NO ONE drafted this week needs ONLY polishing. 99.9% of drafting is about projection as only 1 in several thousand college players have games that translate directly to the NFL. Each of us would look great as DTs in college if the OL were comprised of 1st graders. Similarly, the best player any draftee faces in college is worse, and typically by far, than any player he’ll face on Sunday. The reason why so many picks fail is because once a player achieves a minimum threshold level of athletic ability/football skill; the single most important trait that is predictive of NFL success is how quickly a player can learn the playbook/study film [so thinking is replaced w/ reaction] and taking to coaching; not differences in measurables or stats. Failure can be high when evaluating a person’s ability to learn, especially when that person is trying to convince you he can learn. Despite their relative athletic disparity; if Damarious Randall is a playbook/film sponge soaking up every ounce of coaching given to him and Wayans works at it 10% less; then Randall will be by far a better NFL player. This is why Rollins is a better pick than Dawson.

PS: If unhappy [or even happy for that matter] about a pick; think hard about how you developed that emotion about that player!

This is why the best organizations stock up on draft picks and utilize un-drafted free agents to a degree.

You get a small handful of truly elite players that have high ceilings and a low potential to be busts in each draft. Those players always go in the top 5.
After that, it's essentially a crap-shoot, and teams take players that look like they could be good, but who knows?

More and more I'm starting to believe that, outside of a first round pick with one or two big time traits that set them apart, it comes down more to coaching.

That isn't to say that well coached teams don't have busts.
But you have a lot of players who have the potential to be starters or solid role players.
The coaching they get in their first years is going to go a long way to unlocking that potential or pissing it away.
I am chosen by many but taken by no one.

Then again, Smokey IS right: Unless GB goes undefeated for the rest of time, they are bound to lose😂

The draft makes so many people crazy lol. Suddenly everyone is a freaking expert. Nobody wants to believe that the random prospect they thought was a top 10 player fell to the 5th round because they were wrong about him. Heh it has to be because all the teams in the NFL simply missed or were too dumb to see it, or some other excuse they can make up to avoid facing the fact that they aren't some hot shot evaluator.

The fact is, you have absolutelyNO clue how this draft and these players are going to effect the team, because you know jack at this point about how good or not good the players are going to be in the NFL. I mean shit, at least see them play with your own eyes before spouting some doomsday nonsense.

I think people would be a lot happier if they stop trying to be scouts and just enjoy the moment for what it is as a fan. The draft can be fun if you just relax.

Saying that this draft pick can develop or that pick has potential is just stupid. This is professional football, not Pop Warner, at this level players should not need developing , only polishing.

Next, if TT's picks are so good, then why were No Other Teams seriously considering them. The truth is that Ted Thompson is always looking to get the dirt cheapest players he can get, but you'll not see him returning any of his paycheck.

And, what special knowledge does Ted Thompson posses that 31 other professional football teams don't ? Frankly I'm not buying his BPA crap, I believe it is a cover for "I'll pick who I damn well please". I think he is 3 eggs short of Dozen .

The players Ted drafted will get paid pretty much the same amount of money as the players you wanted him to draft so to say he drafts his guys so he doesn't have to pay him as much makes no sense. Its not like "normally we would pay a guy drafted at this spot $300,000 but I chose you because none one else has heard of you that way I can get by with only have to pay you 150"

If you have listened to any of Teds press conferences you will note that he does not claim to have any special knowledge. His last one I listened to prior to the draft he said "I don't have any secrets" or words to that effect.
You are pissed because Ted didn't take the guys you wanted him to take or the guys you thought he should take. I would ask you the same question what special knowledge do you and 31 other GMs have that Ted doesn't. Every single player that Ted passed on to make his choices was passed on by multiple GMs and the vast majority of them were passed on multiple times. The fact is you have no clue (none of us have) where any other GM had any of Teds choices ranked. You base your opinions of who should have been drafted where on NEED, what you see in watching a few college games and hand picked highlights and what some national "experts" think about who is better than who. Frankly I trust Ted and his scouting staff a bit more than I trust you or some NFL draft expert whose job it is to get people to read his articles. I just don't understand why so many people are of the opinion that if they haven't heard the name bandied about by at least a dozen other people the player must suck.

You are not happy with the draft. We get that and you are certainly entitled to your opinion. However, I doubt you will get much support (at least not until Uffda gets back and maybe wade) on your total negativity. Even Texas, who has made it clear that he is no Ted Thompson fan, understands that it is not all black and white (can I say that or will Uffda label me a racist when he gets back) and that some of Teds picks, while not he ones he would have chosen, are at least promising.

I thought the typical complaint was that Ted Thompson was a tight wad... Now the packers are loose? I don't understand.
