GREEN BAY — While Sean Richardson will definitely have a role in the Green Bay Packers defense, neither coach Mike McCarthy nor defensive coordinator Dom Capers was willing to anoint him as the starter Monday.

Richardson replaced incumbent starter M.D. Jennings during Sunday's 22-21 victory over the Atlanta Falcons, but the Packers stopped short of naming him the starter alongside Morgan Burnett for next Sunday's game at Dallas.

"No, we haven't made any decisions that way," Capers said. "I think both of them will have a role and it kind of depends on how the game goes. We felt at the time with having a big back in there [in Steven Jackson] and having Sean being able to step in there and play that, you saw him make a couple nice physical tackles up in there and supporting on the run."

Richardson played 38 snaps to Jennings' 21 Sunday. The only time Richardson came off the field after taking over for Jennings to start the second half was when the shield inside his facemask iced over and had to be scraped off on the sideline.

"I liked what he did on defense," McCarthy said. "Sean brings an attitude, an energy, juice. So he may get some more opportunities this week."

Because Richardson is much bigger (6-foot-2, 216 pounds) than Jennings (6-feet, 195 pounds), he makes more sense as a physical, up-in-the-box, run-support safety. But Capers said he believes Richardson can also do OK in coverage, where Jennings would seemingly have the advantage.

Richardson was activated off the physically unable to perform list last month after suffering a season-ending neck injury that required spinal fusion of the C5 C6 vertebrae last year.

"I thought he went in and did a nice job. What we asked him to do, you can see he's got a physical presence to him in terms of being able to step up in there, had a couple nice plays on the run, filled on the run," Capers said. "So we'll continue to work him. You think about it, he's only been back a few weeks here now.

"He'll have another week of practice, and I can see him playing more possibly this week."

Will he start? I love this question. Now that's a good question for an article to ask. I am tired of the Rodgers talk these days.

My guess is no. My heart says yes though. I feel like the staff will give Jennings time in there at his starting spot and see how things go. Our injuries at ILB play a role in this too as we could see more safeties on the field than normal in certain situations.

I think he starts. Listened to LeRoy Butler the other day talking about how Richardson came in for Jennings, and that Jennings not getting another snap thereafter meant it was a clear "benching." I'm super happy for Sean Richardson, and how well he played last Sunday. Wish him all the best the rest of the way! A big, physical presence there is just what we need, and I'm sure he can cover better than MD Jennings has… what is Capers talking about? wow. At least, I certainly hope so.

Could be a coaching ploy for the kid's head not to get too big too soon.

As long as Bush "doesn't have to actually start", he seems to be able to play whatever position they put him at, at a pretty high level.

I would like to see him get the start and leave him to play deep coverage. M.D is just not big enough IMO. Richardson gives us greater height to go up for the ball and fight taller WR and TE, he also is the fastest of our safeties which is nice to have deep and has been missing since Collins was lost. While not at that 4.36 of Nick's, 4.43 aint to shabby.

Improving the deep coverage, would shrink the gaps in the zone that are killing us lately.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

Zero2Cool (13h) : whoa...49ers have had trade conversations about both Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk
Zero2Cool (14h) : I hope they take a Punter at 9th overall. Be bold!
Mucky Tundra (14h) : I may end up eating those words but I think they need a lot more talent then their 4 picks can provide
Mucky Tundra (14h) : I really hope they stand pat and Draft a WR
Mucky Tundra (14h) : @DMRussini
Mucky Tundra (14h) : The Chicago Bears are very open for business at 9 and telling teams they are ready to move for the right price, per source

dfosterf (24-Apr) : Mucky- The only thing fun to watch would be me flipping the f out if Gute goes up to 13 and grabs Brock Bowers, lol

beast (21-Apr) : I haven't looked into the QBs, but some have suggested Maye has some of the most extremely inconsistent tape they've seen
beast (21-Apr) : Well it also sounds like Patriots are listening to trade offers, not that seriously considering any, but listening means they aren't locked
Zero2Cool (21-Apr) : Maye needs to be AFC
Mucky Tundra (21-Apr) : Not liking the idea of the Vikings getting Maye
Zero2Cool (21-Apr) : Vikings HC joked that he may or may not have sent flowers to Bob Kraft. That's where rumor came from.
beast (21-Apr) : Can't tell if this is real or BS, but some rumors about a possible Patriots/Vikings trade for #3 overall
dfosterf (21-Apr) : One playbook to my knowledge. I was shooting for facetious.
beast (20-Apr) : I'm not sure they have different playbooks for different OL positions, and Dillard run blocking is supposedly worse than his pass blocking..
dfosterf (19-Apr) : The only problem with that is he isn't a guard either.
dfosterf (19-Apr) : Put him at right guard. That is where he will be coached. That is where he will compete. He is not even allowed to look at the LT playbook.
dfosterf (18-Apr) : Kidding aside, I hope the best for him.
dfosterf (18-Apr) : Went to a Titans board. One comment there. Not very long. I quote: "LOL" They don't sound overly upset about our aquisition.
beast (18-Apr) : OT Dillard has been absolutely horrible... like OG Newman levels
dfosterf (18-Apr) : Suit him up and have him stand in front of the big board as a draft day cautionary tale.
