We take a guess at how the initial depth chart looks for the Packers leading up to week one. The roster craziness has finally died down around the NFL, and most teams’ 53-man rosters are pretty well set for week one of the 2017 season. The Packers  made two swaps of players on the 53 on Sunday, trading away Jayrone Elliott  to make room for Chris Odom  — claimed off waivers from the Falcons  — and moving Don Barclay  to injured reserve to finally sign Ahmad Brooks .
With those moves finally locked in, we can get a clearer picture of the way the depth chart will shake out for the Packers in their week one game against the Seattle Seahawks .
First up is the offense, in which we break out the three wide receiver positions separately. With Geronimo Allison suspended for the first week, the team is a little thinner than usual at the wideout spot, as he would likely slot in behind Davante Adams  at the X.

Moving over to the defense, we project both the three-man line on the (rare) occasions that the Packers line up in a base defense, as well as the cornerback unit in a more typical nickel formation. Although the Packers’ official website lists Quinten Rollins  as the starter over Damarious Randall  at the right cornerback spot, Rollins has again been lining up in the slot with Randall  on the boundary when the team uses five defensive backs.

Finally, we look at the specialists, including the kick and punt return spots. The pecking order appears pretty clear on punt returns, after Quinten Rollins  substituted in for Trevor Davis  in the final preseason game.

~ Adams and Ringo are both 3T like Daniels.
~ Jean-Fancois currently probably is top back-up at both NT and 5T.

~ I don't know the CBs order (yet)... but if Rollins is a top CB, then I want him off return duties.

Sounds like Brooks and Odom are here to play the elephant OLB position, replacing Peppers and Datone, whom played those roles last year.

Aside from having two new faces, the most obvious change to the outside linebacker unit is an increase in size. At 6-3 and 259 pounds, Brooks serves as a median between starters Clay Matthews (6-3, 255) and Nick Perry (6-3, 265), whose strength to set the edge is far greater than that of Kyler Fackrell and the departed Jayrone Elliott. In that regard the Packers swapped speed and finesse for power and brute strength.

“(San Francisco) moved him all over the place, particularly when (defensive coordinator) Vic Fangio was there,” McCarthy said. “They played him off the ball in the goal line. He’s played more the elephant assignment-wise in our scheme. Has played the outside linebacker position. So I think he’s a heck of a player. He’s someone that I’ve always had a lot of respect for. I thought him and Bryan Bulaga have had some great battles over the years.”

That kind of versatility might also apply to Odom, who will wear jersey No. 98. Though he is listed at 6-4 and 262 pounds, Odom looked far thicker in his debut practice Monday afternoon, especially through the lower body. His frame lends itself to the hybrid elephant position played by Julius Peppers and Datone Jones in recent years — a player with the speed and athleticism to play standing up and the durability to move inside as a sub-package rusher.

dfosterf (27-Mar) : And/Or a city council, of which I haven't seen a good one in a very long time
dfosterf (27-Mar) : That sounds like a Mayor, not a city.

Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Yeah, challenge until you are incorrect twice.
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Fining them is the goal, per the people who made the rule anyway.
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still waiting on the kickoff rule changes. Did hear yesterday that the touchback proposal will now be the 30 yard line, not the 35
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Probably speed of game issues with your proposal
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Hopefully the refs don't get in the habit of throwing flags on this
beast (25-Mar) : I think when it comes to Challenges should get two strikes, so unlimited challenges as long as they keep winning them, but 2 wrong then done
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still subject to the fines etc
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Yes, I should have been more specific. Also, they are now saying it would be a 15 yard penalty. That makes more sense .
