I read a snippet of this and took it as Ron was pissed. I think he's just being blunt.

Plenty of questions about what Eliot Wolf will do now that the Packers hired Brian Gutekunst as GM. Here’s the reaction from his Hall of Fame father, former Packers GM Ron Wolf: “At least he had the opportunity to interview for it,” Ron Wolf told ESPN.com. “Obviously the people up there don’t think he’s worthy or they would’ve hired him. End of discussion.”

I don't know what he's going to do, but if he has a good relationship with Brian, I think I'd try to stay and become like Eric DeCosta of the Ravens, where if you can be successful long enough or enough times as a #2, they'll start coming to you...

Of course I don't expect him to keep turning every chance down like DeCosta, as DeCosta wants to stay and be in Baltimore as a family and friends choice.

I think saying he's "unworthy" is a little unfair. As the old saying goes, timing is everything. Just because they're not ready to move forward with Eliot Wolf as general manager at this time doesn't mean they don't think he's unworthy of the job. They may simply not think the timing is right . . . yet.

Then again, maybe they think he's unworthy of the position. Who knows?

I just heard Aaron Nagler say Eliot Wolf hired Brian Gutekunst. Also been reading that Brian WANTS Eliot to stay with the Packers and is going to try and convince him of that.

The Packers are a very, I'm not sure how to say it. Cautious(?) organization and I think hiring a 34 year old to run the entire football operations may have played a role in the decision. If the two candidates of Brian and Eliot were even, I could see age being the leaning factor.

Either way, Eliot can walk proudly knowing he's just 34 years old and teams are interviewing him to run their entire football operations. His time will come.

Update: Eliot is actually 35, and will be 36 in March.

I mean, if your goal is to OBTAIN A TITLE, then go ahead and do that. If your goal is to learn from the Master, that's not necessarily the same thing. Going through school more slowly, you take extra classes, you meet more people as they race by you. Expose yourself to all their ideas and experiences. Then when you DO get that opportunity, it's not the same as just having prepped for exams the entire time. It's an advantage, imo.
