Franchise Davante to maintain his rights, then trade him.

We need the cap space, see what we can get. He doesn't want to be here anyway, perhaps Detroit can afford him.

He already said he wouldn’t take less money to stay here. He’s going to follow the money. So I agree with you. Try to get something for losing him.

I disagree here. Adam's success is partially due to working with Rodgers. He will be good on another team but not at the level he has played with Rodgers. Javon Walker, Jordy Nelson and Greg Jennings are all good examples of how Packer's receivers perform on other teams. Adams is not a major upgrade for Detroit, Chicago or Minnesota for the way those offense's are designed. Still would be better to trade with a team in the AFC though.

To trade for a franchise player who is tagged its two firsts right? If so not sure any WR is worth that. Especially one that'll be 30 by seasons end and wants top WR salary.

To outbid you, not to trade.

The only way you can do that is if someone is willing to give up picks and sign him to a pricey extension because they think Adam's will be the difference maker on offense. Without looking up other teams cap situations, I dont think any team really fits.

They have to negotiate something with Davante.

So has the picks and cap space for Adam's that could take him? You said Detroit for example, but what good is he to them? They're in a rebuild with Goff who is going to be ejected once they draft a QB. What good is giving up picks and cap space for Adams?

Sure, and then let's trade LaFleur to the Vikings...and Rodgers to the Bears (sarcasm)

Tag and trade is probably what they should do. It depends on what happens with Rodgers, if Rodgers sticks around they likely can't keep Adams, unless Rodgers signs a new contract with a few void years.

In any case, they aren't trading Adams inside the division, for obvious reasons. Additionally, the Lions and Bears aren't even in the top 10 for cap space, and the Vikings have serious cap problems.

The 5 teams with the most cap space are all in the AFC: Dolphins, Jags, Bengals, Chargers, and Jets. If I was Adams, I would have my fingers crossed for the Bengals or Chargers, as both have good, young QBs.

I actually predict he will go to the Raiders and back with Carr. They did make the playoffs and don't have much besides Renfro for a wideout. Carr would probably even restructure for that to happen.

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂

So, Packers Franchise Tag Davante Adams, then someone offers up a trade, they work out a contract with Adams, Packers and Adams sign the contract and then trade him? Doesn't that hurt the Packers salary cap with dead money from said new contract? If they just let him walk, they'll get a 3rd or 4th round compensatory pick in 2023, right?

Under what I said, it seems a tag and trade doesn't really do the Packers many favors.

Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the Packers will take on any dead money under a tag and trade scenerio. Firstly, I don't think they need to sign him to a contract extension to trade him. I think how it works is that he signs his franchise tag, which is effectively a 1 year contract, and then gets traded, with the entirety of that 1 year contract being transfered to the new team. The franchise tag isn't structured to push money into the future years, so there is no dead money to consider. Then, when the player has been traded, a new contract would be signed with the new team. Likely the player and team have already agreed to the contract in principal, but just need to sign.

So if they can get 2nd or even a 3rd for him, and have some control over where he's going, it's likely worth it. Assuming they aren't willing or able to give him a multi-year extension.

Are you saying he doesn't want to be in GB because we won't be able to keep Rodgers? I doubt we'll tag and then try to trade him. That doesn't seem to happen very often. He'll become a FA and then go to some team that is ready, willing and most importantly able to pay him the big dollars he is seeking.

packerfanwayoutwest (2h) : it's part of building chemistry
packerfanwayoutwest (2h) : I know the OTA's are vouluntary, just seems like he would want to start seeing what the newbs are made of
Cheesey (3h) : The newbies need to learn the playbook first.
Zero2Cool (4h) : That doesn't happen until training camp. OTAs aren't like that. Which is probably why they're voluntary. That's my guess.
packerfanwayoutwest (5h) : doesn't he want the new WR to get on his bus?
Zero2Cool (5h) : Said something about the ramp up. No throwing. Throwing. No throwing and then training camp and throwing for months.
Zero2Cool (5h) : Rodgers said his arm never felt better during season than when he skipped OTAs in 2020.
civic (8h) : Load management? Maybe that’s why MLF is not too bothered?
civic (8h) : Do they want to use up a 38 year old arm when they are going to the super bowl?

bboystyle (21h) : Because its Voluntary?
packerfanwayoutwest (23h) : Why is #12 not at voluntary OTA's?

Zero2Cool (24-May) : Sammy Watkins not at OTA's. 9 year vet, but no Rodgers no sammy
