CHICAGO -- The Green Bay Packers hoped quarterback Aaron Rodgers' return would have a positive impact on Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears.

But this probably isn't what they had imagined.

Rodgers, in his first game since he broke his collarbone on Nov. 4, helped the Packers to a touchdown -- but not with his arm or his legs. Instead, he did it by telling receiver Jarrett Boykin to pick up a live ball and run it into the end zone after he was sacked in the second quarter by Julius Peppers.

Could weird play cost Bears postseason?

I'm gonna go ahead and say... YES!

CHICAGO -- The Green Bay Packers took a 10-7 lead over the Chicago Bears on Sunday at Soldier Field under a freakish set of circumstances. But ultimately, the play came as the result of failure by the home team to play heads-up football.

Yeah Troy and Joe kept saying he heard the coaches on the sidelines yelling. It was obvious he didn't start to run until Aaron Rodgers told him

To me it looked like Rodgers was unsure if the ball was alive or not.

To me it looked like Rodgers told Boykins to hold onto the ball, as Rodgers looked over to the refs to figure out what was going on, Boykins looked over to the sidelines and figured it out and took off slight before Rodgers figured it out.

Jarrett Boykin said:
I saw a defender run over to the ball so I thought I might as well run over there, too. He didn’t pick it up, so I picked it up, and A-Rod told me to go and I just went. He said, ‘Just go. Run, run.’ Somebody did. I think he was the closest one.

Boykin is just trying to give credit to Rodgers. That's not how it went down for reals.

I have been wondering if the QB communication had been turned back on thinking the play was over as well.

I was watching the side judge who didn't leave his spot which is what was my hint that the ball was still live. Good thing the Bears LBer missed when he tried to pick the ball up.

I think that the fact that the ball traveled forward made everyone (me included) think it was a forward pass.
I must admit, i was SHOCKED when the whistle wasn't blown and the call was upheld.

Had the Bears player (I don't remember for sure who it was) been aware, he could have scooped up the ball and probably scored on the play. But he gave a half hearted attempt to pick it up, and just let it roll on the ground. (Thankfully!)

It was Quarless that told him to run lol

Quote:
Tight end Andrew Quarless said he was talking with a Bears safety in the middle of the field, and the next thing they knew Boykin was in the end zone.

“He said, ‘What’s this?’ and I said, ‘I don’t know,’” Quarless said. “I was trying to figure it out myself.”

OOps guess not lol

I was surprised the whistle wasn't blown also. I am so accustomed to them blowing plays dead and not being able to correct them with replay. Like last week, the Fumble reviewed we got lucky because it was clear Tramon picked the ball up. Where the Steelers were screwed because they say possession was not reviewable on the blocked FG. If we are going to have replay they should be able to fix anything. And with Scoring plays, if the ball carrier gets tackled right at the Endzone, if the official calls TD it gets reviewed automatically, if they call it short it doesn't. Officials should call any place close a TD just to use the review.

Or get rid of it all together which I wouldn't mind.

I agree. Not only with the scoring but turnovers as well. William first interception that wasn't was ruled an interception and was reviewed and judged not. The second was ruled incomplete so the refs would not review and Mike McCarthy had to throw the flag. Basically it saved the Steelers from having to decide whether or not to challenge on the first one.

They should make everything reviewable and it should all be up to the coaches. Non of this automatic review by the booth on turnovers or scores. If a coach sees something no matter when it occurs he should be able to throw the flag. To keep them from throwing it on everything give them two like they do now and anything after that if the are wrong they get a 15 yards penalty or time run off or whatever.
