With Mason Crosby opting out of 2020 season, the Packers need a Placekicker. This could be a changing of the guard too as Crosby was showing some signs of age.

Should GB look for a kicker who already has league experience? or

Should GB look for some rookie just out of college? or

Should GB put out an open invitation to try out for for GB's open Placekicker job? or

Is there some other option not listed to find a Placekicker that the Packers can trust and rely upon?

Put a call into Stephen Gostkowski.
Next best option would be to see if Graham Gano has recovered.
Of the young kids Jet Toner or Jace Christmann seem to be the best options.
Maybe Cole Tracy is available.

FACT CHECK

At age 35 and holder of every significant kicking record in Green Bay Packers history, Mason Crosby would have surprised no one if he had opted out on the 2020 NFL season.

Crosby has not signed the opt-out clause offered to every NFL player who felt it was not safe for him or his family to risk contracting COVID-19 while at work.

But he was added Thursday to the Packers’ reserve/COVID-19 list, which means he either tested positive for the virus or was in a place where the risk of being exposed was elevated.

PUP list or opting out, Covid-19 is no joke. Physical brutes have been reduced to weaklings and those considered very healthy have died. I wish Mason Crosby all the best, but not being prepared with another placekicker would be reckless. I don't know if there is an opt out deadline, but gambling on a single player at a scoring critical position with the continuing possibility that your single player could get sick is dangerous.

I still say find and hire another placekicker. Place him on the practice squad if necessary, but get the best kicker available, pay him to step up or be ready to step up. Past practices don't all apply with a Viral Pandemic raging all about us. I would also examine the roster for someone that can also punt a football should the need arise. Cross train the 2nd and 3rd QBs to serve as holders for the placekicker as well.

Actually it's neither of those... it's the Covid-19 list.

The guys that got it now should be over Covid by the start of the season and science suggest they should have at least a three month immunization window.

This virus attacks the lungs and takes time to recover, considering kickers probably don't stress their lungs as much as other positions. If Crosby says he's playing, then I'd probably be more concerned with the others that caught the virus, and those whom I thought might be more likely to catch it.

Well I glanced at this thread while I was on hold at the office. I just had a chance to look online and I didn't see a single report that Mason planned to opt out of the season. He will be back in a coupe of weeks. No need to sign a kicker and have him sit on the bench waiting. The guys who have not signed with a team are a dime a dozen. You can get them any time.

Smokey (7m) : ... and the band played on.
Mucky Tundra (8m) : after those two I think it's gonna be a long time before see another RB stick around as long as those two, esp with a similar workload
Zero2Cool (13m) : Cowboys win. unreal.
TheKanataThrilla (17m) : WTF Falcons?
TheKanataThrilla (20m) : It is amazing that a RB can play that long. Gore and Peterson are amazing in their longevity in probably the toughest position in the NFL in terms of health
Mucky Tundra (24m) : Frank Gore, who fell to the 3rd round in the 2004 draft due to durability concerns, will play in his 228th game. That's a new record for RBs

beast (19-Sep) : After Clark resigned, the big ones are Bak, Jones, Linsley and King
Zero2Cool (19-Sep) : Do we have any other player needing a contract?
TheKanataThrilla (19-Sep) : Wondering if we Franchise Bakh for a year and then release him? I can't see a long term deal.
Zero2Cool (18-Sep) : LT David bakhtiari wants more than Tunsil. So he's gone.
Zero2Cool (18-Sep) : Packers game status report vs. Lions: Out: DL Kenny Clark, WR Equanimeous St. Brown, OLB Randy Ramsey Questionable: TE Josiah Deguara, OL Billy Turner, S Raven Greene, DL Montravius Adams, OL Lucas

Zero2Cool (14-Sep) : Saints drafted a guy after trading with Packers. How's that guy doing?
beast (14-Sep) : Last year the Packers released Lazard and he became our 2nd best WR, this year release Barnes and he might be our 2nd best ILB.
Zero2Cool (14-Sep) : Saints WR Michael Thomas might miss our week three game with high ankle sprain.
Zero2Cool (14-Sep) : Packers OL Lucas Patrick, who started yesterday’s opener at left guard before leaving with a shoulder injury, got good news on his tests and should be probable to play next week, source said.
yooperfan (14-Sep) : Perhaps Barnes will get more playing time and turn into the ILB that we’re looking for.
Zero2Cool (14-Sep) : @zachkruse2 UDFA ILB Krys Barnes was the Packers' highest-graded defensive player at @PFF in Week 1.
Zero2Cool (14-Sep) : For some reason, I thought Cardinals beat 49ers twice last year, so I picked Cardinals yesterday.
beast (14-Sep) : 49ers defense has always struggled against mobile QBs, Cards and Hawks in the division can give them hell, and Cards have a ton of offensive weapons, tons of WRs.
Cheesey (14-Sep) : Me too Zero! I actually went to the Packers/Cowboys NFC title game in Dallas in 96. The plane ride home was awful. I hate the Plowboys!
Zero2Cool (14-Sep) : Fake noise is the lose. I want real audio. I wanna hear the coaches complain about a dumb play. I wanna hear the players talking shit. :-)
