“Yellow journalism “ used to be in the minority. Now, real journalism is the minority.
With the web, it’s whoever can get a story out first that “wins”. Even if the story is 90% made up crap.
They just ignore it and move onto their next “scoop”.
I can’t remember who it was, but a major TV newsman ran with a story, and ended up losing all credibility because he was in such a hurry to “scoop”, that he didn’t check the facts first.

If anything, I would argue that Tyler Dunne's "smear job" is right in keeping with the rich tradition of American journalism.

From the time the first newspapers were published, neutrality was neither expected of journalists nor even considered desirable. Readers subscribed to newspapers precisely because they were biased. The rabid diatribes published in the newspapers of the Revolutionary Era up through the first half of the 20th century make Alex Jones sound like a veritable voice of reason and moderation. Wild conspiracy theories, vicious character assassination, and outright calls to violence were so common, they hardly raised an eyebrow. Newspapers were viewed not as impartial chroniclers of recent events but simply as propaganda arms of whatever ideologies they identified with—hence the reason why so many papers still have "Republican," "Democrat," and "Independent" in their titles to this day.

People these days get their panties in a twist when politicians aren't polite or collegial enough. All that proves is they know nothing about this country's history. They certainly have never read the fiery debates—the screaming matches, really—that used to break out in the halls of Congress on a regular basis. Hell, there is at least one known case of a congressman beating his colleague unconscious with a walking stick! We seem to forget that it was politicians and newspaper editors who dragged this nation into a bloody civil war. The vile rhetoric regularly spewed by the newspapers of yesteryear makes Trump's worst Twitter tirades seem like a toddler's "terrible twos" by comparison.

It was only with the rise of Walter Cronkite that neutrality came to be considered an important part of journalism, and even then, it's always been more of an elaborate fiction, a carefully curated illusion, a thin and brittle facade, than anything substantive or authentic. It's certainly true that in recent years the media has become more overt about pandering to the ever more polarized extremes. But all that's really happening is that the media has let the mask slip as journalists increasingly return to their thoroughly yellow roots.

Dr.NSD dogmatically documented:

From the time the first newspapers were published, neutrality was neither expected of journalists nor even considered desirable.

He further delineated:

It was only with the rise of Walter Cronkite that neutrality came to be considered an important part of journalism, and even then, it's always been more of an elaborate fiction, a carefully curated illusion, a thin and brittle facade, than anything substantive or authentic.

Both comments are spot on. There is a reason it is arguably called fake news...it is. Critical thinking and separating facts from opinion are key to an intelligent electorate. If you want to learn how biased the "Paper of Record"...the holocost denying New York Times and other so called journalists are, order yourself a copy of Unfreedom of the Press, by Mark Levin.

With the possible exception of during WWII through Korea, the press is typically carrying the water for one party or another....currently it the Democrats.

On the old “Dragnet” TV show, Joe Friday would say “The facts Mam, just the facts”
Now it would have to be “The facts MS., or the so called facts as YOU see them, they don’t have to be FACTUAL facts, just as whatever slant you want to put on it”.

Zero2Cool (27-Mar) : Cuz during the draft "I had them mocked there!" as if it's amazing.

dfosterf (27-Mar) : And/Or a city council, of which I haven't seen a good one in a very long time
dfosterf (27-Mar) : That sounds like a Mayor, not a city.

Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Shouldn't be penalized cuz official screwed up
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Yeah, challenge until you are incorrect twice.
Zero2Cool (25-Mar) : Fining them is the goal, per the people who made the rule anyway.
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still waiting on the kickoff rule changes. Did hear yesterday that the touchback proposal will now be the 30 yard line, not the 35
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Probably speed of game issues with your proposal
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Hopefully the refs don't get in the habit of throwing flags on this
beast (25-Mar) : I think when it comes to Challenges should get two strikes, so unlimited challenges as long as they keep winning them, but 2 wrong then done
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Still subject to the fines etc
dfosterf (25-Mar) : Yes, I should have been more specific. Also, they are now saying it would be a 15 yard penalty. That makes more sense .
