By the way, Tramon's 7.7 yard average is about three quarters of the way down the list of NFL averages. (I looked them up by team to get more solid numbers.) So he is below average, but not bottom of the barrel.
I think that number is a fairly accurate reflection of his skills. I wish we had a better punt returner on the roster. But I think Tramon's ball security skills are a huge asset, and the fact that he at least has the potential to break a long one helps to keep the other teams honest, by forcing them to kick it higher and shorter or maybe toward the sidelines. With someone like Jordy Nelson back there, I think punters would be more likely to just boom it as far as they can down the middle, knowing that he is not much of a threat to make a big return.
