McCarthy doesn't have 'high concern' about Lacy

GREEN BAY — Coach Mike McCarthy doesn't have "high concern" about the hip injury that sidelined running back Eddie Lacy for the final series of the Green Bay Packers' 43-37 victory over the Atlanta Falcons Monday night.

Lacy bruised his hip during the fourth quarter and was unable to finish the game, as backup James Starks took over for him and helped the Packers run out the final 2-plus minutes of clock with a 41-yard run.

McCarthy didn't have details about Lacy's hip injury but had discussed it with team physician Dr. Pat McKenzie Tuesday. McCarthy said many of his players will meet with the medical staff Wednesday morning with the short week leading into Sunday's game at Buffalo.

"I don't have high concern based off the information talking with Doc McKenzie last night," McCarthy said Tuesday. "Coming off a Monday night game, [Wednesday] will be a lot like a Tuesday [as players' bodies recover]. We'll see how these guys go through their examinations."

Lacy carried 13 times for 73 yards and finished with 106 total yards from scrimmage and a pair of touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving).

Starks complemented Lacy's performance with 10 carries for 75 yards after carrying only 10 times for 7 yards in the previous three games.

"I just love the fact the way James responds with his opportunities," McCarthy said. "Obviously, Eddie was the feature back two weeks ago and we went into this with a one-two punch mentality and James was excellent. James Starks has played a lot of excellent football for us over the years and I thought last night was one of his best nights."

McCarthy says the injury is minor?

My only question is if he'll recover from his major injury in time to start game 1 next season.

James Starks played college in Buffalo so I think we might see something extra from him this week.
