EDIT: It was first reported that the Packers were released DT Ricky Jean Francois

NOW... it's being reported that they're releasing CB LaDarius Gunter (for WR Allison) and did NOT release Jean Francois (at least not yet)

DT Ricky Jean-Francois released to call up G/T Adam Pankey from the PS

===========================

Well this is surprising DT Ricky Jean-Francois is released (my guess for WR Allison).

This is breaking news. Please refresh for updates. The Packers evidently have not preferred the work Ricky Jean-Francois gave them during his 2017 stay in Green Bay. The team released the veteran defensive lineman, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets.

He only played 6 snaps I guess Adams is getting healthy and they like Dial more so we don't need an overload of DL.

Yeah I'm surprised. 9 OL and 7 CBs but only 5 DL...
I guess they really like McCray, Patrick, Gunter and Pipkins,

I'm also surprised by the move by keeping a vet on the roster for week 1, the vet can get their complete year salary still... (which might go on the cap). So it might not be saving the Packers much in cap space.

My friend is telling me Gunter was cut too. My guess is Allison and Ringo (who was cut by the Bengals) are back on the roster soon.

Gunter was cut for Allison

Reports now are saying Francois has NOT be released (at least not yet)

If RJF is or will be cut...

Cincy claimed Ringo on Waivers and they're #9, GB is #29. Not sure Ringo will make it #29. If he gets claimed,he'll be released and eventually he'll make it to our P Squad.

Also, Brooks is in concussion protocol; because we are not Seattle, not sure Brooks plays in Atl. They may have claimed one or are working out a deal with an OLB. I can think of an ex-Viking who could step right in if he's healthy.

It would be weird to keep RJF (over Ringo), which guarantees him his entire salary (for being a vet on the roster for week 1), just to release him for Ringo in week two.

Datone has an injury settlement, and his agent probably tried to get as many weeks of that settlement because they wanted that expensive money. Anyways he can't sign with any team until the injury settlement is up, which we don't know how many weeks that is, but he's suppose to be healthy, by the end of the settlement.

If we brought an OLB in at this point, I'm thinking it would be Gilbert or a non-Packers vet (Dwight Freeney or someone).

I was just wondering about the OLB slot. Having only Fackrell behind Perry and Matthews is untenable in my opinion. I'd be more than happy to see the old spinner Freeney in Green and Gold.

IN 2015 our BU preseason OL was Vujonivich, Walker, Tretter, Taylor, Barclay. 3 are starters, Barclay has started and Walker is 9th OL in Jax. Many thought Taylor [or Walker] would be cut. I thought both were in the top 53 and both were kept on roster.

This is a shock! I dont know why they signed RJF in the 1st place; but you can never have enough CBs. Pankey for Gunter; never would have guessed that in a million years. They must feel comfy with Odom as #4 for a few games, I guess they could put Ryan or Thomas out there as well. Maybe someone offered Pankey a roster spot; I gotta go watch him again.

I think letting RJF and Gunter go is probably more to do with guys like Hawkins and Lowry showing up better than expected though RJF I still don't get because we guaranteed him his base salary by having him on the roster. It seems like if he was that close to the end of the roster you would have just cut him to begin with and kept Ringo or something. I'm guessing they really like Dial or were just doing the vet a favor.

I don't remember thinking much of Pankey but Spriggs did leave the game Sunday because of a hamstring. I don't like how it looks for Bulaga though. What exactly is Patrick doing on the team if we need Pankey so much then? He isn't active on gameday so they don't see him as the top guy to back up C or G and Murphy/Spriggs are the guys at T.

Bulaga might still be on the shelf and Spriggs got hurt against the Seahawks. If Brian and Spriggs can't go Sunday against the Falcons, Pankey is your backup to Murphy at RT.

This might also explain why Hundley did so well in 2015. Good OL blocking.

I think RJF was signed to be a versatile #4 if they didn't get anyone else. Then they drafted Adams and got Dial.

Yeah 5 OT seems like a lot. But Pankey did finish among the better pass blockers in one on one drills

And during week 1 there was a number of struggling OL, I can't help but wonder if some other teams might of been sniffing another for another OL to add, especially with some questioning if Spriggs is 100% because I guess he left the game with a hamstring injury?

I agree, if they knew this was coming I might of kept Ringo the extra week instead, so I'm guessing they didn't know.

Maybe they are going to bring RJF back once Spriggs/Bulaga are healthy. Since he's a vet he won't go to waivers and since they already paid him maybe he agreed to stick around and come back.

packerfanoutwest (4-Jun) : Tavais or Tyrell,,,what's your question/point and why?
Nonstopdrivel (3-Jun) : Probably I was thinking about Tyrell Sutton (Northwestern -- went to the Panthers).
Nonstopdrivel (3-Jun) : Apparently, I'm full of shit. The amount of money teams are allowed to spend on UDFA signing bonuses is extremely small.
Nonstopdrivel (3-Jun) : He's not named in any list of 2012 Green Bay UDFA signings, I mean.
Nonstopdrivel (3-Jun) : I don't think that's the player. I don't recognize the name, and he's not listed on any news article from 2012.
