Reaching back to his Kansas City Chiefs roots, Packers coach Mike McCarthy has chosen 23-year NFL coaching veteran Dave Redding to replace strength and conditioning coach Rock Gullickson, an NFL source said.

Redding was coach Marty Schottenheimer's strength coach for all but two years from 1982-'06, serving in Cleveland ('82-'88), Kansas City ('89-'98), Washington (2001) and San Diego ('02-'06). McCarthy was a quality control assistant and quarterbacks coach under Schottenheimer from 1993-'98 and has said many times that Schottenheimer has had a big influence on him.

McCarthy chose Redding over assistant strength coach Mark Lovat, who will remain on the staff in his current position. Mondray Gee will remain as strength and conditioning assistant.

Redding will continue much of the same free-weight techniques that Gullickson employed, but McCarthy's hope is that he will create a more comfortable environment for the players. Sources have said that McCarthy's main reason for replacing Gullickson was that he did not think players were responding well to the program and needed to make a change.

Well that and the fact that everyone seemed sluggish and injury prone last year except for the newbies.

I saw where it said veteran, and then I thought it said he was 23 years old...then I realized he has been a coach in the NFL for 23 years...haha I was like WTF?

Anyway, I don't know anything about him but I guess it's a good hire considering he's a veteran.

Why was he fired so many times, though?

The article indicated that he followed Schottenheimer for his entire career. Nothing about being sacked or anything.

God I'm loving the hires they've done so far. KEEP IT COMING!

We have to remember that this is McCarthy's first head coaching position. He seems to have absorbed some hard lessons early. I like the learning curve.

G.P.G.

Nothing here says he was fired.

Perhaps he was taking a positive career adjustment based on things like Freedom Of Creativity or based on the facility, and opportunities to do what he needs to do based on those Facilities.

From what I understand, the Packers have one of the best facilities for training in the NFL. If I was a S&C Coach I would certainly consider that in the opportunities I was presented.

Go Pack Go.... I too looked at it that way, when I first read the post. I just needed to sit back for a second and reconsider how I looked at the hire.

MEGATRON makes a great point... He has been loyal to Marty, and followed him.

Good Observation Meagatron.

Zero2Cool (1h) : Maybe this little shout has no value if people gonna use it instead of the forum.
Zero2Cool (1h) : He's not writing. He's shouting, and its making the shout kind of without point with the clutter.
buckeyepackfan (6h) : Just like last year at 4-6. The guy is just too funny!
buckeyepackfan (6h) : GOOD news Uffda is already all but writing The Packers off for 2017!
uffda udfa (10h) : Masturbation talk from Barfan? Nothing could make me COME back, quicker.
wpr (11h) : Maybe the shout box needs to take a timeout. People keep using it. ;)
Zero2Cool (12h) : Why do this is in shout? So frustrating. Post in forums. Thanks
Barfarn (12h) : Masterbation will relieve some of that nervous tension!
uffda udfa (14h) : Now, a guy they really liked and have groomed for 3 years is the guy. Tons of toys on O. Let's see how it runs with a great coach, now.
uffda udfa (14h) : The Flynn Patriots game has been used to say that he is. Seneca and Scott showed otherwise.
uffda udfa (14h) : Hundley is going to settle the debate once and for all in whether Mike McCarthy is a great coach, or not.
uffda udfa (14h) : Doesn't speak well to the talent acquired by the org, does it? Easy to say talent is great until Rodgers is gone and you have to see it wit
Porforis (14h) : Could Sam Bradford come into the Packers and post a winning record from here on out? Are there any non-starters in the NFL that could?
Zero2Cool (14h) : Teddy is replaceable. Aaron is not. Vikings have a really good defense. We do not. Understand??
Zero2Cool (14h) : You are wise enough to know the difference. Right?
uffda udfa (15h) : Here's one for you, Z. Vikes lose Teddy B. and go out and aggressively get Bradford. Packers lose 12 and go out and get a UDFA.
uffda udfa (15h) : :) Evans had a pre-draft visit with Packers.
Zero2Cool (16h) : Put it in a topic. My lord why so difficult lol

uffda udfa (16h) : Oh, Jerod Evans formerly of Va Tech is our Hokie QB plan
uffda udfa (16h) : Was previously on Eagles PS
uffda udfa (16h) : Tweeted the below due to huge chip on his shoulder for going undrafted after leaving early.
uffda udfa (16h) : Packers add Jerod Evans to PS. He went undrafted: https://twitter.com/rodfor6_/status/858382534274682884
Smokey (17h) : NO a 6 point favorite to beat the Packers in GB .
Zero2Cool (17-Oct) : Yes!!!!!

Zero2Cool (16-Oct) : I said that too. Why don't you quote me?? I'm famous!
uffda udfa (16-Oct) : @ProFootballDoc says Rodgers could return Week 14 at earliest, and surgery speeds up return timeline.
Zero2Cool (16-Oct) : McCarthy dropped a "bullshit" on packers.com stream. No delay apparently lol
Zero2Cool (16-Oct) : @AaronNagler One thing is crystal clear: McCarthy is pissed at the way his team played yesterday.
Smokey (16-Oct) : 2017 Packers are done , time to focus on the 2018 NFL Draft .
Zero2Cool (16-Oct) : Mike McCarthy says Aaron Rodgers "suffered a significant injury". Will require surgery. Potentially season could be over.
Zero2Cool (16-Oct) : McCarthy --Rodgers will have surgery. Potentially season is over.
Zero2Cool (16-Oct) : NaVaorro Bowman will get his full-year salary from the 49ers AND get another $3 million from the Raiders.
