Ty may look the part of a RB but he isn't. The plays they called for him were not the same plays they called for Starks or Michael. If you are only going to look at his avg then let's say that Janis is the best rb because he has a 19 yd per carry avg.

Ty 5-6 times a game is fine. 15-20 times won't work.

Who cares about giving him 15-20 carries, we barely give Lacy 15-20 carries. The simple fact is our offense as a whole works better with Montgomery in the backfield than with anyone else on the team and probably better than with anyone else we could possibly acquire. If you wanna punch it up the gut use RIP but even if we use Monty differently (from other guys) he's still effective and that's what matters. Some of those extra runs with Monty are just substituted with short quick passes which have been effective so big deal. If Michael comes on a bit and picks up the playbook then good, between him Monty and RIP we've got a solid backfield but focusing the offense around having Monty in the backfield has so far had very good results.

I do not mind Ty being in the backfield. He can start the game and line up back their for 45-50 plays for all I care.

They can give him screens, draws and short passes by the dozens. All well and good.

My point is just because he is big and strong, just because he is by far the best athlete they have that they can stick back there DOESN'T MAKE HIM A RB.

That doesn't mean I don't want to see him touch the ball 20 times a game.

All I have ever said is the typical RB lives between the tackles. While Monty can do that for 2-3 plays a game I would much rather see him get outside on runs. (no more than 5 or 6 in a game.) I would rather see him block a pass rusher and then sneak across the LOS for Aaron to dump the pass off to him. I would rather see him get a screen out in the flats. Those types of plays will serve him and the Packers better than having him run behind the LG and C for 2 or 3 yards.

Lacy and other true (prototypical) RBs would could follow their G/C for the 3 yards and then hammer away another 3-4 yards with 2 or 3 defenders hanging on them breaking one on occasion.

With decent blocking we could pound him up the middle on power runs with some success because he's shown good balance and tackle breaking ability and he certainly finishes runs HARD but that type of running doesn't really take advantage of his strengths, we can use Michael and RIP on those types of runs.

It's not like he's been out there going down easy on contact and only being elusive with his feet like you would see from a WR. I don't know man go back and watch some of his stuff from this year (or even last year when he took Richard Sherman off his feet), he finishes his runs like a RB as far as I can tell. How many WRs do you see just trucking guys like that.

If we were talking Trevor Davis, I could understand, but it's Ty Montgomery. Dude is a shit brick house and he's been practicing the RB position MOST of the season and has been getting carries and doing a damn good job. What's there to bitch about? (no worries, someone will find SOMETHING)

Some folks need to understand this isn't the 50's anymore. Get with the times jethro! hahhaha

On a serious note, can we complain about Lane Taylor or Jake Schum (sp) in this thread?

Show me when I have ever said he would fall down like a 175 pound smurf type WR or worse yet run out of bounds to avoid contact giving up 5 yards. Show me where I said he can't hit hard like a RB. He can but the plays where they treat him like that type of RB are few and far between. They don't run him up the middle 6 plays in a row for 2 first downs.

I think TM does great in the back-field but IMO he is too valuable to run the ball that much; like his trick plays or options or reverses or short pass plays or slants; things that require muscle and speed; not just muscle.

You can call him a punter for all I care, He runs good, catches good, and the offense is more potent when he is playing in this role.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

Zero2Cool (8h) : I hope they take a Punter at 9th overall. Be bold!
Mucky Tundra (8h) : I may end up eating those words but I think they need a lot more talent then their 4 picks can provide

Mucky Tundra (23-Apr) : is Aiyuk worth a 1st rounder?
Zero2Cool (23-Apr) : 49ers are seeking a 1st round pick in exchange for WR Brandon Aiyuk
Mucky Tundra (22-Apr) : Based on Gutes comments, now I don't feel as silly having 13 picks in my mock the other day
Zero2Cool (22-Apr) : Zach Wilson to Broncos.
Zero2Cool (22-Apr) : Gutekunst says he'd love to have 13 or 14 picks. He's trading back huh lol
beast (22-Apr) : Someday we'll have a draft betting scandal
beast (21-Apr) : Sometimes looking extremely amazing, sometimes looking extremely lost
beast (21-Apr) : I haven't looked into the QBs, but some have suggested Maye has some of the most extremely inconsistent tape they've seen
beast (21-Apr) : Well it also sounds like Patriots are listening to trade offers, not that seriously considering any, but listening means they aren't locked
Zero2Cool (21-Apr) : Maye needs to be AFC
Mucky Tundra (21-Apr) : Not liking the idea of the Vikings getting Maye
Zero2Cool (21-Apr) : Vikings HC joked that he may or may not have sent flowers to Bob Kraft. That's where rumor came from.
beast (21-Apr) : Can't tell if this is real or BS, but some rumors about a possible Patriots/Vikings trade for #3 overall
dfosterf (21-Apr) : One playbook to my knowledge. I was shooting for facetious.
beast (20-Apr) : I'm not sure they have different playbooks for different OL positions, and Dillard run blocking is supposedly worse than his pass blocking..
dfosterf (19-Apr) : The only problem with that is he isn't a guard either.
dfosterf (19-Apr) : Put him at right guard. That is where he will be coached. That is where he will compete. He is not even allowed to look at the LT playbook.
dfosterf (18-Apr) : Kidding aside, I hope the best for him.
dfosterf (18-Apr) : Went to a Titans board. One comment there. Not very long. I quote: "LOL" They don't sound overly upset about our aquisition.
beast (18-Apr) : OT Dillard has been absolutely horrible... like OG Newman levels
dfosterf (18-Apr) : Suit him up and have him stand in front of the big board as a draft day cautionary tale.
