Doesn't explain why he's missing so damn many tackles. He's also missed two interceptions (maybe more, I remember two specifically). I'm very disappointed with Clinton-Dix this season. Just because you got a popularity vote, aka, Pro Bowl, doesn't mean you skate the rest of your career.

"Look. I want you guys to look," the safety says. "I'm around the ball and the quarterback is not coming my way. That's just the bottom line."

“If you guys just come up [to the film room] and watch me and watch where I’m at, where you think the ball’s supposed to be going, and it’s not going there. There’s a reason why it’s not going there,” Clinton-Dix said. “I’m telling you, I’m sitting on everything. I’m getting everything that comes my way.”

A review of every pass play from Sunday’s 31-28 loss at Pittsburgh -- all 46 of Ben Roethlisberger’s attempts -- all but confirms that not much has come his way. He had two realistic chances to make plays on the ball. One, the two-point play to Antonio Brown, was Clinton-Dix’s play to break up, but Brown squeezed past him for the conversion. The other was Brown’s 39-yard catch and run in the second quarter. Clinton-Dix, playing deep like he did most of the game, came from the opposite side of the field and either took a poor angle or overran the play.

In my humble opinion, Dix tries to avoid physical contact as much as he can.
May be they don't throw at him much, but probably because he plays so deep and retreats deeper at the snap of the ball.
Granted he's the deep safety but I'm certainly not impressed.
I think he's highly overrated.

A lot of this comes down to, where was he supposed to be and what was his assignment. If he is playing deeper than the scheme calls for that would be an issue, if the scheme wants him deep then he needs to play deep. He is the last line of defense, often free safeties are taught and told their job is not necessarily to make the tackle, but to make suer others defenders can catch-up and help.

I would need to look at specific plays to really judge. I do say if the scheme always has HaHa away from the play, the scheme probably needs to be adjusted.

Dix is a pretty piss poor last line of defense.
I would want my last line of defense to be a fast vicious tackler.
Dix is neither!

HaHa isn't Ed Reed, he isn't Darren Sharper, he isn't Nick Collins, but if we go back and look, the Nick Collins we remember wasn't the same Nick Collins in his first 3 years.

Your last line of defense needs to be an accurate tackler, let the SS and LBers be the vicious tacklers... as if their vicious hits (which normally include failing to wrap up) fails to get the offensive player down... you want the last line of defense to wrap up to make sure they get that guy down.

And normally when Dix completely misses a tackle, it's because he's being aggressive attacking underneath (where guys are behind him) as he goes for the vicious tackle and the ball carrier makes a move to make him miss.

I'm surely NOT saying Dix is great, but he usually plays smart and hard, which is what most coaches seem to want from a FS and last line of defense.

Dix is soft and mostly avoids tackling.

However there might be some truth to what Dix is saying if Capers scheme has him playing deep last line of defense style then he can only play how the coach wants.

Whether he is right or wrong, he is still the most overrated player on our team

Zero2Cool (23-Apr) : 49ers are seeking a 1st round pick in exchange for WR Brandon Aiyuk
Mucky Tundra (22-Apr) : Based on Gutes comments, now I don't feel as silly having 13 picks in my mock the other day

beast (21-Apr) : I haven't looked into the QBs, but some have suggested Maye has some of the most extremely inconsistent tape they've seen
beast (21-Apr) : Well it also sounds like Patriots are listening to trade offers, not that seriously considering any, but listening means they aren't locked
Zero2Cool (21-Apr) : Maye needs to be AFC
Mucky Tundra (21-Apr) : Not liking the idea of the Vikings getting Maye
Zero2Cool (21-Apr) : Vikings HC joked that he may or may not have sent flowers to Bob Kraft. That's where rumor came from.
beast (21-Apr) : Can't tell if this is real or BS, but some rumors about a possible Patriots/Vikings trade for #3 overall
dfosterf (21-Apr) : One playbook to my knowledge. I was shooting for facetious.
beast (20-Apr) : I'm not sure they have different playbooks for different OL positions, and Dillard run blocking is supposedly worse than his pass blocking..
dfosterf (19-Apr) : The only problem with that is he isn't a guard either.
dfosterf (19-Apr) : Put him at right guard. That is where he will be coached. That is where he will compete. He is not even allowed to look at the LT playbook.
dfosterf (18-Apr) : Kidding aside, I hope the best for him.
