Vernon Davis, the Tight End, can run the 40 yard dash faster than Jeff Janis, the wide receiver and any other player on the Packers offense.

The increasingly valuable tight-end position was as good as it gets for the Panthers and more than just functional for the Broncos. They will meet in Super Bowl 50 while the Packers watch, still without a suitable replacement 2½ years after losing Jermichael Finley.

Vernon Davis averaged 45.2 snaps in Games 9-14. However, since Peyton Manning returned from injury in Game 16, his playing time has been almost nonexistent (17 snaps). In 11 games, he has 20 receptions for 201 yards to go with a couple drops.

It would appear likely that the Broncos will let Davis walk as an unrestricted free agent and pick up a compensatory draft choice in 2017.

"I guess it has to do with Peyton being so complex," Davis said Thursday. "I make mistakes in practice. I just got here.

"I laugh at this stuff, man. I got about six, seven more years. I honestly feel my best days are ahead of me. I clocked in at 4.38 this off-season. Of course, I think I could have went there (Green Bay) and really contributed."

We won the SB without Finley and he wasn't on par with the best TEs today.

But then again, the best TE in the game today, with one of the best QBs to play the game will be watching the SB same was we will. back in 2010, Finley's injury almost cost us the SB because the game plan from training camp on had been tailored so much towards Finley that when he got hurt, we didn't have another TE who could fill that role and it took some weeks before the team was able to adjust to not having him. I'd take 5 good WR with an average TE any day.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

When we won the super bowl we had the benefit of an extremely good WR corp. That combined with excellent blocking WRs for screens and the like helped mask the lack of a dominant TE.

Janis actually ran low 4.3 but not at combine. There is stopwatch speed and electronic timed speed which is much more accurate. VD may have run 4.38 hand timed but I guarantee you he's not running that if he went back to the combine right now. Sad, sounds like he kinda wanted to help the Packers, but we really didn't need any!!!!! Geesh.

Found this little bit interesting on Janis from a predraft site (draftdiamonds.com):

Who was your favorite team and player in the NFL and why?

My favorite team in the NFL is the Lions, because they are from my state. My favorite player is Jordy Nelson because he does a lot of things so great, and know I could do the same.

---Earlier they asked him to compare himself to one player in the NFL. Of course, he chose Jordy Nelson. He did Jordy proud when finally given the op at AZ.

I think if we had a legit TE our odds of getting back to a SB would go way up like PFWT noted...I'll take 5 great WR's and an average TE, too. Would be easier to just get the great TE, though.

The one time I am going to pull away from Vic. I am definitely TE crazy and not ashamed of it. I was concerned about the position before the season started and nothing during the season changed my mind.

If he did the Packers would have more talented players at that position.
It's not like he hasn't had time to find one since Finley's departure.

I look at Olsen and I just wonder how great of a team we would be with a guy like him in the line-up. Denver with Davis and Daniels. Yes Gronk is not in the big game, but those are 3 great TEs playing tonight.

Oh, and he cost way too much...he wasn't available at the Dollar store.

All it would've cost is us taking the Niners 7th and give up our 6th...and then a 6th in 2017. So. we'd have to drop down from 27th in 6th round to draft 7th in Round 7th and a 6th the following season to have a guy who is... A BIG BODY...WHO...CAN...RUN DOWN THE SEAMS. Hmmm. Where have we heard that before? Oh, right, Mike McCarthy said that was the problem with the passing game this year. No big target that can run down the seam. Let's see Vernon Davis is BIG ...AND...can... RUN DOWN THE SEAM. It sounds to me putting two and two together that he was miffed Ted Thompson wouldn't add Vernon Davis but I could have it all wrong...that's just how it sounds.

Mucky Tundra (3-Apr) : Diggs, Collins, Dell and Schultz is gonna be tough to cover
Zero2Cool (3-Apr) : Stefon Diggs' trade will not be processed as a post-June 1 designation, so that is just over $31 million in dead cap this year.
Zero2Cool (3-Apr) : Bills trading WR Stefon Diggs to the Texans in exchange for a 2025 2nd-round pick. (via @rapsheet)
