Ted Thompson has made a lot of brilliant draft picks since taking over as Green Bay Packers general manager in 2005. He drafted some guy named Aaron Rodgers in the first round in 2005, Greg Jennings (current issues aside) in the second round in 2006,  Jordy Nelson in the second round in 2008 and both [...]

The jury is still out on Datone Jones.

2008 and 2009 are the two best, in my opinion.

Jordy Nelson, Josh Sitton, and Jermichael Finley all came from the '08 draft. That's a remarkable haul. Clay Matthews, B.J. Raji, T.J. Lang, and Brad Jones all came from the '09 draft. That’s another remarkable haul. That's three starters from 2008 and four from 2009. I see only two definitive starters from 2012.

2013 is a promising class, but it’s still under evaluation.

I agree that it's too early to tell, but regardless, it's looking like the Packers got nine players that have already substantially contributed and a few starters that are looking pretty damn good. I expect a couple more starters to emerge sooner rather than later (Hyde, Tretter, Jones). That's a pretty damn good draft class, even if it isn't his "best."

It's pretty hard for a guy with Ted's track record to top himself.

hard to remember whom he drafted ...

ok so a rookie LT that is doing decent; but then again the only reason he is playing is we got what 3 starters on IR? ... Bulaga, Sherrod, errr and the big guy errr forgot his name.

Datone - errr for a 1st rounder I dont know how you rate him highly ... daniels seems to be doing better then him.

lacy ... ya ... but as a previous article pointed out; something is clicking with our Oline and the run game ... doesnt take a scientist to figure out 3 different 100 yard runners in a row earlier this season.

What about all the WRs? ...

I liked the year we drafted CM3 and raji ...

While not a block buster draft in terms of starters drafted or the usual Ted Thompson dozen draft picks, I think the 2010 draft was pretty solid in terms of getting production out of all the picks from top to bottom (when healthy as the 2010 draft is a bit snake-bitten in terms of health).

Aaron Rodgers in 2005 far surpasses all of the others by himself.

As for this year, Lacy is impressive, but length of career, etc. will have a lot to do with how much of a success he is. Other than that, I don't know - Datone Jones sure hasn't shown much, not a bust yet, but a disappointment so far. Bakhtiari is about what you would expect from a 4th rounder, decent but nothing special so far. Franklin has been a real disappointment up to now. Hyde? Pleasant surprise, but I'm not sure he has much upside. Palmer? Barrington? Maybe is about the best I can say. Did I forget anybody?

All in all, I would grade this years draft about B- up to now anyway - OK but nothing special.

Damn Texas, I had to applaud you twice tonight on football issues. Maybe that's what you should stick to, cause your judgment on world issues is just incredibly poor.

Why's everyone so down on Datone?

Dude had a kill shot on the QB, first preseason game. RT tripped him, sprained his ankle.

Dude's gonna be fine.

If he's not a star in the first 9 weeks of the season, he sucks.

Daniels is a good example. He looked very average last year, but this year seems to be a different player. Some players just take some time. Nothing can be said about Datone Jones other than he needs to keep improving. At least he has made a couple of plays so far, which is better than many draft picks do in their first few games.

But...but...but... he was a first round draft pick. If not a pro bowl caliber player he should at least be in consideration right? I mean he was a first round pick after all.

hahahaha I was thinking the same about you. I almost applauded your Mason Crosby post just because it was the first time I saw the new pic of your cute kids.

Back to this thread, Nerdman, I didn't label Datone a bust, I just said he hadn't done much yet. And I suppose it is valid to say sometimes it takes a year or so for a D Lineman to reach his peak. I'm as hopeful as anybody, and I was thoroughly happy when we drafted him, but he is what he is - so far. If you want me to give the 2013 Draft an "incomplete" instead of a B-, fine, you got it.

I actually panned the pick at the time. I felt he was undersized for what this D ostensibly wants to do.

But let the dude's ankle heal before we judge.

I don't have any evidence for this but I think Jones bulking up so fast from his draft weight (280-283 from various draft articles) to 295 when he reported to camp affected his injury recovery.

The undersized thing is a joke. He's the same size as guys like Justin Smith, and several others. His size has nothing to do with his performance, that's for sure.

Jones could have been seen as a reach at the time but he will develop. He will be a great pro I believe but many people said he will a progression over the year. Daniels has improved a lot from year 1 to year 2, and I expect the same from Jones next year. He just can't hurt us with penalties like he had against the Vikings. That is unacceptable. He will need to learn from them.

I still think Ted Thompson should trade his 1st round pick every year, I mean the guys always seem to get hurt lately. And Ted Thompson should start using FA to get o-lineman because he sure as hell can't draft them lol.

Since 2005 he has had 9 1st round picks and at first he did ok with 4 of the 1st 5 not injured ( bustin Harrell the only one injured) but the last 4 all have been injured.

Keep in mind, he also drafted Bahktiari.

Sherrod did not have a significant injury history. He just got caught in a pile and his leg snapped. Could have happened to anyone.

Zero2Cool (8h) : Hi 😊😉
TheKanataThrilla (13h) : I guess I should have did a refresh when I walked away from the computer.
TheKanataThrilla (13h) : Peters is 25 with one year left on his contract at just over $3M
Zero2Cool (15h) : Mel Kiper sticks with Marcus Davenport to GB in 2nd mock
Zero2Cool (16h) : As for Marcus Peters, how old is he an what's his contract years left?
Zero2Cool (16h) : Packers got tired of Sitton's antics.
Zero2Cool (16h) : Sitton was released not because of play or salary, but personality. He will not be re-signed.
TheKanataThrilla (16h) : If we are planning on possibly cutting Cobb I can see the 2nd round pick. A second round pick for Peters is a pretty good deal.
Smokey (18h) : I'd offer Cobb + a 3rd round pick + a 6th round pick in 2019 for the CB Peters from KC.
TheKanataThrilla (18h) : I guess that is a highter round pick
TheKanataThrilla (18h) : Suggestion was a 2nd round pick. I would want a lower round pick. I think that is too much. A 3rd or 4th seems about right.
Smokey (18h) : Cobb and WHAT PICK ?
TheKanataThrilla (19h) : A suggestion I saw was a trade of Cobb and a Pick for Peters. I think that would be a great move.
Smokey (22h) : Sitton was drafted be GB in 2008, not a young man at this point, but still is a "bear" of a man.
Cheesey (21-Feb) : Sitton? Maybe if the price is right.
Cheesey (21-Feb) : I doubt the Packers would try to resign Sutton. But who knows? If the price is right?
Zero2Cool (20-Feb) : Bears declining option on Josh Sitton. He'll be Free Agent.
Zero2Cool (20-Feb) : Chiefs CB Marcus Peters trade rumors -- come to Packers!
