The Packers need to trade for Le'Veon Bell.

Do whatever it takes. Send a first-round pick. Send four. Who gives a (expletive)? You own the Saints' first-round pick, in addition to your own, in next year's draft anyway. The Packers are on the verge of the Super Bowl. One that looked like it was going to be ripped from you for a few moments there on Sunday night. Embrace this. The Football Gods gave you a second chance. Make the most of it.

Now, I know Bell has to sign his franchise tender before he can be traded, and I'm not going to get into the salary-cap complications or anything like that. Football people know how to make that stuff work. Besides, I'm the ideas guy. I'm like Steve Jobs walking into a room of brilliant people and telling them I want all of the music in the world in a device the size of a potato chip. [Snaps fingers] Make it happen! This really makes sense for both teams.

On the one hand, the idea is intriguing as hell. Pair the best quarterback in the league with the best running back in the league. What could possibly go wrong? What defense could realistically hope to withstand this kind of two-pronged attack?

On the other hand, I'm not sure Mike McCarthy has the mentality necessary to maximize such an abundance of assets. If his history is anything to go by, I think he'd squander far too many valuable opportunities trying to force his offense into being a safe run-first system instead of letting it rip and taking what the defense gave him. But the prospect of the kind of dominant play action and clock control Bell would offer is enough to make me salivate.

Imagine that offense in the red zone. Drool

I can even see how a transaction like this might extend Rodgers' career. Shield him from absorbing so many hits for a few years.

Assuming the line could figure out how to block, of course. Always a dicey proposition in Green Bay.

It won’t happen.
It’s nice to think about though.
But to think about it hurts too, as it makes it more frustrating when it doesn’t happen.

Three reasons not to.
1. Money
2. Our offensive line
3. Mike McCarthy

It's risky to throw some draft picks around for a player who could be a one-year rental. Not that risky, though, since you have the Saints' 2019 first-round selection. Teams like to hoard their draft picks like they are gift cards. I mean, you know how you get a gift card and think, "Wow, this is great." And then you hold on to it because you want to make sure the purchase you are making is gift-card worthy. Then you end up keeping it in your drawer for years before eventually throwing it away. In fact, a recent study said that 87 percent of gift cards retain more than a third of their value when they are discarded. And while I'm making that up, it's true that way less than half of the players selected in the first round will be Pro Bowlers. In fact, of the 159 players selected in the first round from 2013-2017, 39 have made the Pro Bowl. And one of them was Amari Cooper. You really wouldn't waste a late-first-round pick on a player like Bell? Stop being so precious.

No way. Not for that money and the picks we'd have to give up and not with our O-Line. Especially with multiple credible run options. Bell will be an upgrade but his talents will be wasted with our line and the way the playcalling's gone so far in this extremely brief season. It'll get better.

I wouldn't even want to trade a 5th rounder for the privilege of paying any RB 15 million a year.

I was hoping you were going to say that Green Bay is the Pet Sematary for running backs.

As has been pointed out a few times already, the GB OL is a pass blocking line. They are not suited for rush blocking. There first step is backwards and then set up a wall. Rush blocker go forwards and smack the DL driving them out of the hole. That's not the forte for this line. It would be a waste of resources to bring in Bell.

I wouldn't want to trade at least one 1st round pick to give out the richest RB contract ever. Especially to a RB who touches the ball almost 400 times a year...

There's a reason the Steelers don't want to sign him to that contract and prefer to keep giving him the tag. They understand they run him into the ground every year. Whenever it happens that Bell starts declining, its gonna happen fast.

Why do you think Bell is pushing so hard for a long time deal and is prepared to sit out til week 10?

IMO we dont need Bell, Ty is much better then him. If only we would use him correctly. Not a power back; but a scat back or wideout. Stick both williams and Ty out on the field and let the D try to figure out whom the ball is going too.

Oh remember that play in the bears game that got called back that Ty did ...

He is still one of my favorite players - just wish we would use him right.

Is there an echo in here? I could swear I just heard that not too long ago? Maybe it was for some other player.

We don"t need Bell _ I agree we don't need him.

Ty is much better then him- I rarely use the "f" word but in this case you are Fucking crazy.

I like Monty as well but to think he is better than Bell you must be smokin some good shit.

There is a reason why teams don't want to pony up huge dollars for long term deals with players who are not franchise quality qbs. It's not a very good investment.

The player may well be great. He might even get HoF consideration. But that doesn't mean they should break the bank on him.

The additional wins he earns the club are minimal. Mack played lights out in the first half. (It might be argued he would do the same in the 2nd half in a few weeks. Maybe so maybe not.) Regardless how well he played the bares still lost. It gets the fans, media and even his teammates excited but in the end he was no more effective than Sam Acho or Bilal Nichols when it comes to getting the W.

Likewise Bell will get some team a few wins but 2,3 even 4 more wins for certain teams (I am not implying he would bring 4 wins to a team like GB. At most 1 or 2 for them.) it will probably not make much difference in the playoff run. A team that would sneak into the playoffs because of him would be outed in the first couple of rounds. Teams that would make it further probably don't need a high priced RB to begin with. In the long run every team would regret not having the draft picks to restock their team with less expensive options.

Well thought out WPR.
The more opinions I read here , the more I agree that it would be dumb to try to get him. It made me think a lot.

I think when Aaron Jones comes back, with Williams backing him up, our run game will do enough to keep the opposing D honest.
Of course none of that matters if Aaron Rodgers can’t play.

Steelers might trade him outside AFC for less than inside AFC. Bell might accept a lower contract with a legit Super Bowl contender (I know, laugh, Steelers are just that) with an elite QB.

Would I want Leveon Bell? No, because we have Aaron Rodgers. All we need for our offense to be at its best is a RB who can do these few things.

A, pass protection
B, never fumble
C, consistently get 3 yards every carry
D, at least a threat to receive the ball out of backfield

We do not need Barry Sanders or Walter Payton for our offense to be best in the NFL. Our offense is at its best when Rodgers is being Rodgers.

The only deal I would do for Bell is the following.
Packers trade 1st rounder plus Clay Matthews.
Steelers trade Leveon Bell plus TJ Watt

And I would let Bell walk after his franchise tag is up.

Unfortunately, no matter how well Aaron Jones plays he will be the backup. Not Williams, because Mike absolutely hates Fast/Talented RBs. Also one of many reasons we won't trade for Bell.

Mucky Tundra (2h) : nerd, do you have so little faith in Breeland that you want Pipkins over him? ;)
beast (20h) : I think Pipkins has been replaced and upgraded already
Nonstopdrivel (21h) : And that's without the sacks negated by penalties.
nerdmann (21h) : Grab Pipkins!
Zero2Cool (12-Nov) : @PackerReport Lions have released former Packers CB Pipkins.
gbguy20 (12-Nov) : brice ankle bruise is week to week. assume he won't play Thursday. jaire is fine. breeland groin, not sure if an issue or not. haven't seen anything on perry
gbguy20 (12-Nov) : wow. quietly leading the league
beast (12-Nov) : Any word on the Perry's injuries? Or the CBs?
Zero2Cool (12-Nov) : Sean McVay confirms Cooper Kupp is out for the year with a torn ACL.
Zero2Cool (12-Nov) : @ProFootballTalk Report: Dolphins wideout Jakeem Grant did not tear his Achilles last night
Zero2Cool (12-Nov) : Packers S Kentrell Brice left the game Sunday with a bone bruise in his ankle, source said, though X-Rays were negative. He’s considered week-to-week, and obviously would have a tough time playing Thu
Zero2Cool (12-Nov) : Packers sacked Osweiler 6 times on Sunday - now tied for the league lead in sacks (31).
Zero2Cool (12-Nov) : Only thing I found on that is from a Vikings board.

Nonstopdrivel (12-Nov) : Never mind, the Steelers played Thursday. My bad.
Nonstopdrivel (12-Nov) : When was the last time a quarterback threw five touchdowns two weeks in a row?
Zero2Cool (12-Nov) : At 5-foot-11 and 197 pounds, Greene ran his 40 in 4.51 seconds
Zero2Cool (12-Nov) : Yes, they do. Packers have recently.
beast (12-Nov) : I think it depends on the team... some update after every move, others do the bare minimum
TheKanataThrilla (12-Nov) : Vander Esch is pretty damn good
Nonstopdrivel (12-Nov) : Rams are using Fowler as a defensive end.
Nonstopdrivel (12-Nov) : Do teams update their online depth charts throughout the year?
TheKanataThrilla (12-Nov) : Fowler is a back-up at the moment as well. How scary is that.
beast (12-Nov) : Fowler isn't yet on the Rams website depth chart... and wasn't thinking of him (cus I don't think of him as a 3-4 DL)
Nonstopdrivel (12-Nov) : Packers finally have a convincing victory, and I have to miss it.
TheKanataThrilla (12-Nov) : Yep
beast (12-Nov) : okay, Dante Fowler is number 4?
beast (12-Nov) : Who's the 4th? ... also the 3 are top 14 overall picks
Nonstopdrivel (12-Nov) : There are FOUR first-round picks on the Rams' defensive line.
Nonstopdrivel (12-Nov) : There has not been a single lead change in a Redskins game all season.
dyeah_gb (11-Nov) : Browns may have as many wins as the Packers before the Miami game
