disappointed - but not as much as when Raji was signed hahaha. A LOT less disappointed than when Brad Jones was re-signed.

It gives the Packers a fall back option at QB.. if Tolzien develops.. that creates a good problem. Additionally in a draft like this with several decent QB prospect in it.. may give the Packers the ability to draft and develop for the future. Murray comes to mind.. Mettenburg.. a slew in that category.

unless he got too much money there is really 0 downside to signing him.

Even if he did get a little more money than he probably deserves, who cares. It's not going to impact anything. The Packers almost always have money to sign players. They just prefer compensatory draft picks and resigning their own guys.

With that being said, how would this signing impact next year's compensatory picks?

Count me as a fan of this signing. I like Flynn, and I believe he is capable of producing at a very high level if needed. Just what you want at backup QB. Plus, he and Rodgers are good friends. That chemistry is good.

re signing your own FA doesn't factor into compensatory picks. The point of the system is to somewhat compensate for losing good players from your team.

Was only a matter of time, no way Ted was going to let Matt Flynn go to New York, not after last year.

Matt may have received a little more money with the planned trip to New York, if so, good for him.

Solid backup while Tolzien keeps developing.

Now just waiting for the news Jolly and Pickett are coming back.

Hopefully Johnny is healthy again and no matter what some think, Ryan Pickett's veteran leadership will be worth any money he gets.

I think its fair to assume that the contract is a "safe" contract and honestly, I'd prefer to overpay him a little....
1. because we have plenty of cap space to do so.
2. I'd rather not go through what we endured last season.

Flynn brings the security needed at the back-up position and he has proven that he can fill the role of backing up Rodgers when needed. I am just happy we won't ever have to experience Seneca Wallace again.

The move also frees up a pick. I'm thinking we are good with the 3 QBs they have, and if they need a camp arm they can sign a UDFA. I really like this. One year contract.

Ah OK. I thought that any signing of unrestricted free agents counted the same, whether they used to be a part of the Packers on a previous contract, or not.

He's a better version of Doug Pederson under Favre. A career backup to a future hall of fame quarterback is a pretty good gig for a noodle armed quarterback. At least the Seahawks and Raiders were the ones that made him financially secure for life and not us.

I think the best thing about bringing back Flynn, is he will be a good resource for Tolzien to better learn the offense. Less questions that McCarthy and Rodgers will need to field.

Anything over a million is overpaying though.

I think they look at it kind of like a loss vs gain over last season and since we had Flynn last season its neither a loss or a gain. They only take into consideration players whose contracts had run out with their previous team so signing Peppers will not have any ramifications on comp picks either since he was cut by the Bears and had not played out his contract.

I don't know how much it plays into Teds decisions but it has to be a factor.

That's actually a good comparison. I missed Doug when he left. I think he's offensive coordinator for Chiefs?

buckeyepackfan (4h) : Just like last year at 4-6. The guy is just too funny!
buckeyepackfan (4h) : GOOD news Uffda is already all but writing The Packers off for 2017!

uffda udfa (12h) : Now, a guy they really liked and have groomed for 3 years is the guy. Tons of toys on O. Let's see how it runs with a great coach, now.
uffda udfa (12h) : The Flynn Patriots game has been used to say that he is. Seneca and Scott showed otherwise.
uffda udfa (12h) : Hundley is going to settle the debate once and for all in whether Mike McCarthy is a great coach, or not.
uffda udfa (12h) : Doesn't speak well to the talent acquired by the org, does it? Easy to say talent is great until Rodgers is gone and you have to see it wit
Porforis (12h) : Could Sam Bradford come into the Packers and post a winning record from here on out? Are there any non-starters in the NFL that could?
Zero2Cool (13h) : Teddy is replaceable. Aaron is not. Vikings have a really good defense. We do not. Understand??
Zero2Cool (13h) : You are wise enough to know the difference. Right?
uffda udfa (14h) : Here's one for you, Z. Vikes lose Teddy B. and go out and aggressively get Bradford. Packers lose 12 and go out and get a UDFA.
uffda udfa (14h) : :) Evans had a pre-draft visit with Packers.
Zero2Cool (14h) : Put it in a topic. My lord why so difficult lol

uffda udfa (16-Oct) : @ProFootballDoc says Rodgers could return Week 14 at earliest, and surgery speeds up return timeline.
Zero2Cool (16-Oct) : McCarthy dropped a "bullshit" on packers.com stream. No delay apparently lol
Zero2Cool (16-Oct) : @AaronNagler One thing is crystal clear: McCarthy is pissed at the way his team played yesterday.
Smokey (16-Oct) : 2017 Packers are done , time to focus on the 2018 NFL Draft .
Zero2Cool (16-Oct) : Mike McCarthy says Aaron Rodgers "suffered a significant injury". Will require surgery. Potentially season could be over.
Zero2Cool (16-Oct) : McCarthy --Rodgers will have surgery. Potentially season is over.
