Well, we know Rashan Gary won't be considered for ROY.
What a terrible pick he was!
I don't think it's fair to judge someone solely on their rookie year... Aaron Rodgers looked absolutely horrible as a rookie.
And if you pay attention to the type that Gute is going for, the highest upside potential... a lot of them are underdeveloped and will take more time to develop to their potential...
I'm not saying Gary ever will develop, but with how raw he is, you got to realize he's not going to be a finished product in the first two years... just no way.
And that's true for a number of Gute's great athletic picks, great athletes that have a chance to develop into great players if they get time and fix the problems with them, that made them drop in the first place.
To be fair, he hasn’t been given a lot of playing time. He started off having to play behind the Smith’s. Difficult as a rookie to take the starting spot from either of them. I do think that pick could’ve been used at a different position, though. Maybe he will turn it on & get on the field more.
Yeah I was surprised we signed two high priced FAs to 4 year deals, to use the top pick at the same exact position...
I mean I have argued you need three pass rushers as they need to rotate and in case of injuries, but that pick was clearly looking three years down the road, if not 5, past the Smith contracts.
Whatever it takes to get you through the day.
Seriously, most of my highschool nicknames had big in them... though I am small NFL linemen sized and therefore was 65 pounds heavier than any other football player at my small highschool.
Gary and Burks both appear to have been poor selections...alas. With and aging Bulaga and limited depth, we are going to need a couple of more standout OL picks
I honestly never got the Burks pick (at least not that high), I get that he's mobile as hell and at a good size, making him a great athlete for his size...
BUT the guy's lack of physical style made him look more like a great track guy, than football player... I just don't think he's mentally tough enough to maximize his great athletic gifts in the NFL. I think he still has potential, but he's competing with Safeties in coverage, or needs to get better physical and learn to wrap up, because his tackle attempts too often only put himself on the ground.
