Eddie Lacy isn't the only Packer trying to lose weight this offseason. Tight end Richard Rodgers is also slimming down. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Rodgers, who is listed at 257 pounds, was playing at 272 pounds last season. This offseason the Packers wanted him to lose weight. "He's been working with [Packers strength...

This is what he needs imo. Maybe they'll send him down the seam a little bit more if he demonstrates that he can actually run.

I noticed this too. We'll see if he comes back in better shape. He can be dangerous in this offense if he works hard enough.

If he was given some more space he MIGHT of been able get open a little more often and averaged 2 to 3 more yards per catch, which would have put him up their with Finley's 2nd year.

Not sure Richard Rodgers is ever going to be the star player some of you hope he becomes. I look at him more of a lunch pail type player, which is more realistic. It's a good thing Rodgers can bring down rain with his hail mary throws, otherwise RR wouldn't have made it to the goal line in Detroit.

You said it yourself, as did Dakota. He's dependent on others to create space for himself. I'm not trying to rip the guy apart, I just think we should temper our expectations of him.

I said I feel like he could have potentially put up Finley like numbers, if their was a deep threat to give him more one on ones and I truly believe it... BUT the way he's doing it is very different than Finley.

Finley had all the physical potential in the world... but honestly he seemed to rarely maximized that potential with drops and other errors, and at times not seeming to have Aaron full trust.... mean while Richard's has a lot less potential (so I didn't think he could come close to Finley) but last season Richard seemed to maximizing his number of catches with very few errors... and he failed to maximum his post catch running (which means there is still more potential there if he can stay consistent or maybe even improve his route/catch efficient, or get Safeties help further away from him)

As Dakota said, Richard is a lunch pail type, but if those lunch pail types are able to maximize their potential then they can be also be play makers for a period of time. I don't know if Richard will ever do that... but I'm hopeful he can keep up the quality of play he has shown and maybe get more one on ones if the outside WRs are able to pick it up.

Dropping some weight should help him move better.

But I'd like to see him develop as an inline blocker. If he's not a prototypical "pass catching TE," he needs to be able to assist in the run game.

In general, I like RR, but it seems he was part of the problem last year, as far as young players coming in without a pro attitude. Out of shape, not fully dedicated, whatever. Lacy wasn't the only one. Dude needs to get it together, and I think he will. But it remains to be seen.

It also remains to be seen what his ceiling could be.

He's not overall an awesome player or anything but he has extremely reliable hands and can catch the ball away from his body and with defenders all over him. He's always going to be a decent red zone threat because those attributes become more important down there when there is less space to work with. Cook has never been very good playing in close quarters/red zone situations so even if he ends up being a hit we are still going to be better off with both players as they will compliment each other well. I am interested in seeing how Rich rod moves with less weight though. He can be a decent player for sure.
