home. Three days later, the Packers signed veteran Cedric Benson, who’s developed into the team’s every-down back and averaging 16 carries per game through the first four games.

....

“I’m anxious just to get another carry out there and play and see what I can do,” Starks said. “See how it feels to get contact with another team, break some tackles, help my team win a little bit, but at the same time, I’m getting better. I’m getting better with everything and helping them get better too. That’s my job, I have to take pride in that, and do what I can to make this team better as a whole.”

Nice to have some depth at the position.

Maybe Green and Starks can learn from the veteran. For instance, how to hit the hole.

No Starks. Stay on the bench for at least one more week. I'm starting Benson this week.

Nothing personal Starks. Just fantasy.

Glad he's healthy again, but we need to keep riding Benson as long as he's healthy and putting up decent number even if his YPA is just average at best. If Benson gets nicked up, Starks will get plenty of opportunities.

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

If we do run CB's wheels off, we got Starks & Green. Starks really stepped up in the post season in 2010.

Benson is the best pick up the Packers have had in years. He is solid...hopefully he stays out of personal problems as he's had elsewhere. Maybe he's grown up.

dfosterf (19-Apr) : The only problem with that is he isn't a guard either.
dfosterf (19-Apr) : Put him at right guard. That is where he will be coached. That is where he will compete. He is not even allowed to look at the LT playbook.
dfosterf (18-Apr) : Kidding aside, I hope the best for him.
dfosterf (18-Apr) : Went to a Titans board. One comment there. Not very long. I quote: "LOL" They don't sound overly upset about our aquisition.
