Mike Florio said: One of the most widely-recognized Hall of Fame wrongs finally has been made right. Former Packers guard Jerry Kramer has earned enshrinement in the Hall of Fame, as a Seniors Committee candidate. It was his 11th time as a finalist for the honor. In 1997, Kramer became a Seniors Committee finalist, but he didn't get [more]

Mike Florio Finally! Might have to re-read "Instant Replay" in light of the good news.

Jerry Kramer
2018 HALL OF FAME CLASS
It's long overdue and should be a special induction ceremony.

jsonline said:Kramer needed 80 percent of the vote from the 47 voters who were in attendance, which meant that no more than nine could vote against him. The Hall doesn’t reveal the vote totals, but Kramer hit the requisite 80 percent.
According to Hall protocol, after the vote was completed Saturday afternoon, David Baker, the president of the Hall of Fame, visited the hotel where the nominees were staying and notified each individually whether he was in.
“I said that (knock on the door) is it,” Kramer said. “And the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen (Baker), the big hunk down here at the end was standing there with the cameras and stuff behind him. I was over the top. It was something I was afraid to believe in, I was afraid to hope for. So I kept trying to keep those emotions out there somewhere. But hey, I’m here and I’m part of the group. Thank you very much.”
Who was it that had the signature "Why is Kramer in the HOF"? I guess he will have to change it if we ever go back to siggies.

It took the HOF 40 years to get it right...but I'm really glad he is finally in. Also glad he is still here to enjoy it. It would have been a real shame for him to not get in or to get in after he is gone. The "boys" from the great Lombardi teams are getting "up there".

If a player doesn't get into Hall of Fame in the first handful of tries, how do they get in decades later? Did they get better? Did the myths and legends grow so much they couldn't be ignored?
Good another Packers player is in, I just don't really see how a player gets voted in decades later.

I agree with you. The "argument" is probably the Vet's Committee is not made up of the media who does the first round of voting. They might look at the candidate more objectively.
I can't say I totally agree but if someone has completely alienated the media, say by not giving them the little sound bites they crave, a Vet's Committee may not have the same as to grind.

I read somewhere that the "AFL" owners would not vote Jerry in because the Lombardi teams had too many players in and the Packers kicked their asses in the first two Super Bowls. No way to know how true that is. In any case it was an extreme injustice. When a player is voted the best guard during the first 50 years of football and to the All Decade team, among other accolades, and is the only player from either of those two teams not in the HOF, it certainly looks like some form of collusion.
I'm glad he is finally in. It would have been a shame if he would never have made it or if he had gotten in posthumously.

As so many "glory days" Packers have been let in in the last 50 years, that doesn't seem like the case.
Did Kramer tick off some of the guys that make the decision? I don't know.
I know he admitted in the past that he acted like his crap didn't stink for a long time. Maybe that was some reason.
He mellowed in later years.
When I talked to him, he was pretty decent. Talked to me for several minutes and signed a picture that I had taken of him the previous year .

I didn't realize the owners were the ones voting. I thought the media did the first round of voting and much later they set up the Veterans Committee. Even if every AFL owner hated JK why would the accredited media member bow down to them?
In reality I think everyone hated Jerry because he was such a jerk and since there really aren't any stats for the OL in the 60's it was easy to ignore him.

Probably a lot of truth to this but shitsky, this wasn't a Miss America pageant, we're talking about nasty football players who were great at their craft.
It shouldn't have taken so long.

I am not the guy who kept him out. There are nasty football players. Nitschke and Butkus were two of the toughest in that same generation. Point is they knew how to be tough on the field but decent off of it. They didn't create the animosity with other players when the game was over. It took Kramer a lot longer to figure it out. When he finally did, he was voted in.
