"Barclay's a disaster," an NFL executive in personnel said. "You can't count on the guy. He can't handle an edge rusher.

"Seventy-nine (Walker) can be a real player. He's a little stiff and isn't polished, but he's a powerful guy and at least he's competitive."

That's cool, but I don't think he's ready yet at T. Wouldn't mind seeing him get some reps there, to see what we've got.

But, with three starters out against the Eagles, Walker will replace T.J. Lang at right guard, Lane Taylor will fill in for Josh Sitton at left guard and Barclay will be back on the left side for Bakhtiari.

Wait what? Because Barclay can't line up at G? Wtf.

Walker took over for Bryan Bulaga at right tackle late in the second quarter in Pittsburgh and spent the next 20 plays matched against former Kentucky outside linebacker Bud Dupree (6-4, 269), an athletic phenom with a 4.61 40 and a 42-inch vertical jump who was drafted with the 22nd pick in April.

"Me knowing I had a good player out there, it took some mental strength to get over that hump," Walker said. "I wasn't able to breathe at tackle (11 snaps) in the Patriots game. First real reps out there in competition."

Dupree emptied his arsenal on 17 pass plays, settled for one hurry and appeared somewhat frustrated. Walker kept shoving his edge rushes wide of Scott Tolzien. He also blotted out Dupree on a bull rush, adjusted nicely to handle a slashing inside charge and passed off an end-tackle stunt as if it was second nature.

Are they feeding us a story to calm the skeptics or can this kid really get it done?

I hope somebody emerges, and fast!
I certainly didn't like what I saw from the backups last Sunday.

The O line mostly succeeds or fails as a unit so it tends to be hard to pick out the bright spots. I tend to watch the ball, so I have no clue, but I trust the guys that watch the film. There has to be at least one backup of the O-line that has played well. This isn't the first time I heard Walker's name in a positive light, so here's hoping.

Remember when La'el Collins was available to be drafted and we didn't take a flyer on him. Yeah that sucked. 😢

There's got to be a journeyman tackle we can pick up in the next couple weeks! What we have is dog shit or very raw. I guess TJ Lang could go play right tackle and Bulaga left should Bahktiari go down. I hate the line shuffle, but you have to put the best five on the field.

Our backup line is really bad, again. I read Michael Rodney comment awhile ago that Mike McCarthy said we had a great 2nd unit and MR commented that for the first time in years Mike McCarthy wasn't lying. I'm hard pressed to think of one good backup OL much less 5. Josh Walker? I guess comparatively to the slop we've had there he looks good or better. Barclay ain't the same...Tretter might be serviceable....Walker, V, and who else? Rotherham because he's a big dude? Tretter be better than we think.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

I think we're letting some of the absolutely awful play we've seen on the o-line from a few guys effect how we view all the backups on the whole. I wouldn't jump to that conclusion so quickly. Still, if Bakh goes down or is ineffective, I don't feel great about his ability to be replaced right now. Maybe that will change in the next couple weeks...

Barclay's gotta improve big time or he's not going to make the final roster. He's got Allen Barbre ala 2009 written all over him right now, and guys like that don't last long of the final roster. If a guy like Walker can come in and play even mediocre, that's still better than what we've gotten so far from Barclay.

I wonder how much Aaron Rodgers will play in the next to last preseason game that they usually use as a sort of "dress rehearsal", considering all the backups who will be playing.

Walker looked good to me too, and obviously Barclay looked horrible. I would think the only way he makes the 53 is if seniority takes precedence over ability. Tretter, I think, played better last season than what I've seen of Barclay. I wonder why Barclay gets the start over him.

Finally getting to see last week's game. They put Walker in at LT with about 5:20 left in the third.

Looks pretty decent so far, couple of plays.
