I remember two seasons ago thinking how bad our team was going to be. McCarthy was a new coach and an unknown commodity and we didn't start out very good. By the end of the season McCarthy and his coaching staff really had this team playing well. And then of course last year was an amazing season that just ended badly. I was convinced we were going to the Superbowl. It's the first game I thought McCarthy got outcoached. And of course that interception by Favre still leaves a foul taste in my mouth.

Brett is gone now, but the talent is still pretty good. Of course we all know that Brett played better than he ever has, with the exception of the Bears games and the Giants Championship game. I think the only "if" is Rogers. I think that if our offensive line comes together and can protect Rogers and if they can get that run game going, we can be even better than last year. Our defense needs to be more consistent. We seem to play outstanding on first and second downs, but not nearly so good on third downs. So, if the defense can get better and consistently get 3 and outs I would expect that we can go 11-5 this year and make a run at the Superbowl.

I agree with everything you wrote, including your 11-5 prediction. I'm even saying that they win the Super Bowl, so there ya go. There is no limit to how good this team can be.

Considering we made the NFC championship with one of the youngest teams in the league, and when you realize that the front office wouldn't have labeled Rodgers as the starting QB if they didn't feel like he was ready to lead the team, then I think the sky is the limit. This team has the ability around the field to win a superbowl, and the coaching to do so also.

I supported Sherman right up until that playoff loss to the Vikings (Harlan should've canned him outright after that debacle), but he never came close to proving that he could put a good stout defense on the field. We're close to that now, and that's the difference.

Exactly...we have one more draft cycle... one more year of experence with the Mike McCarthy system...we should not place the burden of success on aaron rodgers as we are a team that has growen togeather and as stated a million times there is no I in team.

I'm watching the pregame show with the Favre interview and as I'm watching him, I can't believe what a pinhead he has become. He's already playing games with the Jets as to whether he's going to come back next year. The New York writers are going to chew him up if he pulls that stuff with them.

As much as I admired Brett as a Packer, I am so glad he's gone. My hope right now is that Rogers is everything Thompson believed he could be so we can put all of that foolishness behind us.

I hope I'm feeling this optimistic on Tuesday morning.

I agree.........when we got into the playoffs with Sherman, he folded like a cheap tent. I think if he had had a better coach then, with the talent we had, we'd have more Lombardi trophies in the case right now.

They can be every bit as good as last season, it would take a few lucky breaks and getting healthy in a hurry and remaining that way for the entire season. It will also take players that made significant strides last year to maintain or improve on that level of play - while not experiencing significant drop-off at the QB position. Finally, aging starters cannot decline.

That seems to be quite a lot to ask, and my expectations are to see a slide of 3-4 wins from last year and remain competitive for the division or wild card.
