Now wolf has an offer from the raiders. It's one thing to let wolf go if that is what he wants, but it is a whole other thing to tell the whole league that we won't stop him from going. Let the offers poor in. Stupid thing to do if they legitimately wanted to keep him. Makes me question the validity of that statement. But I'm not uffda, so I'll leave it at that.

Yeah I a bit confused why we're letting guys interview else where, when we normally don't... now Highsmith probably got a promotion, but I'm not sure if Wolf can be promoted without becoming a GM, as this seems like a lateral move.

Especially why are we letting them leave BEFORE the draft? ... I thought scouting types normally found new places after the draft was over, as that's when their year sorta ends and they start over for next year. So Highsmith and Wolf might know how the Packers view and like the guys in this current draft. I think I would of kept them at least until the draft (if possible) and then let them look elsewhere if they were so dang unhappy.

And if you wanted to keep them around, you could try to make them feel special and important in the mean time, trying to keep them around.

I don't get any of this. The Packers can block virtually any interview aside from GM, unless I'm missing something. From Wolf's take, his path to GM in Cleveland/Oakland is no better than in GB, and especially in the case of Cleveland, you could argue it's worse (given recent instability/turnover).

Either the Packers really aren't that high on Eliot, or this situation created an insurmountable rift.

Eliot Wolf is under contract with the Packers. He was blocked twice, once from Lions and once from Eagles for GM positions. The Packers interviewed him and chose someone else. They respect him, obviously, as indicated by the numerous raises and the fact he's been working with the Packers for almost 20 years. Perhaps, it's a sign of RESPECT they are letting him seek employment elsewhere. Why is that angle so far from people's minds?

Hell who knows, maybe the Packers will ask for compensation are letting the suitors lineup to give them something in return? Personally, I think the Packers are just being classy and letting the man seek employment elsewhere. Besides, what the hell good is it gonna do to have a pissed off person that high up on your staff being forced to be employed by you if they don't want to?

You'd think Packers fans would have less sticks up their ass with not having to worry about being EMBARRASSED in the playoffs at this time of year, but holy shit!!

Ya all need to relax, chill, smoke a joint or something, damn.

I very much agree with you, that the Packers are doing it out of respect and telling him, we don't want to force you to stay if you don't want to... THAT BEING SAID, timing is everything, and I would MUCH PREFER if they timed this after the draft!

After all, Wolf and Highsmith probably know the players the Packers have been scouting and interested in all year... so why not wait until the draft? Plus if you want them to stay, you can try to let him have more power and hopefully try to make it more fun and interesting for them in the meantime.

Speaking of Wolf and High...

It is being reported Jr. Wolf has joined the Browns ... Sorry to see him go but hope his future is bright.

The more I thought about it, it makes sense for him. I think the Browns have a golden ticket to rebuild a franchise. It'll make him look good, and I'm assuming having one employer your whole life should hinder his marketability. I don't see how he'll be a GM in Cleveland in 5 years, but it may benefit his stepping stone more than in GB.

I tend to agree Musccy...in Green Bay he will always be known as Ron's son. The amount of high draft choices and existing talent in Cleveland could make the entire front office look like geniuses with a winning record in the next few years.
On the Green Bay front this triangle of power reporting to "Alfred E. Neuman" Murphy leaves little room for Jr. Wolf to strut his stuff. You never know how life turns out and it might not be the last time we see Elliot Wolf in Titletown. UserPostedImage

It's a low risk situation in Cleveland, so many people have failed to turn it around that the bar has been set quite low. If they can get them back into the playoffs Wolff might be able to springboard into another GM gig in the next 2-3 years. If yet another GM fails to turn Cleveland around Wolff may even be an internal candidate to replace Dorsey.

Versus staying in Green Bay where as long as Rodgers is here so is Gutekunst, and where the bar is set so high that likely only another superbowl run will get people's attention. Even then they'll probably just say they won because they have Rodgers BigGrin

I'm curious if the Packers will start poaching personnel guys from other teams now.

gbguy20 (32m) : no you bench him because Lewis is better
beast (58m) : I don't think you bench him just for this
gbguy20 (1h) : bench lendricks and play lewis
beast (1h) : Interesting happens in the Kendricks case, upping the charges? A. Jones case happened later is already over
Cheesey (17h) : Brewers still alive! Game 7 for all the marbles tomorrow!
gbguy20 (21h) : jaguars
Nonstopdrivel (19-Oct) : Didn't he used to play quarterback in this league?
Zero2Cool (19-Oct) : Cardinals told their coaches this morning that OC Mike McCoy has been fired. QBs coach Byron Leftwich is the new coordinator.
Zero2Cool (19-Oct) : Someone take screen shot of NFL picks leader board. I won't be this close to #1 ever again!!
gbguy20 (19-Oct) : i know. no point in firing mike now anyway, we're just a few weeks away from the time of year where he normally figures his shit out
beast (18-Oct) : When Mike Pettine had a shot, he did grab the (now) 49ers head coach to be his (then) OC, I wonder who Pettine would hire now.
beast (18-Oct) : A couple of years ago, was a great time to find a good young offensive mind... but they're been largely taken up... I so would of hired the 49ers or Rams head coaches.
Zero2Cool (18-Oct) : We aren't the Penguins, we can't fire the head guy, then win the championship.
Zero2Cool (18-Oct) : i don't think the Packers ever function like that
gbguy20 (18-Oct) : if we fire MM now his replacement would have the bye week to get acquainted with his new position.
Zero2Cool (18-Oct) : I had high hopes for Brewers. I'm thinking Red Sox are my only World Series chance now.
KRK (17-Oct) : Can’t believe Brewers intentionally walked Machado. What pussies!!
Nonstopdrivel (17-Oct) : Vince Biegel and wife expecting baby in April.
Nonstopdrivel (17-Oct) : Vince Bügel
Nonstopdrivel (17-Oct) : And if she gets gas afterward, does that mean she pastatoots herself?

Cheesey (17-Oct) : National Pasta day? Time to open a can of Spaghetti O's!
Zero2Cool (17-Oct) : packers got the ball at own 10 with 1:07 left and no timeouts. Since 2001, no one has scored a TD in that situation when tied or trailing by one score, in 47 chances
Smokey (17-Oct) : Today is NATIONAL PASTA DAY !
Zero2Cool (17-Oct) : Christian Yelich walked away from his locker he fumed, “F–k that motherf—er.’’
Zero2Cool (17-Oct) : Vikings have given up more points than Packers.
Zero2Cool (17-Oct) : Packers have awful defense
Zero2Cool (17-Oct) : Vikings are said to have elite defense
gbguy20 (17-Oct) : actually the videos don't play so nvm
gbguy20 (17-Oct) : YouTube works for me
gbguy20 (17-Oct) : i really enjoyed him in the broadcast booth. aside from the whole turkey hole thing...
Nonstopdrivel (17-Oct) : Youtube appears to be down.
Nonstopdrivel (16-Oct) : Gruden can ruin as many players as he pleases, so long as he stays out of the broadcast booth.
gbguy20 (16-Oct) : You are correct kevin. Abandon (the raiders) ship
Zero2Cool (16-Oct) : It's the Raiders, I just assume everything is ruined since Gruden.
