Interesting to see the above headline. I checked spotrac...looks like 12 can opt out of his contract at end of season.

There's no way he's playing this year short of getting his extension beforehand and he may not even want to do that.

Starting to wonder if he was bummed, his prior to being drafted by the Packers, favorite team traded for Garoppolo? Perhaps, he was hoping to go home after this season?

As hole filled as this team is, Aaron Rodgers could blind to that reality by being the biggest off the field story in the same way he covers warts during the season. I hope this potential coming major focus on 12s contract doesn't distract from the multiple pressing needs this team has.

EDIT: If 12 was to opt out would that be a sign there are actually significant issues within the organization? Would that be a sign to those who think not blowing it up is best that maybe it should've been blown up a long time ago?

Are you sure the "Potential out 2018" after the 2017 refers to Rodgers and not the packers. Since they specifically mention 0 in dead cap I thought they may mean the Packers could get out of it with nothing on the books. You may be right but I'm still not sure. I've seen contracts for some players (can't recall who exactly) where it specifically said so and so has an opt out clause. Of course its seems to be a new format for the site so it may just be me not reading it right.

Spotrac seems to have that for every veteran who's not in a contract year. So unless Rodgers, Crosby, Nelson, Cobb, Bennett, Kendricks, Matthews, Perry, many more... all have an options after the 2017, then I think it's a poorly worded item for spotrac and not really an option.

Also do NFL teams use players options, where players can opt out?
I know they sometimes use team options, where teams can opt out if they choose so.

I immediately looked over at Spotrac.com and saw the opt out verbiage and thought there was enough there to make a thread out of it. I added the question mark in the subject line because I wasn't 100% sure.

For me, I was just going to sit back and see how long it was until we got word on extension talks taking place. Why wouldn't he be extended by now? His injury may play a role in all of this, too. I could actually see our management trying to save a few shekels by bringing up his injury. I wouldn't want to be the one dealing with these negotiations.

Hopefully, one of us can find something to verify or debunk the idea that he can opt out at the end of the season. As was noted above, in a sense, it's the club that usually holds the option and has the right to exercise it, or not.

All this means is the entirety of the $33.25 million signing bonus paid to Rodgers in 2013 has been counted against the cap after 2017.

The total amount of any signing bonus shall be prorated over the term of the Player Contract (on a straight-line basis, unless subject to acceleration or some other treatment as provided in this Agreement), with a maximum proration of five years

So his base salary increases dramatically next year, but there is no more "dead money" (uncounted signing bonus) for a team to worry about if the team wanted to go in a different direction. This only comes up with contracts that are longer than 5 years, obviously.

dfosterf (27-Mar) : Does anyone know what Lambeau field improvements got put on hold? My guess would be for the 2025 draft
Zero2Cool (27-Mar) : It's like listen, you made 4,201 mocks, no shit.
Zero2Cool (27-Mar) : Cuz during the draft "I had them mocked there!" as if it's amazing.
Zero2Cool (27-Mar) : They're fun to do once in awhile. It's people who think they are "content" that annoy me.
dfosterf (27-Mar) : Against tbd
dfosterf (27-Mar) : Answer to your question is yes, it's a Thursday, will be the Chiefs aga
dfosterf (27-Mar) : Luckily for all concerned, I don't post them. I did one, but that was like 25 mocks ago

dfosterf (27-Mar) : And/Or a city council, of which I haven't seen a good one in a very long time
dfosterf (27-Mar) : That sounds like a Mayor, not a city.

Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Gutekunst said early stages of Jordan Love contract being discussed.
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Shouldn't be penalized cuz official screwed up
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Yeah, challenge until you are incorrect twice.
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Fining them is the goal, per the people who made the rule anyway.
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still waiting on the kickoff rule changes. Did hear yesterday that the touchback proposal will now be the 30 yard line, not the 35
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Probably speed of game issues with your proposal
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Hopefully the refs don't get in the habit of throwing flags on this
beast (25-Mar) : I think when it comes to Challenges should get two strikes, so unlimited challenges as long as they keep winning them, but 2 wrong then done
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still subject to the fines etc
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Yes, I should have been more specific. Also, they are now saying it would be a 15 yard penalty. That makes more sense .
