When you punch in the number with the 931 area code, you know you're calling Alvin Jones Jr. But unless you're using the FaceTime video calling app, you could be easily convinced it's Aaron Jones on the other end.

They're twins. But they're fraternal, not identical. You wouldn't know it by their voices, though. They sound the same. They laugh the same. They repeat the same familiar, "Yes sir, no sir" that comes from their military family background.

"Sometimes my mom, if she doesn't look down at the caller ID, she'll say, 'Hey Alvin,'" Aaron said. "And I'll have to say, 'Mom, this is Aaron.'"

It's kind of interesting that they are twins and one of them is in the NFL and the other may not get drafted or even stick as a UDFA next year.

I don't think it's rare for one twin to be a lot better than the other twin.

Malik Jackson had over 20 sacks in his first 5 seasons as a DT and his twin brother Marquis can only get Vikings and Bears training camp, but can't get on the PS. Plays in the CFL.

While neither of them were drafted, the Packers had both Justin and Jordan McCray. Packers wanted them both for training camp... but Justin was the more sought after/better one, and reportedly got an higher offer Titans (and later the brothers said they didn't want to compete for spots against each other). But Justin has played a lot better than Jordan... though it's a bit unfair as Jordan was a rookie and Justin got some NFL training with other teams before joining the Packers but still.

In high school we had a set of twins on the football team... one could argue he was the best OL on the team (also a clear bully), while the other was a very funny, very nice 6'6" TE.... who couldn't catch a ball to save his life.... (seriously in practice a coach was offering him free stuff (soda, $5, pizza, etc) if he caught the next pass... and he dropped every single one of them.

But that's partly what makes the successful twin stories in the NFL so interesting as it rarely seem to happen. I've read there are 12 sets of twins that have played in the NFL.

Ronde Barber, Tiki Barber
Brian Dixon, Brandon Dixon
Devin McCourty, Jason McCourty
Maurkice Pouncey, Mike Pouncey
Bill Saul,Rich Saul and Ron Saul

Rex Ryan, Rob Ryan

I'm not sure if the Ryans count, as I think the 12 sets were talking about players.

I have a set of twin sons, and they have next to nothing in common when it comes to what one might term physical potential. And that's not even getting into the differences in their motivation, discipline, and drive. So I can find this very believable.

Ya can't assume anything.

Ironically I have identical twin uncles. They were very similar but one was clearly the better athlete. Both ran cross country but one was clearly the stronger runner by about 30-40 seconds in a 3 mile race. Some may not think that a lot but in a state finals race it is huge. One went on to become a priest. The other headed to Korea and later married and bought a farm. Vast difference in their mindset even if people who weren't family members couldn't tell them apart. When I was a kid I use to laugh when people said they didn't know who was who because I didn't think it was very hard to tell them apart.

I think the part that is interesting is when we do a test we have to have a baseline. The baseline here is twins being raised in a similar fashion yet one might have a good NFL career while the other does not. What we don't know is if the Packers opportunity would have been for the other twin. Maybe the other twin would have been even better?
