Bart Starr and his wife, Cherry, were in western Wisconsin last month to speak at Boy Scout fundraiser dinners. Starr, who turned 80 years old in January, reflected on his Pro Football Hall of Fame career and life with Packer Plus.

Love this quote. Made me smile.

A. My father, who was a master sergeant and the toughest man I've even known. Next to him, Coach Lombardi was a piece of cake.

Still the Greatest!!!!!!

I don't know if that would have happened,

but The front office did him no favor by pulling off the now infamous "John Hadle trade", which pretty much handcuffed Bart for the 1st 3 years in the draft.

There was no Free Agency back then, so Bart had to live with no 1st rnd picks for 2 years and 2nd rnd picks I think for 3 years.

He did what he could.

Great offense, porous defense.

Loved Mad Dog Douglas though.

We can disagree whether he's the greatest Packer quarterback ever. (He was, I'm right, and anyone who disagrees with me as wrong.)

And he certainly was hired as head coach way before he was ready.

But his inherent greatness, his inherent goodness, that is unquestioned.

Even given his advanced age, I'd vote for him for President in a heartbeat.

I've seen a number of famous and "important" people in my life. But none of them stands out in my mind like Bart Starr does. As long as I live I'll never forget the time I walked with Starr as he accompanied a young man in a wheelchair behind the stands at what was then Memorial Stadium at the U of Minnesota after a game in which he got battered and bruised by Eller and company.

Never.

That day, and in his life, he showed himself not just a football player with Hall of Fame credentials. He showed himself a man. And not just a man, but a man of unimpeachable character. A man of rightness.

Amongst the noisy who proclaim their leadership skills at every turn, there are those quiet mean and women who are true leaders. Bart Starr is such a man.

There are giants among us worthy of extra respect and attention. Bart Starr is one of them.

uffda udfa (4h) : Need some strong sharp passionate voices on D. Daniels gives great quotes.
uffda udfa (4h) : Nick Perry seems to be the team leader as he was giving pregame speeches that seemed very uninspiring.
uffda udfa (4h) : Morgan and his 14 wonderlic. Ever hear him talk? Man, not a bright guy at all.
uffda udfa (4h) : Burnett needs to be replaced. That's our leader? Or one of them? No, thanks.
beast (5h) : For the secondary, I think Burnett/Haha are the leaders.
Smokey (6h) : GB needs a new motto : DEFENSE RULES ! , is intended to change the direction of the Packers focus moving forward .
Smokey (6h) : Thank You Zero.
Zero2Cool (6h) : Great reading a thread and seeing "defense rules" spammed in them all. Great reading material.
Smokey (6h) : DEFENSE RULES !
Zero2Cool (6h) : Think you need to defensive leaders. Front Seven and Secondary. We seem to lack both. Daniels is closest.
beast (7h) : Packers players had a right to complain when they were being bullied by Mike Daniels... just talking about Packers ;-) jk
Zero2Cool (7h) : It was the 26th largest margin since 1940. Feels much worse
Zero2Cool (7h) : thought it was biggest margin of victory in Conf Championship, I was mistaken.
Smokey (9h) : Wow ! The Packers got disrespected too !
Smokey (9h) : Hello ?
uffda udfa (10h) : Can't. MM burned them all.
Smokey (10h) : go pack go ?

Smokey (11h) : go pack go :)
Zero2Cool (11h) : STOP! Talk Packers or STFU. K thanks. :-)
uffda udfa (11h) : Ranting about everyone to stop talking Wolf while talking cooking appliances.
uffda udfa (11h) : I told you the truth. It upset you. U were hypocritical.
Smokey (12h) : yes I was, but he just ...
Zero2Cool (12h) : We all have the same ability to ignore someone. Exercise that. GO PACK GO!!!
Smokey (12h) : NOT YOUR FIGHT NONSTOP
Nonstopdrivel (12h) : ving again.
Nonstopdrivel (12h) : Calling him a bully? Telling him to leave? Seriously? This is the kind of shit that drove me away last time and is making me contemplate lea
Smokey (13h) : Be a good fellow and go pester another forum.
Smokey (13h) : It amazes me that you've remained in this forum for as long as you have.
Smokey (13h) : This is not your schoolyard to bully others, in fact I was that kid who stood up to the bully and kicked his ass.
Smokey (13h) : In the end the bully ended up in prison as everyone else grew up and moved on with their lives.
Smokey (13h) : I rate you with the hated schoolyard bully that tried to terrorize others to feel himself big.
Smokey (13h) : U2, it is obvious that you don't care if people like you or not. Well people don't.
uffda udfa (15h) : It's the same day every day at 1265. They crave sameness.
