Pro Football Rumors said:
Randall Cobb and Clay Matthews are two of the longest tenured members of the Packers, but their time in Green Bay could be coming to an end. There's been a drop in production for both in recent years and both are heading into the final year of their contracts. Both have non-guaranteed salaries for 2018, and [...]

You didn't hear it from me.

Clay's safer, because of the lack of depth. Even if/when Biegel takes over the league, we'll need depth at the position. We've got a ton of scrub WRs.

The only way I see either of them being released/traded (without some legal issue arising or internal issue) is if two of the three rookies show immediate starting ability. I said ability, not potential. Ability as is in you need to get them on the field immediately. Not potential whereas you see they will sometime be a force.

Everyone on the team not named Aaron Rodgers has the potential of being cut or traded including CM3 and Cobb. I doubt it will happen.

I agree. You can’t cut either unless you have replacements that are ready to be “the guy”.
I think CM3 and Cobb are safe for this year, but not next year unless they REALLY show big this year.

I liked this idea in March when we could have used the extra cap space. Now if we cut them we don't see the benefit until next year unless like zero said we have an amazing guy on the team already

A number of guys could beat Cobb out. Not so sure about Matthews.

Packers will probably keep 6 wr's on the roster, a minimum of 5
Davante is a lock.
Name The 4 or 5 wr's who have a chance to beat out Cobb
You want to send Aaron into the season with 2 new TE's and and 4 or 5 inexperienced wr's?

Barring any major injury to Randall, I don't think it will happen.

EDIT
Let's not forget The Packers like to run the no huddle, which requires every receiver to know every position, not just slot.
Also Randall will be lined up in the backfield at times.
Major injury is the only thing that will keep him off the final roster

Well you got the rookies, probably two of them will be kept on the roster. You got Monty, who can also motion to the slot, but he takes up an RB spot.

What you need is, guys who have at least a year of experience. People who know the system, have experience at the pro level. Someone who can contribute 600 yards for less than $10 million per season.

So let's say you got Davante and two rookies. That's three positions. You got two, maybe three more spots. So let's see, Yancey, Trevor Davis, Gmo, Michael Clark. Who am I forgetting?

Every year.
You set the bar so high for rookies.
Every year you are disappointed.
Odds are only one of the rookies will make the final 53.
Hopefully he will excel on ST's.

The other 2 will be put on the PS to get ready.

These guys will hopefully wow everyone during preseason.

Tell me when is the last time a rookie Packer WR actually made a difference on offense?

Greg Jennings?

Reality bites but it is what it is.

I get it, Matthews has become an average OLB but he's the best average pass rusher we have.
I see little sense in cutting him at this point in time.
Cobb has also become average but I doubt he gets cut at this point in time.
I think some folks are over valuing Montgomery.

Far as I recall that’s what all the press evaluators were saying after the draft. Probly two of these rookies make the 53. I mean, they could keep 6 WRs too, which would open up a spot.

Remember, Aaron Jones will be suspended, so that’s an extra roster spot for weeks 1 and 2.

The Packers best pass rusher is Nick Perry. CM3 is probably a better overall football player, though.

you keep bringing up the 600 yards as if its written in stone that is all Cobb will have this year. I could easily see him eclipsing 1000 yards if everyone stays healthy. I'm not sure anyone besides Adams would be capable of that.

He's lost his burst. He's just a guy now. A guy who is not tall enough to line up on the perimeter. Also, a guy who makes his hay when Aaron goes sand lot. Which Aaron shouldn't be doing anymore, after yet another broken collarbone. And with Philbin advising on offense.

Defense
Perry is a better overall player at this point. More consistant pass rush and MUCH better setting an edge. CM3 only has more positional flexibility. He is very very expensive. If a top notch, but less expensive guy got cut...they might make a change.

Offense
Why can other teams bring in rookies who start and we can’t? The question is more than rhetorical. Our offense can’t be that difficult, and our top guys are not elite receivers.

Rookie WRs will take a year. EQ might be able to play, but even if he does, it will be nothing compared to his 2nd and 3rd years.

As for Perry, this defense might benefit from having a tweener at his position. Pettine isn't big on those edge rusher types anyway. Dude needs to work his nutrition, do some bone broths, man. Keep those hand bones from snapping all the time.
