I'm in full agreement. I cringe watching them stretch and don't know how they don't pull more muscles. I used to stretch for at least 30 minutes before martial arts practice. You have to take that shit seriously.

What do you guys mean by "stretch?"

If you're talking about the stretching we were taught 30 years ago; no one does that anymore before competition.

It has been found to reduce performance of the muscles in the short term as well as lead to injury because of the strain put on the muscles where they attach.

I haven't watched it that closely; but GB better not have their guys bend in a way that the body cant do thru its own natural movement several hours before any competitive play or drills.

...anyways it doesnt take a rocket scientist to know what the pack is doing as far as their warming up/stretching is not working.

Now with more and more substitution packages players are not playing every snap. A guy is begging for injury by stretching before the game, then siting on his dead ass for 30 minutes then, then uses max exertion for 5-7 seconds w/1 minute rest between for 2-3-4 plays; then sits on his dead ass for 20 minutes, then max exerting for a few more plays; then sits on his dead ass for an hour thru half time and then max exertion...Especially guys that only play STs.

If kickers didn't "warm-up" the entire game and try to get 5-6 kicks in before each kick; there's not one that'd make it thru the season. The human body just doesn't react well going from zero to hundred.

If I'm coach when the O is on the field for 20-30 minutes every defender and the O guys not playing will be low impact movements for half that time they're not on field. Making certain not to tire the muscles; but keeping blood flowing to them. Just standing on the side line and twisting, swinging arms, leg lifts, etc a couple of times every 2-3 minutes will keep blood constantly flowing to the muscles. IMO this would reduce injury and enhance performance.

Uffda...call you boys at Packers.com and have them ask Mike McCarthy why his players are allowed to sit on their dead asses/stand like statues when they're not in the game.

You all have to remember most of these guys have their own personal trainers and different Warm up "stretching" routines they use. This isn't high school where the team lines up and does jumping jacks and toe touches together. Stretching "flexibility" is something they do year round, before a game what they are doing is not stretching, it is mostly some movements designed to get the body and muscle groups warm.

The team strength and conditioning guy isn't going to do much for the "stars" of the team as they have their own guys. They might help the young guys some but they all know their bodies better than anybody else.

I also think the Packers play it a little safer when dealing with injuries than other teams. I wonder how many of these injuries they might have been able to play through If they would be given the choice.

Hard to say they are half-assing their routines when none of you know what their routines are in the first place. "Stretching" in sports today is nothing like it was when we were young, most of what we did was not what was best for us.

During a game, we constantly see players walking up and down the sideline slapping asses with other players and coaches. And most people look and say how they are trying to keep the team "fired up", when in reality what they are doing is keeping their muscles warm.

Always amazing watching couch experts acting like they know more than actual professionals.

So,.... take that couch, shine up reeaaaal nice, turn it sideways and shove it up your expert ass!

(I say that joking and not serious at all, just a The Rock reference is all. I do know where you're coming from, unlike what you're willing to offer me.)

I guess Bahktiari and Daniels are just a couple of slackers who don't care, didn't "stretch" and injured their hammies. Sure their couldn't be another reason.

I also wouldn't say Daniels, nor Bahktiari don't care either. I believe they do.

If you are doing the same stretch/warm-up over and over and over again, you lose the effectiveness of the stretch/warm-up. You need muscle confusion.

The hamstring injuries I heard could come from dehydration too.

I wouldn't be surprised to see pulled muscles from losing footing, or stepping on someones foot while you plant and push off either. Lots of ways you can pulls muscles.

My musing about half-ass stretching wasn't aimed to say 100% stretch effort makes rainbows fly out of an elephants butt. It was an observation and a musing. Let's stop trying to make it more than that. Thank you.
