Hi green and gold packershome.com guys,

As every year I took over TT's responsibilities as the Packers GM in the Mock Draft on our german NFL message board. 32 guys trying to draft as good as they can for their respective teams 😉 Below you can see the complete Draft until Round 4 which is usually the cut-off point for me and when I'm replaced with a guy who knows more about those Draftees. :D

I'd appreciate any thoughts and comments on my "performance" and I'd like to hear who you would have picked instead as you see who was available at the respective time. So not only "God damn it, why didn't you select a XYZ in round X?" I 'd like to hear names ;)

Here's the Draft with my picks and an explanation in bold. Thoughts? Thanks, guys.

Round 1:

#1 Buccaneers - Jameis Winston, QB, FSU
#2 Titans - Leonard Williams, DE, USC
#3 Jaguars - Dante Fowler Jr., DE, Florida
#4 Raiders - Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama
#5 Redskins - Vic Beasley, LB, Clemson
#6 Jets - Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon
#7 Bears - Kevin White, WR, West Virginia
#8 Falcons - Randy Gregory, DE, Nebraska
#9 Saints (from Giants) - Shane Ray, DE, Missouri
#10 Eagles (from Rams) - Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State
#11 Chargers (from Vikings) - Danny Shelton, DT, Washington
#12 Browns - Ereck Flowers, OT, Miami
#13 Giants (from Saints) - Alvin Dupree, DE, Kentucky
#14 Dolphins - Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia
#15 49ers - DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville
#16 Rams (from Texans) - Brandon Scherff, OT, Iowa
#17 Vikings (from Chargers) - La'el Collins, OT, LSU
#18 Browns (from Chiefs) - Malcom Brown, DT, Texas
#19 Chiefs (from Browns) - Arik Armstead, DE, Oregon
#20 Texans (from Eagles via Rams) - Breshad Perriman, WR, UCF
#21 Bengals - D.J. Humphries, OT, Florida
#22 Steelers - Jalen Collins, CB, LSU
#23 Lions - Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford
#24 Cardinals - Marcus Peters, CB, Washington
#25 Panthers - Shaq Thompson, OLB, Washington
#26 Ravens - Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin
#27 Cowboys - Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest
#28 Broncos - Jordan Phillips, DT, Oklahoma
#29 Colts - Eddie Goldman, DT/NT, FSU

#30 Packers - Eric Kendricks, LB, UCLA

From Day 1 of the Mock Draft I was hoping that Kendricks would fall that far. Of course I was watching the highly rated players to fall, but Kendricks was my initial realistic target. So the board fell as I wanted and I got the ILB from UCLA. 3 down linebacker with great sideline to sideline ability. Very good in coverage, but also a sure tackler. I think that's a great guy to have next to Sam Barrington who brings a very different skill set to the table

#31 Saints - Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State
#32 Jaguars (from Patriots) - Cameron Erving, C, FSU

Round 2:

#33 Titans - Landon Collins, S, Alabama
#34 Buccaneers - Nate Orchard, DE, Utah
#35 Raiders - Owamagbe Odighizuwa, DE, UCLA
#36 Patriots (from Jaguars) - Byron Jones, CB, Connecticut
#37 Jets - Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma
#38 Redskins - Jake Fisher, OT, Oregon
#39 Bears - Paul Dawson, LB, TCU
#40 Giants - TJ Clemmings, OT, Pitt
#41 Rams - AJ Cann, OG, South Carolina
#42 Falcons - Maxx Williams, TE, Minnesota
#43 Browns - Nelson Agholor, WR, USC
#44 Saints - Benardrick McKinney, LB, Miss State
#45 Vikings - Devin Smith, WR, Ohio State
#46 49ers - PJ Williams, CB, FSU
#47 Dolphins - Phillip Dorsett, WR, Miami (Fl)
#48 Vikings (from Chargers) - Denzel Perryman, LB, Miami
#49 Chiefs - Rashad Greene, WR, FSU
#50 Bills - Laken Tomlinson, OG, Duke
#51 Titans (from Texans) - Eli Harold, LB Virginia
#52 Rams (from Eagles) - Reese Dismukes, C, Auburn
#53 Bengals - Carl Davis, DT, Iowa
#54 Seahawks (from Lions) - Preston Smith, DE, Mississippi State
#55 Cardinals - Stephone Anthony, LB, Clemson
#56 Steelers - Hau'oli Kikaha, OLB, Washington
#57 Panthers - Quinten Rollins, CB, Miami (Oh)
#58 Ravens - Sammie Coates, WR, Auburn
#59 Broncos - Cedric Ogbuehi, OT, Texas A&M
#60 Cowboys - Tevin Coleman, RB, Indiana
#61 Colts - Eric Rowe, CB/S, Utah

#62 Packers - Ronald Darby, CB, FSU

That was the first "not so nice" moment of my Draft. My target was Eric Rowe who went to the Colts one pick before I was on the clock. But I can easily live with Darby, who is with 5'11 on the border for a Packers corner, but has all the abilities to fit the scheme. Great speed, good in man coverage, tackling ability is OK. I wanted to have a CB who can start as a boundary corner opposite of Shields right away to keep Hayward/Hyde in the slot where they fit best. Noone of the remaining CB had that, but Darby could be in a position to take that spot after Hayward will fill in for half a season.

#63 Lions (from Seahawks) - Jay Ajayi, RB, Boise State
#64 Patriots - Michael Bennett, DT, Ohio State

Round 3:

#65 Buccaneers - Ty Sambrailo, OT, Colorado State
#66 Texans (from Titans) - Ameer Abdullah, RB, Nebraska
#67 Jaguars -Tre' Jackson, OG, FSU
#68 Raiders - Clive Walford, TE, Miami
#69 Redskins - David Johnson, RB, Northern Iowa
#70 Jets - Donovan Smith, OT, Penn St
#71 Patriots (from Bears) - Ali Marpet, OG, Hobart
#72 Rams - Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA
#73 Falcons - Anthony Harris, S, Virginia
#74 Giants - Damarius Randall, S, Arizona State
#75 Saints - Alex Carter, CB, Stanford
#76 Chargers (from Vikings) - Duke Johnson, RB, Miami
#77 Browns - Xavier Cooper, DT, Washington State
#78 Texans (from Giants) - Steven Nelson, CB, Oregon State
#79 Bills (from 49ers) - Henry Anderson, DE, Stanford
#80 Chiefs - Hroniss Grasu, C, Oregon
#81 49ers (from Bills) - Marcus Hardison, DT, Arizona State
#82 Giants (from Saints via Texans) - Grady Jarrett, DT, Clemson
#83 Vikings (from Chargers) - D'Joun Smith, CB, Florida Atlantic
#84 Eagles - Chris Conley, WR, Georgia
#85 Bengals - Cody Prewitt, S, Ole Miss
#86 Cardinals - David Cobb, RB, Minnesota
#87 Steelers - Jaquiski Tartt, S, Samford
#88 Lions - Josh Shaw, CB, USC
#89 Panthers - Derron Smith, S, Fresno State
#90 Ravens - Danielle Hunter, DE, LSU
#91 Cowboys - Trey Flowers, DE, Arkansas
#92 Broncos - Tyler Lockett, WR, Kansas State
#93 Colts - T.J. Yeldon, RB, Alabama

#94 Packers - Devin Funchess, WR, Michigan

Funchess played 3 years as a TE at Ann Arbor before switching to WR in his senior year. And to be honest, at neither of those pisitions he's superb. For a WR he might lack speed and has too many dropsies and for a TE his blocking is almost non-existent. I picked him because of his skill sets and because he can create match-up problems. Tall guy, long arms, can jump. Jermichael Finley went down and so did the production of the Packers TEs. Richard Rodgers has reliable hands, but will never be the Red Zone Target the Packers would like to have. I hope Funchess can be that guy as he's comparable to JMike. It was a boom-or-bust pick in round 3, but for me it was worth it

#95 Seahawks - Tony Lippett, CB, Michigan State
#96 Texans (from Bears over Patriots) - Mario Edwards, DE, FSU
comp#97 Patriots - Tre McBride, WR, William & Mary
comp#98 Chiefs - Doran Grant, CB, Ohio State
comp#99 Bengals - Jeff Heuerman, TE, Ohio State

Round 4:

#100 Bears (from Titans via Texans) - Tyeler Davison, DT, Fresno State
#101 Bears - (from Buccaneers via Patriots) - Markus Golden, OLB, Mizzou
#102 Browns (from Raiders) - Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, CB, Oregon
#103 Patriots (from Jaguars) - Lorenzo Mauldin, DE, Louisville
#104 Jets - ZaDarius Smith, DE, Kentucky
#105 Redskins - Adrian Amos, S, Penn State
#106 Bears - Tyrus Thompson, OT, Oklahoma
#107 Falcons - Mike Davis, RB, South Carolina
#108 Giants - Justin Hardy, WR, ECU
#109 Buccaneers (from Rams) - Ben Heeney, LB, Kansas
#110 Chargers (from Vikings) - John Miller, OG, Louisville
#111 Browns - Josh Robinson, RB ,Mississippi State
#112 Lions (from Seahawks) - Ty Montgomery, WR, Stanford
#113 Rams (from Eagles) - Ramik Wilson, LB, Georgia
#114 Dolphins - Senquez Golson, CB, Ole Miss
#115 Raiders (from Browns) - James Sample, SS, Louisville
#116 Texans - Rob Havenstein, OT, Wisconsin
#117 Colts (from Chargers) - Daryl Williams, OT, Oklahoma
#118 Chiefs - Jake Ryan, LB, Michigan
#119 Texans (from Rams) - Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor
#120 Bengals - Kenny Bell, WR, Nebraska
#121 Steelers - Mark Glowinski, OG, West Virginia
#122 Ravens - MyCole Pruitt, TE, Southern Illinois
#123 Cardinals - Rob Crisp, OT, N.C. State
#124 Panthers - Jeremy Langford, RB, Michigan State
#125 Ravens - Charles Gaines, CB, Louisville
#126 49ers - B.J. Finney, C, Kansas State
#127 Cowboys - Garrett Grayson, QB, Colorado State
#128 Chargers (from Colts) - DeAndre Smelter, WR, Georgia Tech

#129 Packers - Javorius Allen, RB, USC

My initial target was Jeremy Langford out of MSU and from the middle of the 4th round the Panthers were the only team I was afraid of picking him. All other teams already had picked a RB or were IMO searching for a different kind of back. So bad things happened and JL was gone. But I'm pretty OK with Buck Allen, who brings basically the same to the table that Langford does. Good hands out of the backfield, reliable in pass protection, ZBS RB, not elite speed to be the home runner, but good enough to beat the D outside if needed. Should be a solid complement to Eddie Lacy and when people compare him to Matt Forte, then I guess they have a high opinion on him as well.
;)

#130 Seahawks - Davis Tull, DE, Tennessee-Chattanooga
#131 Jaguars (from Patriots) - Buffalo 18.4. 11-14
comp#132 49ers - frontmode 18.4. 14-17
comp#133 Broncos - BroncoBomber 18.4. 17-20
comp#134 Seahawks - quatschi 18.4. 20-8
comp#135 Bengals - B-Dawk 19.4. 8-11
comp#136 Ravens - Chainz 19.4. 11-14

I'm not an expert, though, and most experts do see him around or before pick 30, so a good selection all together.

Round 2:

#62 Packers - Ronald Darby, CB, FSU

That was the first "not so nice" moment of my Draft. My target was Eric Rowe who went to the Colts one pick before I was on the clock. Noone of the remaining CB had that, but Darby could be in a position to take that spot after Hayward will fill in for half a season.

If you ask me, you came out the winner with Darby. Rowe is a late riser, not so much a good football player right now, but a good athlete. Darby, on the other hand, has both. Not quite as athletic, but I see him contributing from day one and go on to be a starter for years to go. A+ pick at 62, by my book.

Round 3:

#94 Packers - Devin Funchess, WR, Michigan

Funchess played 3 years as a TE at Ann Arbor before switching to WR in his senior year. And to be honest, at neither of those pisitions he's superb. I'm right there with your description. I don't think he has quite the upside Finley had, but he's a project in very much the same way. I've seen him go everywhere from halfway in round 2 to late in round 4. Like you said, a very boom-or-bust pick, but one that's worth it at that point in the draft.

🅱Round 4:

#129 Packers - Javorius Allen, RB, USC

My initial target was Jeremy Langford out of MSU and from the middle of the 4th round the Panthers were the only team I was afraid of picking him. All other teams already had picked a RB or were IMO searching for a different kind of back. So bad things happened and JL was gone. Should be a solid complement to Eddie Lacy and when people compare him to Matt Forte, then I guess they have a high opinion on him as well. ;)

I also would've liked Langford more. I see him as a more specialised third down back. A real different type to what we have now and a more skilled replacement for DuJuan Harris. Buck Allen feels closer to Starks than to Harris. Allen's more suitable for third downs and very good value at that pick, but I would've passed.

The two guy I noticed hadn't been picked yet are Gabe Wright and Gerod Holliman.

Gabe Wright would've been increble value here. Ridiculous first step and solid all-around. He's dropping because of his '14 season, but if you could coach him up a bit, he could be one heck of a 3-4 DE....

Holliman is one of the more interesting prospects this year. A safety with ball skills that could rival Nick Collins', but produced just one year. Can read QBs like a pro, but also be looked off. In short, he has an amazing skill set, but combined with just decent athleticism and questions about his motor and effort. In the fourth, though, I would've jumped on him.

Hi green and gold packershome.com guys,

I love to read this every single year. It makes me want to make my own mock draft. You always come away with an amazing batch of players with proper write-ups accompanying them.

Due to your nationality, I'm incapable of giving you any more praise than this, though.

#62 Packers - Ronald Darby, CB, FSU

Absolutely love this pick. I actually like Darby better than Rowe. Only other choice I'd seriously consider at this pick from those you have available would be Bennett at DT.
Fantastic pick!

#94 Packers - Devin Funchess, WR, Michigan

Funchess played 3 years as a TE at Ann Arbor before switching to WR in his senior year. And to be honest, at neither of those pisitions he's superb. Here, I disagree with you. I'd go with either McBride or Heuerman. At TE I'd also go with Ben Koyack over Funchess. I understand your rationale and Rock's, but I just think there's better at either position on your board.

#129 Packers - Javorius Allen, RB, USC

Okay pick. And of the RBs you have available, Allen is probably where I'd go.

That said, I'd pick any of these first (I think you have them all still available):
Tull (at OLB, not DE).
Leterrius Walton at DT
Gabe Wright at DT
Anthony Chickillo at DE
Jordan Hicks at OLB
Gerod Holliman at FS
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Great job Gilbert. I like your picks. I am not an expert. I am not even good enough to be an amateur.

The reason I would question R3 pick is they have a stable of WRs. In the draft and develop scheme you have to give the guys drafted last year a chance. Picking Funchess means bumping one of the young guys out. While I understand the need to keep feeding the WR machine, I don't think Abbrederis or Janis have had enough time for them to bring in the "next guy". And I don't think they will go out of their way to initially go 6 deep. At least they won't be trying to do so in April or May.

I hate going top heavy in the defensive side but maybe the DL is the place to go in round 3.

Once again well done.

Fine job Gilbert!

Mock drafts I have done on "first pick", Kendricks has Benn available late into the 2nd rnd.

But you are handcuffed with no option to trade down so, which could be the case when Ted is drafting, so he is a solid #30 pick.

Agree with CB in 2nd.

Not sure if I would have went your direction in the 3rd.

All in all a fine job.

Thanks for your comments, really appreciate it 🙂

I didn't like the defesive board at either #94 or #129, that's why I went offense. Gabe Wright is an interesting prospect, however, the experts are not sure if he fits better as a 4-3 DT, so I stayed away. But the dude is still on board and the next Packers Pick is in 10 Picks, so maybe replacement sees it differently 😉

@wpr

I didn't pick Funchess as a WR, but more as a move TE, so no worries, I absolutely didn't give up on Abbrederis and Janis. Their roster spots are not in danger because of Funchess 😉

I had no intentions to trade down and risk losing on Kendricks, and basically I would have. The Saints sitting right behind me at #31 were not amused when I picked Kendricks 😃 Also the Colts GM is now regretting to not have taken Kendricks at #29 because he failed to get one of the remaining starting caliber 3-4 ILBs. Kendricks was his back-up target at #29.

I've revised my draft priority list as of late.

1} Get the best CB on the board. Jalien Collins (CB) from LSU is a prime-time player.

2} Get the best LB on the Board. Eric Kendricks, Barnardrick McKinney

3} Get the best CB or LB still on the board.

The Packers have been weak on Defense, this must have been seen as players at those positions were let go. Building at these positions can only help the Special Teams as well.
