Had Janis and Adams switched draft position, their playing time would've flip flopped. The common response would be...yeah, but that's why they were drafted where they were...one guy was better than the other. I don't know about that. Davante played in some crazy throw it all over the field O at Fresno and Janis came from the little leagues but like Texas said... Janis in his brief window on our TV's looked special and Davante just looks like any other WR we've had here in the past that wasn't top flight.

I've been screaming for some true playmakers on this O and Montgomery appears to be what I've been wanting save for his lack of super 40 time. We've needed a burner for so long...Janis is about as close as we have. Coxson's 40 times are all over the map and I don't trust he's a sub 4.3 guy.

It's hard for me to believe we won't be keeping 6 WR's this season. We know that 4 are locks in Jordy, RC18, Davante and Ty...that leaves 1 or 2 more spots. Abby and Janis are the returning drafted class. That makes 6. I'm really not sure why guys like Coxson and Pinkard chose to come to Green Bay? I really like Pinkard and Coxson has hype from Qadry Ismail as a T.O. clone. I just don't see how any UDFA is going to unseat Janis.

Has Abby put on any muscle? The guy did, what, 4 or 5 reps on the bench coming into last season? He just has to be stronger than that now.

#11 Larry Pinkard is the WR I'm most rooting for this TC. Abby or Janis has got to go for that to happen.

I wish somebody would ask McCarthy/Clement/Bennett/whoever straight out, why didn't Janis - who appeared to have so much ability, get so little use last season? If he is somehow damaged goods or an attitude problem, I'd like to know about it.

"Jarrett Boykin is ahead of Jeff Janis," McCarthy said, indicating the difference was clear-cut both at wide receiver and on special teams.

"Jeff made some big plays. Had a couple good returns. Caught some vertical balls.

"But a lot of this is new for him. He's gotten better, but I still have Jarrett significantly in front of him. Jarrett works his butt off. That's a tough role. He's doing great."

As a wise man said recently, something like winning is all that counts when it comes to coaching, but it sure seems like some fine tuning of both personnel decisions and game day decisions would maximize that winning even more for the Packers. This is more like for the "Coaching" thread, but Janis, to me, along with Jayrone Elliot, is a prime example of the Packers being where they are as much in spite of decision making as because of it.

I will go ahead and make a prediction right now: If Janis is given half a chance this year, he will SHINE as at very least, the Packers 3rd best receiver.

Ya gotta love MM...that guy who was "significantly" ahead of Janis is now playing for the Panthers...wasn't even tendered by us. Janis is still with us.
Mike McCarthy made a lot of flattering statements about Jarrett Boykin "as high on Jarrett as anyone in this building" ...must've meant the reporter and him who was asking the question not actual players at the Packers facility. Coach speak. OR...Janis really, really closed the gap on Jarrett only not enough to actually get on the field.

Janis has a special gear nobody else on our team possessed last season. Boykin ran like a 265lb TE.

There was one guy here who compared him to Alshon Jeffery and another who was just as high on him.

It's very easy now, in hindsight, to type a post like this...but where was it before his crappy season? I was a Boykin realist a long long time ago. I love Janis. His measurables were the rival of Julio Jones. There are few who come into the NFL with the full spectrum of measurables that JJ did. He displayed them at St. Louis. He was at a different level of anyone else on that field. Yup, pre-season vs. guys working at Home Depot now, but he wasn't just better than them, he was considerably better. I don't doubt he needed his time to adjust being from SVST...he's just a unique specimen who it's very hard not to be high on. I'm glad the middling Jarrett Boykin is gone so a potential superstar like Janis has a chance to shine.

Janis is better and was better talent wise just like Desmond Bishop was so much better than AJ Hawk. Do you honestly believe every single decision Mike McCarthy makes is correct because he's an NFL HC and I/we're not? Please. Rolle outplays Goodson by a long shot and gets cut last season. Those things happen.

I honestly don't see this depth at WR so many people are talk about. Right now I say we have two proven stud WR's (Nelson and Cobb.) Adams showed me enough last year that I have high hopes for him. He had a decent rookie campaign but not anything more than I've seen dozens of times around the league only to have the player fizzle. After that we have a bunch of guys that could all make the team or none make the team (although Montgomery would have to be absolute crap to not make it) As far as Janis, Abbredaris, White or any off the other WRs on the roster now it wouldn't surprise me if any of them made it or if any of them got cut. If these guys were on any other team, especially the Bears or the vikings, and their fans were bragging about how deep their WR group was we would be laughing at them and saying "who".

I think this offense is a lot tougher to pick up for a wr than people are giving it credit for. Just look at how long it took cobb and jordy to fully excel in it and those two seem pretty sharp by all accounts. Im not surprised evdn given his measureables that a guy like janis who ran like 2 routes in college didnt pick it up fast enough to earn some snaps. In gb the wrs need to know how to play all over the field, read coverages, and adjust routes accordingly. Im as excited about Janis as anybody but it might take the dude some time until hes ready.

dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still waiting on the kickoff rule changes. Did hear yesterday that the touchback proposal will now be the 30 yard line, not the 35
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Probably speed of game issues with your proposal
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Hopefully the refs don't get in the habit of throwing flags on this
beast (25-Mar) : I think when it comes to Challenges should get two strikes, so unlimited challenges as long as they keep winning them, but 2 wrong then done
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still subject to the fines etc
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Yes, I should have been more specific. Also, they are now saying it would be a 15 yard penalty. That makes more sense .
