With the parity that exists in the NFL, we have reached a point unlike any that I can remember...there seem to be very few teams with NO chance to win the Super Bowl. Some teams are probably less likely, like Detroit, but I would say there aren't many who are just so bad that they are just out of the argument:

Jacksonville has no QB and a bad defense
Buffalo has no O-Line and a bad defense
The Jets have no QB and no playmakers, and one RB with a history of injuries, and no pass rush
Cleveland has no QB, lacks playmakers and has a suspect defense
Oakland has nothing

Beyond these, I think every team in the league has at least a sliver of hope, and that makes for some great football. I am aching for September to arrive!

Yeah, but it seems like it's pretty much always been that way. Some luck in a draft or two, maybe some players finally getting it right, maybe new coaching, and nobody you mentioned are all that hopeless. None of them are as bad, I think, as Seattle just a couple of years ago.

The best example I can think of is Lombardi taking over the Packers. The Jimmy Johnson Cowboys in the early 90s also went from worst to best in a real short time. I'm sure there were a lot of others along the way also.

Even with AP running wild I can not fathom the vickies being able to win 3 straight playoff games. (They would have to go in as a wild card team.) Defenses would focus on him and shut him down.

KC seems to still be in disarray.

Are the eagles any better than they were a year ago? If so are the good enough to be a .500 team? No.

AZ too is undergoing a remodeling project. They can't make it to the SB if they can't make it to the playoffs. I can not see them winning the West so they have to come in as a wild card at best. Ain't going to happen. SF or Seattle may stumble but not both. Every single other team that is in line for a WC slot falling behind AZ is not going to happen either.

there are 4 more for you that have no chance at all to make it to the SB.

I think Buffalo's defense might be pretty good this season. But their inconsistent offense will probably bring them down.

Personally, I think the Bills might surprise a few people this season.. they have firepower on offense.. it all depends on how quickly EJ Manuel can start to perform. Spiller can flat out carry that offense for a while.. and they have talent at the wides and TE. Manuel and how well their line can pass block.

I would add the Titans to this list though.. a team short at talent across the board.

In modern times of course it's still easy to turn around a franchise...part of why Lombardi was so special is that he did it without turning over the roster. When I was a kid in the early 70s, Dallas, Washington, Minnesota, Los Angeles and for a couple yers St. Louis had a shot at it in the NFC and no one else did. Year in, year our, most of the conference sucked. So too over the last 30 years or so even with free agency...at least going into a given year.

What I am saying is that even though quick turnarounds are possible (and do happen) I just don't recall any year where there are so few really awful teams.

I know what you are saying and I certainly remember those years.

Just wanted to add a few more teams to the conversation.

The Vikes won 10 games last year, and despite their secondary getting worse, and still having a bad QB I think they are a better team than last year.

The Eagles are a huge question mark but they DO have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball and a coach whose system no one knows yet

KC's biggest problem was turning the ball over...they have a lot of talent and they have a competent coach.

AZ had a good defense last year, has improved their O-Line, RB and QB

While 3 of the 4 I would put in the really slim chance category, it isn't entirely out of the question, as all of them have at least SOMETHING going for them.

Hoss I understand what you are saying but you are confusing regular season wins vs playoff wins. None of these teams are likely to win their division. Even if they do they most likely won't get a bye therefore they will have to win 3 times, some or all of the games on the road during the playoffs. It just won't happen. They are not that good. Even Soda as I said AP will be contained by someone in those 3 games.

buckeyepackfan (24-Feb) : Packers receive 4 comp picks for 2018. 4th, 2-5ths, 6th
Smokey (23-Feb) : Peters to the Rams
Smokey (23-Feb) : and another player is lost to another team. Deja Vu again !
Nonstopdrivel (22-Feb) : should have done*

TheKanataThrilla (21-Feb) : I guess I should have did a refresh when I walked away from the computer.
TheKanataThrilla (21-Feb) : Peters is 25 with one year left on his contract at just over $3M
Zero2Cool (21-Feb) : Mel Kiper sticks with Marcus Davenport to GB in 2nd mock
Zero2Cool (21-Feb) : As for Marcus Peters, how old is he an what's his contract years left?
Zero2Cool (21-Feb) : Packers got tired of Sitton's antics.
Zero2Cool (21-Feb) : Sitton was released not because of play or salary, but personality. He will not be re-signed.
TheKanataThrilla (21-Feb) : If we are planning on possibly cutting Cobb I can see the 2nd round pick. A second round pick for Peters is a pretty good deal.
Smokey (21-Feb) : I'd offer Cobb + a 3rd round pick + a 6th round pick in 2019 for the CB Peters from KC.
TheKanataThrilla (21-Feb) : I guess that is a highter round pick
TheKanataThrilla (21-Feb) : Suggestion was a 2nd round pick. I would want a lower round pick. I think that is too much. A 3rd or 4th seems about right.
Smokey (21-Feb) : Cobb and WHAT PICK ?
TheKanataThrilla (21-Feb) : A suggestion I saw was a trade of Cobb and a Pick for Peters. I think that would be a great move.
Smokey (21-Feb) : Sitton was drafted be GB in 2008, not a young man at this point, but still is a "bear" of a man.
Cheesey (21-Feb) : Sitton? Maybe if the price is right.
Cheesey (21-Feb) : I doubt the Packers would try to resign Sutton. But who knows? If the price is right?
Zero2Cool (20-Feb) : Bears declining option on Josh Sitton. He'll be Free Agent.
Zero2Cool (20-Feb) : Chiefs CB Marcus Peters trade rumors -- come to Packers!
