More crappy defense is on its way.

I think this is a good thing for the Green Bay Packers at this point in time.

Really glad to hear this. I liked his schemes & his ability to adjust. Especially with all of the injuries. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure the only day 1 starters that were playing the last few weeks were Martinez & Matthews. Maybe Tramon but I’m not sure if he was a day 1 starter.

Tramon was starting at S, his original position was CB.

Pettine can do it with smoke and mirrors. And his street free agents had far fewer "miscommunications" than Dom's veterans who had been in the system for years.

Yeah the defense was good while the players were healthy... and yes Tramon Williams started all 16 games and I believe took the most snaps on defense.

I couldn't disagree more. Pettine did an excellent job with rookies and UDFA. Get him the talent and we will be terrific on defense.

There's no T. Stop it. If this was Dom defense, you'd all be crying for him to be fired.

I think you've been spending too much time sorting the IBM punch cards and have lost some perspective.
- Our entire starting DL was on IR for the last 3 games and banged up for a large part of the season
- Our line-backing corps(e) is the weakest in football
- One of our starting corners out for the year in game 2, and playing rookies (albeit talented ones) and UDFA's

Let call it like it is/was...FAR fewer blown coverages, missed assignments, etc... with dregs...get the man some healthy talent and stability and we will be excellent on defense.

Perfect, by no means. 3 man rushes in our red zones was a repeated mistake. But he would be on the street for 15 minutes if we let him go.

I remember some people saying that about McCarthy too. Admittedly I was one of them. In my defense that was before last season though.

I do agree with you on Pettine though. He did a lot with nothing and if you didn't see improvement you were either not looking or didn't know what to look for.

Well McCarthy was allegedly offered two head coaching jobs (Cardinals and Brown's, Brown's being conditional he kept Kictchens as OC) and he turned both of them down.

As far as I knew McCarthy only interviewed for one job and that was the Jets and they didn't offer him the job. He never interviewed with the Browns or Cardinals so I find it highly unlikely they would have offered him the HC job without an interview.

Interest does not equal offer.

McCarthy and Browns didn't work out because Browns wanted the HC to keep Kitchens as OC, McCarthy refused, thus, Browns removed their interest.

Cardinals wanted McCarthy to be HC and head of personnel. McCarthy has no interest in controlling personnel, thus, no interest.

McCarthy is very good family person and his family wants him around. He's getting paid regardless this year, so why not sit idle, regroup, take a year off and come back looking for work in 2020, right?

No kidding! ... but like I said, he "was allegedly offered two head coaching jobs" ... I sure as hell can't confirm or deny that... I have no idea if true.... but the hiring people for the Browns known Mike McCarthy fairly well (and sounds like they had some talks though not an interview), and the Cardinals reportedly had conversations with Mike McCarthy and the Cardinals might of be (my word) desperate...

As the Cardinals knew all things being equal they're not seen as the premium organization, and they're going on their 3rd head coach in 3 years, and they had the worst record in the NFL, it's a tough division right now, and on top of that, reports that some coaches REALLY don't like the franchise QB (Josh Rosen) they just drafted with the 10th overall selection.

And some people have been really shocked at the guy they ended up hiring... though from what I'm hearing he might be better in the NFL than in college, because he struggles with administrative and recruiting (and defense), which there might be less of that stuff in the pros (not talking about defense part).

I could be completely wrong... but I'm thinking he didn't want the Cardinals job (at least not compared to the Browns/Jets)... because in theory he could of just hired a head of personnel guy, like Holmgren hired Ted Thompson with the Seahawks... heck he could of grabbed Scot McCloughan or Eliot Wolf or Reggie McKenzie (he probably knows more).

I bet Mike is waiting to see what happens in Pittsburgh next year.

Wouldn't that be a perfect place for Mike to resurface.

Defensive talent... less so offensive, at least QB. Also it really seems like the current owner is setting up the foundation for a potential move to London... though that could be a decade or more away, and could potentially bust and not happen at all...

Jason La Canfora said:
League sources said the Jets were very interested in [Mike McCarthy,] the former Lombardi Trophy winner but talks broke off over staffing issues.

McCarthy rebuffed strong overtures from the Cardinals before the end of the regular season, as reported, and he and the Browns were never going to be a match, something both sides knew throughout the process. There was little mutual interested and he never seriously spoke to Browns general manager John Dorsey – who he worked with in Green Bay – about the job, sources said. The Jets were his most serious pursuer, but even then it was always going to be a bit of a long shot.

McCarthy harbored some concerns about the structure and composition of the Jets front office, sources said, though he did have a productive interview with ownership and team officials. However, as the Jets began deeper conversations with their finalists for the job, it became clear he was not going to mesh with their direction. Specifically, sources said, the Jets asked to see a list of a potential coaching staff so that they could peruse and consider the options. McCarthy complied with the request but began to have reservations about the process at this point, sources said, and was unsure if this would in fact be a match.
Sounds like Mike McCarthy wasn't interested in the Cardinals job... and according to La Canfora little mutual interest in the Browns...

Also I find it interesting, they say the Jets job broke off over staffing... without giving any more, when they later explain (a little bit) the differences between Baylor coach Matt Rhule and Adam Gase staffing but they completely avoided explaining in MM, despite Mike McCarthy being the main story line.

No sir, but it was reported the Cardinals were offering that to McCarthy, and all signs pointed to Browns hiring him, until he balked at being forced to have his OC selected for him. Another thing game out just recently that the Jets and McCarthy broke down over staff issues too.

Honestly, I think McCarthy did the interviews more for a "lets see what is out there" and get some interview practice while taking the year off. I don't know that he ever really wanted to coach in 2019 to be honest. I have nothing to base this off of, just speculation on my part.

TheKanataThrilla (21-Jan) : They review PI calls in the CFL. In slow motion many calls look like PI. The fact is there were at least 3 refs looking at the play and they all botched it.
