Seriously, take Aaron Rodgers out of the equation and the Packers being built the way they are the Packers would be hovering around the 8-8 mark and Thompson wouldn't be in the conversation about being one of the best.,

People want to knock Thompson and say he would be average without Rodgers. Well what did Rodgers do those 3 years he sat behind Brett? He began his development. Do you know who helped develop Rodgers? The coaches who Ted Thompson brought in.

What?

I am The one asking the questions here.

Don't. Try and spin this around.

You argument is weak.

No GM is perfect,

Yet You seem to think Ted Thompson is one of the worst in the league.

You have given no valid reasons.

I asked you to post all those articles saying why ted should be replaced.
I can't. Find then.

What is the GM's job?

I think I know, but I need you to tell me, then maybe it will all make sensem

I have NEVER said Ted Thompson was a terrible GM. I have said I think he's a tinge above average. He's been extremely fortunate getting Rodgers to fall into his lap so that masks his unreal deficiencies in building an entire team. When your D is terrible and your ST's are terrible year after year why is that exactly? If you want to pin it on coaching then that's the GM's job to get the proper ones in here. Ted Thompson has FAILED and failed miserably in 2 of the 3 areas of team building. Would you really care to dispute that?

yoop is exactly right... take away Rodgers and we're barely, if, an 8-8 team. The talent minus Aaron is simply not good enough.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

There are always exceptions, but statements like this really aren't very logical, imo.

Ted Thompson absolutely isn't the best General Manager ever. No one is making that argument. He's probably not even the best GM in the NFL. But he is indisputably a very good General Manager, and that's much more than the majority of teams in the NFL have. Things can always be better, but they can also be much, much worse.

Last years team was absolutely good enough to win the Super Bowl. The team could have been better, but they were good enough to be Champions, but they failed to follow through. There's obviously a lot of blame for that, but also a good bit of credit.

You're gonna have to explain what that means.

Seems your only argument is Aaron Rodgers is the whole team.
Who drafted Aaron Rodgers?

There were 23 other GM's that passed on him.

The Packers were in no dire need for a starting QB.

So I guess a "tinge" would mean top 10?

A GM's main job, after hiring the guy he wants as HC, is to work with his scouting department on evvaluating, drafting, and signing players who he feels will keep the team relevant year after year.

The GM has many other duties, but let's just stick to the actual football side of things.

YOU say Ted got lucky that Aaron fell to him that year, I say that was the 1st of many moves the past 9 years that shows Ted is one of the best.

You going to disagree?

Ted hired Mike M.
You're hero, the guy who you have called the best in the business, Bill Bellicek, recently called Mike one of the best coaches he's ever went against.

So if Bill Bellicek has that high appraisal of Mike, then you Have to agree Ted was more than a "tinge" above average when he hired Mike.

Or maybe you don't agree.
What say you?

HC main job is to hire a staff and oversee the development of the players supplied to him by the GM.

Who was coaching Aaron Rodgers up, getting him ready to take over when the time came?

You say The only reason The Packers are relevant now is because of Aaron Rodgers.
That can be said about EVERY team in the league.
You either have a franchise QB or you are looking for one.

Again who drafted Aaron Rodgers?

Who developed Aaron Rodgers?

So tell me one more time why you think Ted Thompson is just a "Tinge over average"

I will tell you ONCE AGAIN, you're argument is weak!

Same as most of your opinions.
I was addicted to The Hokey Pokey, but I turned myself around!

Is there a single team in the league that would be better than 8-8 if you take away their allstar qb? what a dumb fucking argument.

In addition to getting hosed in '09 and shitting ourselves in '14, we can add injuries to the reasons we don't have more rings.

That ain't on Ted either.

It's amazing how much butthurt and personal trauma some people experience over a game.

I get it. As sports fans we tend to put part of our identity in our teams (which is why we say things like "...we beat them", or in your case, "...the reasons we don't have more rings" ). But when our happiness or sense of self-worth begins to depend on how our sports teams are doing, perhaps we need to reevaluate our lives. Carrying around all this bitterness and sense of entitlement over a form of entertainment is no way to live, imo.

So, sorry for the mini-rant, but I'm trying to enjoy this wonderful era of Packers football, and I often find reading through these boards is just depressing.

There is obviously more than one way to be a champion. It could be on the back of an elite quarterback and offense, or an elite defense, or it could be just an all around "good" but not "great" football team in all three phases. Either way, most teams are great in some areas and not as great in others. Most all of them would be average if their strength was taken away from them. That's the bigger point here. But it is true that a team with an average quarterback and an elite defense is very formidable. I think about the Giants, Ravens, and even the Seahawks, recently, imo.
