The bigger news is that this surprises anyone. Having lived through Bretts long bouts of indecisiveness for many years, I know that this is predictable behavior from someone whos a good guy but troubled by having to make decisions without a clear, apparent choice.

He would much rather have someone else, through his or her actions or words, make the decision for him.

Through all the drama about Brett over the past several years, I have never felt any sense of closure from him about playing football. He retired a year ago because he wanted the Packers to court, woo and recruit him to play another year, as they had in the past.

But he didnt get that affection from the team he felt he had put into the national consciousness.

Brett has an insecurity about him that is not logical for one of the most established players in the game. He knew how he got his job Don Majkowski was injured and how he could lose it in the blink of an eye.

Thus, his relationships with rising young backup quarterbacks were always at arms length. I saw this from afar in representing Matt Hasselbeck 10 years ago and up close in watching him and Aaron Rodgers for three seasons.

Having lived through Bretts long bouts of indecisiveness for many year

See, this is what I have said so many times. Blinded by the glare of media hype and Favre's well-cultivated "Aw, shucks" demeanor, fans deluded themselves into believing that somehow he had changed after overcoming his struggles with alcoholism and drug addiction. But the insiders knew all along it was just a smokescreen. Under the stresses of the past couple of years, his true nature has re-emerged. Deep inside of Brett Favre, one of the greatest QBs ever to tread the gridiron, lives a scared little boy. It's sad, really.

I think Brett -- when it's all said and done -- will be an interesting case study for sports psychologists. On one level he's been immensely successful. His longevity in the sport (for good or bad) is legendary. As are some of his records, his unorthodox-but-endearing style of play, and his persona.

But these last few years won't be kind to how he'll be remembered.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

I find this to be the most striking comment. It's exactly what I felt all along, but had never really heard someone privy to information come out and say it.

I truly think Brett loved all the end-of-career montages that every network played the last 2 games for the last 5 years when they thought "could this be brett's last game!?!"

He lives for all the "brett is so great for the game, he's a good 'ole boy" ego stroking crap from every network, sports pundit, and packer executive, so when he couldn't get that steroid shot to his ego from the packers he worked hard until he could find someone else to inflate his sense of self worth (which the Jets and now vikings have done a great job of...e.g. press conference with NY mayor, helicopter following on tues, etc.)

I think the reality of sitting at home, where NO ONE except Packer fans would care about him, was too much for him to take. He HAS to have the spotlight on him, and he's gonna grab every second of it he can.
I guess i don't blame him for it.
I just hope it doesn't end up costing him alot more then he thought it would.

I love how people claim they know what another man is thinking for certain.

Maybe he came back because he just really loves Football and like a lot of athletes can't find something to replace that feeling on Sundays. Michael Jordan still has trouble staying away from basketball. I said Favre was going to come back after he retired in 2008 because I felt he still had that itch and most people on this board chewed me out for it. Or maybe its he felt hurt about the Packers. Or who cares?

No one knows except for Favre.

What I don't understand is the frenetic need some people have to defend him, when he has shown himself less than worthy of such defense. He doesn't need the rest of us to defend him. Let him defend himself.

dfosterf (8-Apr) : Question of the week for me: Has anyone besides me done any deep dive into the potential of Alex McGough, our 3rd string qb?

beast (5-Apr) : The 25th pick in the draft has been an offensive player since 2017, 2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB, 1 OC

Mucky Tundra (4-Apr) : Gotta imagine that Green Bay vs Houston will be a primetime game this upcoming season
Zero2Cool (3-Apr) : No. Kill QB. No worries. 😁
Mucky Tundra (3-Apr) : Diggs, Collins, Dell and Schultz is gonna be tough to cover
Zero2Cool (3-Apr) : Stefon Diggs' trade will not be processed as a post-June 1 designation, so that is just over $31 million in dead cap this year.
Zero2Cool (3-Apr) : Bills trading WR Stefon Diggs to the Texans in exchange for a 2025 2nd-round pick. (via @rapsheet)
beast (3-Apr) : Using Patterson as RB and RB/WR tweener... so I think they also signed Patterson as a 3rd down RB, not just a kick returner as articles are
beast (3-Apr) : I think PFT missed the real Steelers/Patterson connection, Steelers new OC Arthur Smith has been Patterson's head coach the last 3 years
wpr (2-Apr) : It has Martha. I was stunned when I was in HS to learn Iowa was still playing half court BB in the 70's.
Martha Careful (2-Apr) : Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese...women's sports has come a long way. GREAT TO SEE!!

Mucky Tundra (28-Mar) : Yes
Zero2Cool (28-Mar) : No.
Mucky Tundra (28-Mar) : End of a Degu-era
dhazer (28-Mar) : Steelers sign Patterson because of new kickoff rule interesting
Zero2Cool (28-Mar) : Former #Packers TE Josiah Deguara is signing a 1-year deal with the Jaguars, per source.
Zero2Cool (28-Mar) : They do not do it for "content sake".
