Hope he still has some juice left. How the hell do they use him? He's not really a 3-4 guy is he? I can't imagine him moving inside on subpackages. Maybe this means they'll use him at end in 3 DL in nickel and dime this season?

I read an interview where he said he always wanted to play in a 3-4. For what it is worth. The guy is a situational beast. Awesome signing!

I'm thinking he's a young 34 yrs. old - never seriously injured, and way above average athleticism. I'm happy the Packers signed him. I wonder if he will be a DE all the way or if he plays some at OLB too. Hopefully he will teach Datone Jones some of what he knows.

Huh. Gonna have to look for that.
Post this news on FB and a friend who's also a Packers fan commented with this:
"Uhhhh... Wow. This just in peppers has been injured when learning about the news..."

Jason Wilde said: GREEN BAY — Julius Peppers is a member of the Green Bay Packers.
That is not a misprint.
The ex-Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears defensive end signed a three-year deal with the Packers on Saturday morning, a stunning bolt of free-agency lightning that delivers one of the NFL's best pass-rushers to a team that has historically avoided major free-agent splashes.
ESPN's Josina Anderson broke the story and reported that agent Carl Carey told Anderson that the deal is for three years and a maximum of $30 million, including $7.5 million in guaranteed money and $8.5 million in 2014 pay.
The eight-time Pro Bowl selection was released Tuesday by the Bears in a cost-cutting move. Peppers would have counted a whopping $18.183 million against Chicago's salary cap this season and had a base salary of $13 million.
Peppers, 34, spent his first eight NFL seasons with the Carolina Panthers after being picked in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft out of North Carolina. He has 118.5 career sacks, the second-most in the NFL during his time in the league.
Peppers, who went to Chicago on a six-year, $84 million deal that including $42 million in guaranteed money in 2009, spent the past four seasons with the Bears and had 37.5 sacks while starting all 64 of the team's games over that span.
In Green Bay, Peppers is reunited with Mike Trgovac, who was his defensive coordinator with the Panthers. Trgovac is the Packers' defensive line coach.

He's played RE and LE in a 4 - 3 his career.
Two major questions
1. Where does he play? OLB or DE?
2. What number will he sport?
98 97 94 92 91 are the only 90's numbers left. I'm gonna guess 94

I was excited about this...if it happened 5 years ago. Maybe it will work out, and I hope you're right, I'm just skeptical.
Also, I haven't seen the numbers, but if it's true that he's guaranteed even more than Raji is, it seems like we're paying him a bit much (that's not an endorsement of Raji). I assume there is no way this deal lasts beyond 2 years, and better be back end loaded.

Agreed. I don't see him being here for more than two years between his salary and age.

2013 stats
Peppers
1 int
7.5 sacks
31 tackles
2 forced fumbles
Raji
13 tackles
I think Peppers gives more to the team, therefore he got more from the team.

I hear it's 3.5 mill against the cap in 2014. Hardly affects anything cap-wise. Good stuff.

If that's true, good, he's cheaper than Raji!

Peppers picks the PackersQuote:It’s unclear how much Peppers has left in the tank. His compensation from the Packers will reveal what his new team thinks of a player who undoubtedly will be moved to outside linebacker in the team’s 3-4 defense.
Hmmmm? How do they know that?

My guess is he stays at DE. 6-7 285 lb is pretty decent size for a DE and he's been pretty good holding up against the run.
IMO, this is a very smart deal. Low risk/high reward type of deal. They only gave him 7.5 mill guaranteed. If he doesn't work out, they can just cut him and not take any substantial hit. However, if it does work out, the Packers just added both a versatile player along the DL and a veteran leader to show our young guys how to get it done.

Well I just had a flash of a thought
Base-DE
2 DL-Nickel OLB
I can't imagine him dropping back in coverage much if they do that. And would it be too much to ask if we can get some combination of Peppers, Clay, Daniels and Perry/Jones/Neal all rushing the QB all at once?

I don't know why you guys are looking at him as anything more than a designated pass rusher. I doubt he even starts but if he does, it will be at DE. I hope they stick him right next to D. Jones in the locker room. Peppers has been a very good pass rusher in this league for a long time, and I'm sure Rodgers will be glad to have him on our team instead of against him.
