GREEN BAY — When the National Football League schedule came out this spring, Aaron Rodgers wasn't particularly thrilled with the idea of having a bye after only three games.

But after a 1-2 start, a rare poor performance and a host of teammates sidelined with injuries, the Green Bay Packers quarterback isn't complaining anymore.

Rodgers, speaking on his weekly radio show on 540 ESPN and ESPNWisconsin.com during a break in shooting a commercial, said Tuesday that the bye — the earliest the Packers have had since a Week 4 bye in 1999, Ray Rhodes' only season as coach — actually comes at a good time.

Check back with him in a couple months amid a 13-week stretch of games, of course, but Rodgers said the break is welcomed with outside linebacker Clay Matthews (hamstring), safety Morgan Burnett (hamstring), nickel cornerback Casey Hayward (hamstring), tight end Jermichael Finley (concussion/stinger), running back Eddie Lacy (concussion), running back James Starks (knee), running back Johnathan Franklin (foot), fullback John Kuhn (hamstring) and special teams ace Jarrett Bush (hamstring) having all either missed last Sunday's 34-30 loss to Cincinnati or left the game with an injury suffered against the Bengals.

"I think every year you're always happy with the timing of the bye. If something happens, whether it's injuries or the game you just played, you get there and you're excited about the opportunity to recharge and step away," Rodgers said. "We've got a lot of injuries right now, guys that we need to get back in order to get this thing going in the right direction — Jarrett Bush and Morgan and Clay and John Kuhn and Eddie and James and Johnathan in the backfield, Jermichael. We've had our share of injuries here in three games. It'll be good to get those guys two weeks to get ready for their next game.

"It's interesting, I've never had a bye even remotely near this as a Week 4 bye, but we'll make the most of it and try and find that rhythm to get on a run here."

Rodgers disputed the notion that this team is taking on a 2010-esque feel by dealing with injuries and adversity while getting off to a tepid start. The 2010 team that went on to win Super Bowl XLV started the season 3-1 but was 3-3 before back-to-back wins sent the team into its bye at 5-3. The Packers were 8-6 and on the outside looking in at the playoffs before back-to-back victories to finish the regular season gave them the sixth and final NFC playoff berth.

"I want to speak for myself here and say it's too early to tell if it feels like 2010, and secondly, there's no moral victories as far as I'm concerned," Rodgers said. "There's no silver lining after a loss. Obviously you're going to talk about the positives to it's not all negative around the facility, but a loss is a loss. And I think when you're a strong competitor, the losses, you hate losing more than you love winning. You want to be perfect every week and you want to win. That's what we get paid to do.

"It was frustrating, and we'll see what happens. In 2010 we had a lot of guys who we weren't counting on before the season started play big roles for us and really contribute. You could see some of that. You look at a guy like David Bakhtiari, there wasn't a whole lot expected from him. James Starks, might not have been a whole lot expected of him. Those guys have obviously stepped up to this point. It'll be interesting to see if who else does and if we can get things rolling like that team did."

For that to happen, Rodgers will have to play better than he did on Sunday, when he had a passer rating of 64.5. For perspective, Rodgers is 58-31 (including 5-3 in the playoffs) as a starter. In those 89 regular- and post-season games, he has had a passer rating higher than 100.0 in 55 of them. He's had a passer rating of 80.0 or higher in all but 10 of those 89 games.

"That's the blessing of being pretty consistent over my time as a starter, that's why it's frustrating when you don't play as well as you want to," Rodgers said. "You first have to give credit to Cincinnati and their defense and their scheme and their defensive coordinator and their head coach who obviously has a hand in the defense. They had a good plan for us and they executed well, and that's what it usually comes down to — especially when you're playing a good opponent.

"I'm looking forward to — me personally and I know my teammates are — executing better as a whole on offense. It's frustrating, a frustrating day, but it's a good learning experience for us and hopefully we can take a lot from that experience and build on it here in the next 13 weeks."

I thought the injuries to Finley and Lacey were due to safeties leading with the crown of their helmet....

The loss to the Bengals was really heartbreaking b/c Rodgers was off, but IMO, it was a rookie rb fumble that really cost us the game.

I still see no pass rush from our interior line, and if not corrected, it could be a long season.

With the bears and Lions already 3-0, the game after the bye is without a doubt a must win IMO

Packers lose that game, its going to be tough to make the playoffs..we have to play Detroit on Thanksgiving in their house and two losses to the Lions would be impossible to overcome to make the playoffs...

I think the Cardinals would object to your 3 - 0 comment.

The whole conference has had troubles so far. The Lions are the only non division leader that's better than 1-2 at this point and they've already played 3 of the easiest games on their schedule so far. It's too early for anything to be a must win especially since all the other wild card contending teams have the same record.

Good point. Just because our team is 1-2 does not mean we won't be a playoff team. Both losses were difficult match-ups, and neither of which were blowouts.

With a healthier secondary our coverage over the middle SHOULD improve substancially. Many teams are struggling due to being early in the season and/or injured key players. Our problems go a bit deeper than just injury, but that fact doesn't do us any favors.

Personally I would rather have these problems arise earlier on so there is time to find solutions. If we were in the last half of the season I would be much more concerned.
thanks Post received 1 applause.

I don't ever remember any team clinching a playoff spot in September.

0-3 would be different, odds become much greater, Packers have 1 win , a conference win, which helps in the end if they are playing for a wild card spot.

Take care of business at home and split on the road, that's 12-4.

Lions up in week 5, home game, I have no doubt it will be a Packer victory.

Zero2Cool (59m) : which is of course ok, i just personally see it as weird.
Zero2Cool (1h) : Just odd that a Packers fan points out when Packers perceived to get away with something, yet ignore opponent. Weird.
Zero2Cool (1h) : Packers added RB Christine Michael (back) to the injury report as questionable
uffda udfa (1h) : Not diminishing anything. He got away with OPI. Didn't notice before. Was in airport.
Zero2Cool (3h) : Bahahahahahahha GO PACK GO!!!!
Zero2Cool (3h) : when you're buying your Super Bowl LI Champion gear, be critical of that too!
Zero2Cool (3h) : keep trying to diminish what the Packers have done and ...
Zero2Cool (3h) : one... that's just how it goes. They let the players play. But go ahead
Zero2Cool (3h) : Everyone knows on the hail mary type passes, those little shoves won't be called. Think replacement refs 2012. So, no did not get away with
Dulak (4h) : ya I think they mentioned that U U ... but you see this alot - even in the dallas game they pushed off at least 1 time (they as in dallas)
uffda udfa (10h) : Just rewatched Cobbs hail mary catch in slo mo...he should've been flagged for OPI. Got away with one.
uffda udfa (12h) : Nope. I like Gus.
beast (13h) : Did you want Anthony Lynn as HC? Cushion Bradley was going to follow Lynn where ever.
uffda udfa (14h) : Gus Bradley is new DC in SD/LA. I would've loved to had him here in Green Bay.
uffda udfa (18h) : It's just fine.
musccy (18h) : 5 questionable Packers, none for Falcons. Not good.
uffda udfa (18h) : Jordy not listed as OUT or DOUBTFUL. Questionable on injury report.
uffda udfa (19h) : This is the 6th straight game we've faced someone for the 2nd time. We learn.
uffda udfa (19h) : Aaron: I like our role. I like our chances. (said he relishes being an underdog)
uffda udfa (19h) : Aaron alludes to fake crowd noise at Georgia Dome for Sunday.
uffda udfa (20h) : So, to recap. Losing streak "just the way it is", winning streak "astronomical feat". #Balanced
uffda udfa (20h) : Ironically, he called the turn around "astronomical" not just the way it is in the NFL. #Don'tMissTheIrony
uffda udfa (20h) : Ted tells Demovsky the Packers weren't underachieving when 4-6. Just the way it is in the NFL????
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Only time I recall getting annoyed is when they beat a single topic over and over and over.
Pack93z (20-Jan) : Most yes... Heller seems to get it more so... diversity in his coverage... but seemingly can highlight the pressing issues properly.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : I'm kind of in the boat that they all are babblying boonies.
Pack93z (20-Jan) : God bless it... Bill Michaels can be a stubborn SOB at times... love his Packers coverage, still think he is a buffoon at times.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Jordy Nelson Named PFWA Comeback Player of the Year
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Carter is predicitng the end is in ATL for Packers.
Porforis (20-Jan) : Or I could just completely miss the part where that was Cris Carter.
Porforis (20-Jan) : Careful there. Don't you want to predict a Packers loss just in case?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : @criscarter80 :Every fairy tale comes to an end, and this is where the magic carpet ride stops in the ATL.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : McCarthy: "JC Tretter actually had surgery Tuesday. He won't be available this week"
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Crosby is fine now. Full Participant in practice Thursday
Porforis (20-Jan) : What I'm more worried about at this point is WR injuries and Crosby being sick. Who'd be the backup if Crosby can't go?
