Just before his HOF pass to Cook, much has been said about how Rodgers held onto the ball on that sack and rightly so. Grip and grip strength is something Rodgers works on diligently as part of his fastidious preparation.

But my question is this: How could Rodgers not know where the second safety was?

This is a guy who knows where the D players are as they substitute. Forget the stats, no QB has ever approached Rodgers’ ability as it pertains to the cerebral part of QB play. Given his decent throwing and scrambling abilities it is in the execution of his cerebral football acumen brilliance that allows Rodgers to stand alone as the unequivocal QB GOAT. His fastidious film prep and ability to reads defenses and ability to anticipate what a D is doing is like no other. It is his MENTAL fastidious [look that word up] attention to detail that provides for his accuracy. On the last throw he sets 2 times on scramble; watch this play in slowmo Rodgers’ somehow on the run arranges his body in perfect throwing form on the throw to Cook. This is why the throw seems so unbelievable because all other QBs throw on the run; Rodgers throw standing still in the pocket while he’s moving. EVERYTHING that makes Rodgers great emanates from his fastidious mental preparation.

But, on this play, he doesn’t know where the 2nd safety is. It is inexplicable. Hundley and Callahan wouldn’t have made that Cook throw; but they would have at least known where that 2nd safety was.

Monty was set to his right; Rodgers could have moved Monty to left side, because Bak and Taylor were outnumbered or if Rodgers’ knows Dallas’ tendency to threaten blitz and drop the safety he at least has to account for dropping back, or if the safety comes Rodgers needs to roll right.

The single thing that separates good crunch time players from not so, in any sport is the ability to not change the approach taken when it is not crunch time. If Mason’s thinking is about the moment instead of the mechanics of his job; his accuracy will drop precipitously.

After the game Wilde asked Rodgers about his emotions on final drive; Rodgers said, "I was thinking about on that last drive just thinking about my breathing and trying to steady that," Rodgers said. "I felt good. I felt very calm, and I was very positive in the huddle and felt like we were going to go down and score."

This is why Aaron grabs for the collar in big moments; he changes his approach at crunch time. He has to, among other things, work to control his breathing; he’s thinking of this instead of locating the 2nd safety. This is why the 1st pick in 391 passes was thrown at the time it was. This is why the drive to end the game resulted in a FG instead of a run out the clock score. This is why the D has been required to close out all but 2 of Rodgers’ playoff wins. And the D closed out this one, by stopping Dallas for FG and leaving time on the clock.

This also provides the answer to the question of another thread: Belichek would have less rings if Rodgers was his QB [even though Rodgers is better than Brady].

This is a Lambeau LEAP.

A guy working on his breathing doesn't mean he's not aware of what's going on. He could've just as easily had that happen during the 2nd quarter of any regular season game.

What player doesn't "choke" occasionally on some plays here and there? These aren't gods we are talking about. He is, ultimately, just another guy. He just happens to be very very good at football.

I think that was a brilliant post.
You have to wonder why Rodgers has been so shaky in the 4th quarter in his career, it is clear something happens, something is different. While he can and will make incredible plays I agree he also loses awareness, he plays in a blur.

This is a most interesting topic. The guy pulls off one of the most incredible plays in playoff history and he choked?

To me, had he not controlled his breathing and we didn't get into range I could see your point. Or.. are you saying he choked on one play and not the next?

Yes, he did was brilliant in the last play the one that counted the most but check his throws from the interception and you will see how he changed.

Let's hope he's not in a downward spiral now. I think the last throw got back whatever he lost in the bad INT to Heath. The non interception was an even worse throw but I think he was trying to throw it away.

If Rodgers gets off his game due to the moment being too big I can't wait to see how Ryan reacts.

Where exactly does Rodgers admit to choking? ... because it seems like the the subject line choked when it came to finding evidence of Rodgers admitting that he choked.

As to the question of why did that blitzer fool Rodgers so easily ... I read on one of Uffda's links to a Cowboys blog, one Cowboys fan suggested that blitzer was successful because they rarely blitz him and he disguise it very well, while hammering their normal blitzing DB was clearly showing when he was going to blitz through out the game, tipping it away before the snap.

Sounds like a change up caught Rodgers off guard more than a choke.

Wasting time worrying if Jeff freaking Heath got free vs. keeping your eyes down field to make a play as time is running out seems reasonable to me. I gotta believe he knew it was possible he might get hit like that or he would've coughed it up like he did last time vs these guys.

dfosterf (20h) : Does anyone know what Lambeau field improvements got put on hold? My guess would be for the 2025 draft
Zero2Cool (22h) : It's like listen, you made 4,201 mocks, no shit.
Zero2Cool (22h) : Cuz during the draft "I had them mocked there!" as if it's amazing.
Zero2Cool (22h) : They're fun to do once in awhile. It's people who think they are "content" that annoy me.
dfosterf (22h) : Against tbd
dfosterf (22h) : Answer to your question is yes, it's a Thursday, will be the Chiefs aga
dfosterf (22h) : Luckily for all concerned, I don't post them. I did one, but that was like 25 mocks ago
Zero2Cool (22h) : NFL 2024 gonna start Sept 5th isn't it???

dfosterf (23h) : In my city, they are playing the nimby game, in order to keep some railroad tracks vs. 2 professional sports teams and a concert venue.
dfosterf (23h) : And/Or a city council, of which I haven't seen a good one in a very long time
dfosterf (23h) : That sounds like a Mayor, not a city.

Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Shouldn't be penalized cuz official screwed up
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Yeah, challenge until you are incorrect twice.
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Fining them is the goal, per the people who made the rule anyway.
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still waiting on the kickoff rule changes. Did hear yesterday that the touchback proposal will now be the 30 yard line, not the 35
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Probably speed of game issues with your proposal
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Hopefully the refs don't get in the habit of throwing flags on this
beast (25-Mar) : I think when it comes to Challenges should get two strikes, so unlimited challenges as long as they keep winning them, but 2 wrong then done
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still subject to the fines etc
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Yes, I should have been more specific. Also, they are now saying it would be a 15 yard penalty. That makes more sense .
beast (25-Mar) : Simply fined in the week to follow
beast (25-Mar) : I agree with one NFL official, it'll probably be like some of the helmets hits, not really called by the refs on the field but simply fined
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Hip drop is not. Super confusing. Referees job is harder
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Swivel hip drop is banned
dfosterf (25-Mar) : The hip drop enforcement will be in the form of fines, etc. Not flags
dfosterf (25-Mar) : A major foul will be enforced on the offense if there are offsetting penalties in a change of possession situation
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Teams will receive a 3rd challenge if 1 was successful. Previously, it took 2
